Template talk:Imdb title

This is a template to generate links to Internet Movie Database. This template should be used exclusively for TITLES; that is, movies, TV shows, and mini-series. If you need to link a person (actors, writers, directors, etc.), use Template:imdb name instead.

Instructions

1. Go to imdb.com and search for the title you want.
2. Click on the correct link to go to the movie or TV show's page. Be sure you're getting on the correct title page.
3. The page URL should look like http://www.imdb.com/title/tt#######, where "#######" indicates a number.
4. Copy ONLY that number. (Be sure to remove the "tt" and to keep all the zeros.)
5. Add to the article's External links section the text:

   {{imdb title|id=#######|title=Title}}

   where "#######" is the number you've copied, and "Title" is the title of the movie or show.

Example

1. Searching for "Beetle Juice", you'll get to this page:

   http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094721/.

2. Copy "0094721" and then write:

   {{imdb title|id=0094721|title=Beetle Juice}}

The result is:

Beetle Juice quotes at the Internet Movie Database

Note that, since this will almost certainly go into the External links section, you should add a * before the template text to include it as a list item.

better use IMDb's quotes page instead of its main page?

I tried to change the template to point to their /quotes page of the movie instead of to the main page of the movie, seems more appropriate for wikiquote? But perhaps it might confused people? I tried it and it seems to work nicely... Sams 00:11, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

That makes sense, but it might very well confuse people who expect to go to the main IMDb article, as they do for Wikipedia's IMDb links, as well as TV Tome and Rotten Tomatoes here and there. So I added "quotes" after the title to make the new target clear. — Jeff Q (talk) 03:19, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

Move request

Please move the page to "IMDb title" (M and D should be in caps) per enwikipedia (see w:Template:IMDb title) and the official IMDb website. Regards, Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 10:37, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
