Rell Kapolioka'ehukai Sunn (July 31, 1950 in Hawaii – January 2, 1998 in Makaha, Oahu, Hawaii) was an American world surfing champion. Known as "Queen of Makaha" and "Aunty Rell", she was a pioneer in the world of women's surfing.

About[edit]

  • I was smitten by her from the beginning, because where I lived in Kailua in those days, there were no girls that surfed. It intrigued me that I went to the Makaha contest and there was Rell and her sisters Kula and Valerie...it was mind-blowing just to see all those women surf.
