From Wikiquote

Adventures of Tron, otherwise known as simply Adventures on GX-12, Tron or GX-12, is an American science fiction media franchise that began in 1982 involving films, video games, a comic series and a television series.

In the franchise, Tron-JA-307020 is an arcade game hero security program developed by user Dr. Alan T. Bradley to monitor communications between cyberspace and the real world.  After being captured by Master Control Program No. 751 (MCP-751) and forced to play on the Game Grid, he is freed by user Kevin Flynn and instructed by Alan to shut down the MCP.  Twenty-eight years later, Tron is injured after the program Clu 2.0 seizes total control over the Grid and serves as a mentor to the program Beck in inciting insurrection against Clu 2's new régime.  He is eventually captured by Clu 2 and repurposed to be his lead warrior Rinzler, but then, through strength of will, he remembers his previous identity and turns against Clu 2.
