The Kid
[edit]- I'd like to dedicate this to my father, Francis L. It's a song the girls in the band wrote, Lisa and Wendy.
- [using his voice through a puppet] You don't need those girls, or their stupid music, all you need is me. Man, I don't know. My life's a bitch.
Apollonia
[edit]- I'm gonna go join Morris's group.
- [singing] I'm a sex shooter, come and play with my affections
Dialogue
[edit]- [The Kid arrives home after a performance when he is about to enter the house peacefully]
- Francis L: [shouting] LISTEN TO ME!! You come home when I say come home! You've got no business in the streets!
- Mother: Just leave me alone!
- Francis L: COME HERE!!!
- Mother: No!
- Francis L: I SAID NOW!! DO YOU HEAR ME?!?!
- The Kid: [runs in the house] Mom! Dad!
- Francis L: You keep this place clean!
- The Kid: [intervenes] Please, Dad! She's heard you!
- Mother: He wants to kill me! He's crazy! Look what he's doing to me! [Francis L slaps The Kid, causing The Kid to fall through the door into another room on the floor]
- [The Revolution were in backstage preparing for a show]
- Wendy: Hi. I heard through the grapevine that you got a new tune written by a couple of great girls. Did you hear it?
- Lisa: I knew it. He didn't listen to it. He probably dropped it under his bike and rolled over it.
- Wendy: All right. You think about this. I'm gonna be totally honest with you. I think you're being full of shit.
- Lisa: Forget it, Wendy. Let's get out of here.
- Wendy: Every time we give you a song, you say you're gonna use it, but you never do. You think we're doing something behind your back. You're just being paranoid as usual.
- Lisa: Wendy.
- Wendy: Shut up, Lisa, please. You should know by now that we wouldn't hurt you. You should know by now that we wouldn't put a dark cloud over your head. It's just to make you feel good. You've felt this way with us before, remember?
- The Kid: [reciting] "The nominees for best actress are...."
- Lisa: Fuck it, Wendy. Let's break.
- The Kid: [uses his voice through a puppet] Why should he do your music? He's been getting along just fine without it. Next thing you know, you'll want to use his motorcycle.
- Wendy: You can really hurt people. Doesn't that mean anything to you? I mean, doesn't that make you feel like shit?
- Lisa: Come on.
- Wendy: I'm so tired of this. I'm really tired of it. [she and Lisa head to the stage]
- The Kid: You tired too?
- Matt: God got Wendy's periods reversed. About every 28 days, she starts acting nice. Lasts about a weekend.
- Bobby: What difference does it make, man? [opens the door as Matt and Mark exit the room] We're still a group, right?
- Apollonia: I'm gonna join Morris' group.
- The Kid: [concerned] What?
- Apollonia: I'm gonna join Morris' group. [The Kid furiously back-slaps Apollonia across the face]
- The Kid: [feeling regretful] Baby....
- Apollonia: Just leave me alone.
- The Kid: It's-- It's just.... I don't want you around this at all.
- Apollonia: I don't want you in my life this way!
- The Kid: Apollonia, don't I make you happy? Don't you like the way we are?
- Apollonia: I want to do it. You should trust me.
- The Kid: Do you know Morris? Do you know what he's about? He doesn't care about you!
- Apollonia: Are you jealous?! [leaves the house]
- [The Kid was listening to the music that Lisa and Wendy made on the tape when he hears noises that come from the next room]
- Francis L.: You do what l say! Do you hear me?! You do what l say! [throws a glass] You keep this place clean! You belong here and no place else! [he and Mother enter The Kid's room] You got no business leaving this house! You're always sneaking around! You're a goddamn sinner!
- Mother: Shut up! You don't care about me.
- Francis L.: Don't l keep the heat on?!
- Mother: I don't like it here! You never talk to me!
- The Kid: Dad, please!
- Francis L.: [raises his voice] What's the matter with this house?!
- Mother: You're crazy!
- Francis L.: SHUT UP!!! [slaps Mother across the face]
- The Kid: Dad! [shoves Francis L. against the wall by force]
- Mother: No! [brief pause] I'm just trapped here.
- Francis L.: You'll always have a roof overhead.
- Mother: [in tears] You don't let me have any fun.
- Francis L.: I could make you happy if you just believed in me. Yeah. If you just believed in me.
- Mother: You never....
- Francis L.: I would die for you. [leaves the room]
- [Apollonia and Morris were outside by First Avenue about to enter]
- Apollonia: What are we doing here, Morris?
- Morris: What do you mean?
- Apollonia: I don't wanna be here. I don't want to hurt anybody.
- Morris: It's not about hurting anybody. We open at The Taste tomorrow, don't we? This is business. We need the exposure. Anyway, you don't want to disappoint them, do you?
- Apollonia: Your horns are showing, Morris.
