The lead here was taken from the WP Miser article, which has since been modified. In the Talk page there, some of the suggested synonyms (eg tightwad and curmugeon) had already been objected to as inappropriate, as were many others more properly applied simply to those whose behaviour is mean. Applying the word 'miser' to those who are only mean, though it is common, is inaccurate. It has also sometimes been extended to compulsive hoarders - who are subject to a quite different personality disorder. The new lead in the WP article, which gives a tighter definition, has therefore been imported here. It is, besides, much more in accord with the quotations to which it is an introduction. Finally, the stuff in the old lead about old people and Social Services programmes was flagrant OR unsupported by references. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 09:32, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
