Attributed quote[edit]

If someone can verify this in an unabridged edition, it may be worthy of inclusion:

  • “. . .To that question posed by Ecclesiastes three thousand years ago — Who can fathom the depths of the abyss? — only two men have the right to answer: Captain Nemo and I.” — Reader's Digest Condensed Version

(Found in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea article, which I am proposing to delete.) Cheers. ~ Ningauble 19:46, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Quotes mis-attributed[edit]

«These sentences, from an early translation of the book (Griffith and Farran, 1871), have no source in the original French text.» Then what is the point of including them here? - 21:35, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

It appears as a quotation of Verne in several quotation sites on the internet. The point of pointing out that it is a misattribution here is to inform people who search for it that it is a mistake. Unlike other quotation sites whose mission is to attract eyeballs to view advertisements, Wikiquote's mission is to inform an educate. ~ Ningauble (talk) 15:03, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
