Sourced quotes[edit]

The two sourced quotations sound more like something Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury would have said than the 1st Earl. Can someone who has access to those sources check to see if the quotation comes from the 1st Earl or the 3rd Earl. 71.194.10.186 03:52, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct. Characteristicks of Men, Manners, Opinions, Times, is by the 3rd Earl, grandson of the 1st. The second quote, attributed by Millingen, is originally from "A Letter Concerning Enthusiasm" in Vol. I of the same work. I am moving these quotes to the correct author, and citing page numbers from the edition cited there. (Verified at GoogleBooks) ~ Ningauble 13:51, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
