  • Amy, I think we need to go back and figure out how this all started, in order to figure out how to end it. In a word, you quoted the new New York Times story this morning about Russian tactical nuclear missiles and senior Russian military officials discussing this. The source described by The New York Times was “multiple U.S. officials.” Now, I dare say that the same “multiple U.S. officials” and some of the same authors of this piece that warned us seven times at the end of July in one article that there were sure to be weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
    I guess we have to say that The New York Times has lost its credibility on these issues, but more so, since they do — they back off the story themselves, saying Putin himself last week said, “There’s no need for us to use tactical nuclear missiles, and we never threatened to do so.” And Putin happens to be right on that. Last thing I’ll say here is that the notion that the Russians are desperate is erroneous. It’s contrived. The Russians aren’t losing.
