Decontestualized quotation[edit]

Hi. I think that the quotation:

  • Utility alone is the cause of value.
    • Chapter VIII, Modern Economics, p. 400

should not be simply credited to Roll. It's a sentence taken from the following paragraph about Wieser and Bohm-Bawerk:

  • Wieser, and all the other Austrians after him, do not use a real-cost concept. Disutility and other sacrifices in the traditional English sense have no place in their theory. Utility alone is the cause of value. And if utility is conceived of in a purely formal sense, that is as relative preference inferred from observed acts of choice, disutility is merely an unnecessary duplication.
    • Chapter VIII, Modern Economics, p. 400

It's clearly not an Eric Roll's opinion, IMHO. It's an exposition of Austrian Economics. Maybe someone could add some more context. There's a NNPOV here. Thank you! --Ginosal 14:49, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Geez, I don't know what to say... It was a good quote in the book and I included it. Perhaps you could add a (See also:......) Other than that I don't know what to say...--Oracleofottawa 23:42, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
