Potter (TV series)
Potter is a British sitcom created and written by Roy Clarke. The central character, Redvers Potter, is a meddlesome know-all who has recently retired from a long career running a breathmint confectionary. His best friend, Gerald, is a local vicar who offloads the vicarage's maintenance tasks onto his wife.
In this social satire, Redvers and Gerald are extraordinarily sexist men who are convinced that their wives (Aileen and Jane) are helpless and dependent. At the same time, they share an unspoken belief that hard work is for women, not for them. They have adopted Redvers' neighbour Tolly as their (unwilling) protégé. Tolly is an anxious man married to an overbearing wife, Diana.
BBC1 aired 20 episodes of Potter in three series, beginning on 1 March 1979. The final episode aired on 28 August 1983.
