The ATHIRAMPUZHA THEKKEDOM family can boast of a very ancient history which can be traced back to the times of St. Thomas in India. Once of a Brahmin Families of Palayoor by name Sankarapuri embraced christianity from St. Thomas the Apostle of Christ. This family later migrated to Kuravilangadu and settled in the south of St. Mary's (Marthamariam) Church and thereafter came to be known as "THEKKEDOM" family. Later on they came to Athirampuzha and settled there.According to legendary stories and songs, THEKKEDOM family was one among the 8 families that took initiative in constructing the famous Athirampuzha St. Mary's Church, which was consecrated on 15th August A. D. 835. Other families involved were Purayate Edam,Thadam,Vadakkedam, Mathan Kunnu, Mannarukunnu, Kalangola, and Thalasery. After several years the family members moved to differrent places,some adopting new familynames.
