If this page is meant to be a collection of hadith it should simply redirect to Muhammad, as all quotations of him by others are considered to be some level of hadith. The only purpose a seperate page for "Hadith" would properly serve is as a place where quotes by others about hadith, or collections of hadith could be gathered. ~ Kalki 06:09, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Someone has deleted all the hadiths that were on this page (which were all sourced and referenced to the appropriate book) and replaced them with statements about wife beating, martyrdom operations etc, which are not hadiths but excerpts from various speeches given by contemporary speakers. I don't know how to revert this page back to its original form, so I have deleted the quotes. Thanks..


Can someone verify the authority of the hadiths currently on the page as of 8-7-10?

It seems that several quotes are synthesis or taken out of context. The article need a clean up to comply with WQ:NPOV. Rupert Loup 08:49, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

Why were the articles Bukhari and Sahih Muslim merged into this article?[edit]

Why were the articles Bukhari and Sahih Muslim merged into this article? I don't understand the reason for this. They are quite long articles and should be separate articles as they were before. --დამოკიდებულება (talk) 23:17, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of quotes should not be "camouflaged" or without explanation[edit]

Deleting quotes without explanation even in the edit summary makes it harder to for everyone at wikiquote like here: [1] [2] even if it happened only by accident.

Even if other changes were made in the same edit, the deletions should still be marked in the edit summary and on the talkpage.

Deleted quotes below
  • Sahih Muslim (1:33) - "I have been commanded to fight against people so long as they do not declare that there is no god but Allah, and he who professed it was guaranteed the protection of his property and life on my behalf except for the right affairs rest with Allah.

This quote

  • Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "I have been sent with the shortest expressions bearing the widest meanings, and I have been made victorious with terror (cast in the hearts of the enemy), and while I was sleeping, the keys of the treasures of the world were brought to me and put in my hand." Abu Huraira added: Allah's Apostle has left the world and now you, people, are bringing out those treasures (i.e. the Prophet did not benefit by them).

was replaced with a different quote from [4], even though the deleted quote seems to be more widely quoted.

Quotes should never be removed without a comment in the edit summary, and should almost always be moved to the Talk page with a note that they were removed from the article, giving full reasoning.

A verse from Bukhari was replaced with a different but similar one.
The original version has almost 13,000 google hits. (see Google search: "I have been made victorious with terror" bukhari)
The replaced version has about 1,000 google hits. (see Google search: "I was made victorious with awe" bukhari)
And the first version is more poignant and eloquent.

Rupert loup, you deleted a quote claiming Unclear reference.
The reference was only unclear because you yourself deleted the reference the day before !

This is a large article that was moved without any discussion to the title Hadith. Such pages should not be moved without discussion and consensus.

In this case, on wikipedia we have a general article on Hadith and separate articles on Bukhari and so on. Why not follow the same organization on wikiquote?

This is one of a series of undiscussed page moves.

These should be stand alone articles, and not merged into a single article.

Muhammad Muhsin Khan[edit]

The article has a note on the translation by Muhammad Muhsin Khan. Is the note is implying that the translation is not reliable? If so, why is the translation used and not being replaced? Are there better translations of the Bukhari in English available? AFAIK, there are no complete "secular" translations of the Bukhari by secular academics into English, if that is what is meant, and one has to do with the best that is available. According to wikipedia it is the "first complete English translation of Sahih Al-Bukhari" [5] and it seems to be widely used in scholarly sources.
