Add topicThere is an error in this translation which significantly distorts Tucholsky's intended meaning. It should be:
- Retranslated: "For four years there were whole square miles of territory in which murder was obligatory, while a half hour away it was just as strongly forbidden. Did I say murder? Of course murder. Soldiers are murderers."
The error hinges on the translation of the adjective "ganze," which in this context cannot mean "several."
