Apologize[edit]

Hi DeirgeDel/Archive 0001, I tried very hard to address your criticism over at AN, but I have a problem on ENWQ when I use the reply-to tool, that changes what I write whenever I add text. I hope I am making sense? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:35, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Ottawahitech: I have had trouble with the reply tool on another Wiki and on an edit here on enWQ his morning my browser was "helpfully" coerced into making a double/triple repeat edit... (the workaround was to hit the cancel button). At the meeting WMF the other dudes were muttering about bugs in the vector skin and while this is not on vector here maybe some common stuff is changing.. Thankyou. -- DeirgeDel tac 16:23, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Your verbal attacks[edit]

DeirgeDel -Your verbal attacks are absurd, paranoid, hateful & revealing. You, Antudrus, HouseofCHange & Feiwren seem to be on the same team. It seems your are either consciously or unconsciously pushing a pov here. Let's Assume good faith- & make No personal attack please.
Some might view your input as you doing what you must to get a paycheck & great benefits. Is that true? Are you a pawn in the "Information dominance game of Command & control to keep the people dumbed down & obedient to a bunch of tyrants?
If so, can't you see that you/they are on the wrong side of history? That cheaters never win & that winners never cheat? :-D 184.4.82.218 15:31, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikiquote:Votes for deletion/Piet Emmer[edit]

I am not frustrated, but the reason why the page was nominated (because it did not have an English Wikipedia page) has been resolved, Emmer's page on the English Wikipedia has been approved, so the reason for the discussion has become invalid... Thus the discussion page and box can be removed... No? TheRoyalTrust (talk) 00:44, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Once again, please do not remove VFD tags. If you continue to disrupt the VFD process by removing the notice before the discussion has concluded then you will be blocked from editing Wikiquote. -- DeirgeDel tac 01:27, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
That is not an answer to my question. TheRoyalTrust (talk) 02:17, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@TheRoyalTrust@DeirgeDel Okay, okay, no need to argue, no arguing. I have solved it per clearly consensus to keep Since it should be ended in February but lagged till now. Problem solved Lemonaka (talk) 02:29, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry if i seem to be blunt, that was not my intention, thanks for the effort. TheRoyalTrust (talk) 04:47, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm really annoyed this argument was brought here. I had really hoped the edit summary at Special:Diff/3264255 would have meant TheRoyalTrust, who is an experienced enough editor, would have taken a discussion to a suitable independent board rather than harrassing me here. I have some complex RL issues that have come up today. @Lemonaka: Please be aware of your good faith comment "Okay, okay, no need to argue, no arguing" might be detrimental to my enWP UTRS appeal #70412. I admit I must look up the procedure for handing {{Vfd-new}} which I may not precisely have followed; though my intentions here were to avoid TRT from not being blocked. I think you know I've raised this as a case at Wikiquote:Administrators' noticeboard#Consequences of failure to do timely administration which hopefully will lead to changes in practice to avoid this sort of issue happening. Thankyou. -- DeirgeDel tac 08:55, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@DeirgeDel I have contacted El_C for your block on English Wikipedia, if this content dispute is complex and messy, I'd like to commit that I lack the competence of solving this . Lemonaka (talk) 11:24, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Lemonaka: I can see you've elected to take a wikibreak because of how you've chosen to become involved here and outcomes. I don't know what you've seen/done but its easily possible to get your head messed up trying to follow it. Plus you'd need to be aware of some stuff that is in restricted access tickets. If you want laugh then please find a way to get shot of the my image contribution to ja:ルアス and zh:都柏林轻轨 as the Chinese and Japanese are touristing to Dublin and getting fined as they think the LUAS is free! More seriously chill, and if I lose my UTRS appeal its not your fault so please don't be collateral damage - your're contributions and work is much needed here. But just come back when you feel sensibly enabled to. Thankyou. -- DeirgeDel tac 21:47, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@DeirgeDel Okay, here's my solution. If you have conflicts about the content in another project, please resolve the dispute in that project. Whether you are harassed, or banned, I'm not a cross-wiki admin, and even if I sympathized with you I wouldn't be able to fix the problems there. What I say here can only be responsible for this project, and I can not seek mediation for your cross-project conflicts.
As for the deletion issue here, yes, I admit that there has been a lot of backlogs, but the problem is that some topics obviously have no consensus, such as the first one. Until March of this year, still had no clear results, so the best way is to put it there for them to discuss, or to close the discussion? And for some VFDs, almost no one participated in the discussion, only the initiator voted to delete, what can we do to speed up the progress? After all, in most cases, one person is not a consensus。
Regards, Lemonaka (talk) 00:42, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Lemonaka: For the record in my opinion your're currently making a shedload of minor rookie sysop mistakes. For starters I now identify as DeirgeDel. I've laid off pointing that out as you are claiming you are on a Wikibreak yet still editing through it. I've respected that Wikibreak by not pinging you yet you are the one who has broken it. The VfD's do not need a massive contribution. If only the nominator has voted delete then after 7 days the community have accepted that, delete it. There's always deletion review. What is wrong is if an undiscussed PROD is not promptly restored at DRV or a reason given why not. OK I've now noticed w:en:Special:Diff/1144564149 so I thought you were recusing but now your not recusing cause you're pinging me here. And you have indicated you do not sympathise with me. Why not? I fundamentally do content. I fundamentally try to save stuff. I try my best to go for verificability and trying to avoid undue platforming of biased postions. I try to prevent vandalism. I spent an hour to day trying to work out if the're are one or three relevant "Gilbert Mercier" and which one's are notable and are they linked and which are relevant for a Wikidata item. And then there's death obsessions. Should I challenge the "last linges" articles that people keep showing here. Should I support it my applying appropriate support via Wikidata items? Anyway please either take a wikibreak and recuse or come off Wikibreak. Hope you sleep better than I do. -- DeirgeDel tac 01:24, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion noms[edit]

Thanks for nominating some pages that have issues for speedy deletion. One request: it is easier as an admin to quickly act on these if you do not delete the contents of the page, replacing it with the SD label. Rather than having to view the history of the page to see what was there, I could act right away to delete it of the contents remain. Thanks. ~ UDScott (talk) 18:53, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@UDScott: Its not your fault but delayed admin action has been an issue on my opinion. There also an issue of QLP and a history lookup shouldn't be that hard. But I'm not an admin. I'm smarting through alleged possible stalking events, one on Wiki and one RL nowt to do with WMF wikis. And a physical violence threat on this wiki that was poorly handled in my opinion. My reaction to those things in totallity will likely result in me being globally banned as has been suggested by my enWP blocker to a Wikiquote admin. I've moved back off of content creation here because the admin'ing seems to have been overwhelmed just recently. It's not your fault, your just short handed with difficult caseloads. I'd suggest you start salting some of this stuff to avoid being led round a mobius strip. -- DeirgeDel tac 19:12, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Not sure why the hostility - it's a simple request - just place the SD tag and leave the content as it is please. There's no reason to remove the content of the page unless there is somehow a copyright violation. Thanks for your help in this simple matter. ~ UDScott (talk) 19:15, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've been threatened with being tarred and feathered here. I am mentally stressed and therefore hostile. I apologise. I know I'm likely heading for a global ban and a move to the dark side. Not your fault. Anon's IP win win win OK really. -- DeirgeDel tac 19:23, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@UDScott: The frustration is why I've had to do the Speedie in the first place, why others have not spotted it. I've held off wikidata sitelinking while hopefully Mike Peel can get his bot going but the "problem list" was beginning to grow and there's few complex cases that are best dealt with soon after creation rather than later, at least in my opinion. In general the smaller this list is the better, and the further its about 30 the harder it is to spot older items becoming de-sitelinked. -- DeirgeDel tac 21:48, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

About Don Juravin - a page that was nominated for deletion and now was deleted[edit]

Hello! I would like to ask you about a WikiQ page "Don Juravin" that was nominated for deletion because of not citing sources which are independent. I agree with the fact that the page didn't have any sources which were independent in the first stage, but after nominating it for deletion, I read the policies and terms of WikiQ and how to edit one page. As a contributor, with not much experience, I changed all the sources and re-constructed the whole page to follow the guidelines. I want to ask you, why the page was deleted even though everything was changed according to the instructions of the contributors? Can the page be re-instated and how that can be done? I am certain that if a page follows the guidelines of WikiQ shouldn't be deleted. Thank you! Mr.Durnbey (talk) 21:16, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Mr.Durnbey:: Procedure is to ask discussion closer for any details, and if not satisfied a WQ:DRV could be raised. That said I note possible (note possible) indicators of w:en:Meatpuppetry/canvasing during the discussion and I also note the sources provided would not likely pass W:en:RS on the English Wikipedia. In all events in these circumstances I advised creating an article on the English Wikipedia first which will almost certainly permit notability here. Do you have any particular reason for concentrating on this subject who does not have an article on the English Wikipedia, rather than choosing a subject that does. Thankyou. -- DeirgeDel tac 21:35, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Talking here[edit]

I'm answering both of your questions.

For English Wikipedia, Philip Cross is an extended confirmed user, protection will not hinder them for appealing blocks in further. For English Wikiquote, I seldom protected talk pages, except for user talk pages. Since we need a place for IP users to discuss about the article (though the chance is nearly impossible). Lemonaka (talk) 21:28, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Lemonaka:: I'm not disagreeing with you about your reasoning for IP users on talk pages on Wikiquote. But I am not seeing the need for that on the English Wikipedia for Philip Cross's talk page on the English Wikipedia unless I'm missing something or there been some massive suppression. I regret thanking you this for this good faith edit simply because I seen it as very good faith but when I cam to look at the level of vandalism on w:en:User talk:Philip Cross it looked containable as far as I could tell. However if you read the totality of that page it has implications for specific articles that need to be reviewed here. You may note that my alt. account Djm-leighpark challenged one of those article with an {{NPOV}} - and I noticed the issue before discovering the editor was Philip Cross and before I was aware he was arbcom restricted from enWP. I am aware he has even been discussed in national newspapers in the UK previously. As I sitelink most of his new articles I keep a soft little eye on him. As I do a couple of other contributors at times who can hit controversial areas. By the way I per m:User:Lemonaka I have concerns you may not be in a good condition to be carrying out admin duties. If you are fully recovered please update that health issues message. As there is some tricky stuff going on at the moment, and you are not root cause of the problems and I'd wish to minomise your stress. Thankyou. -- DeirgeDel tac 22:19, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

SpongeBob[edit]

Hi, @DeirgeDel. You tagged SpongeBob SquarePants Presents: The Tidal Zone and SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge as repeated creations of deleted page, but sadly I cannot find the origin deleted page, after a rough check of deletion logs, they are no such pages. Can you elaborate them for me? Lemonaka (talk) 02:20, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Lemonaka: If that is the case I apologise. Wikiquote has been fairly overwhelmed with new articles particularly from two WMF campaigns, Africa Day & Women in Education, and interspersed has been the usual set of hoaxes. At least in the case of Tidal Zone I couldn't see it on the reference English Wikipedia article but I can't check the other one. Handling the many article misspells has been pretty difficult as well as when I've speedied the redirect after the move they were neither declined or accepted then just ended up fogging an already complex space of new articles .... so I've simply returned them to redirects. I'm actually very keen not to present admin's with speedies as the English Wikiquote lost an incredibly productive sysop with a significant cause being fed inappropriate CSD's and being caught out by them (trouted by yours truly). Unfortuantely while I trouted them I was not aware of the ArbCom and would have spoke in their defence. Back to these pair as there's some doubt I'll review them and possible VfD for a community decision. Thankyou. -- DeirgeDel tac 04:51, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've VfD'd one of the articles, SpongeBob SquarePants Presents: The Tidal Zone; but totally admit SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge links to a wikipedia article and should not have been speedied. I may have been reckless attempted to triage between sock-creations and misspelt articles by newbies with much work needed to bring them into shape. Thankyou for pointing this out. -- DeirgeDel tac 08:01, 10 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Chris Lace[edit]

Hi, I'm sorry, but I didn't understand why this page is a spam? It may be something unreferenced or unmemorable, but what did it promote? I've changed that to PROD. Lemonaka (talk) 08:18, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

SPA with an unreferenced Wikidata item to suit by another SPA possible a sock. Socks are winners. I apologise if you don't think its a Speedy but I'm not 100% comfortable with a PROD so I'll make sure it goes through a deletion discussion. thankyou. -- DeirgeDel tac 08:53, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, let's wait for some time and everything will show up. Lemonaka (talk) 09:27, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I know that on 25 November 2021 I made the in appropriate generic suggestion that a subject should run round the block naked which raised a laugh but eventually getting me banned from a wikipedia sight. Because my brain goes through all thoughts of weird cross-connections, and my mind is still imprinted with an image of Quote of the day from the 13th, this might translate to a waiting for some time for everything to show up to mean waiting for a performer to perform naked on stage in an attempt to get an RS. More seriously I have to go for a 39/700 to the secret bus stop for some begonia activity some afternoon let alone finish that VfD I've started! Focus Deirge Focus! (and not on that image!) -- DeirgeDel tac 09:49, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Help![edit]

Hello@DeirgeDel thank you for good work in the wikiquote space. Your observations are well noted in the pages i have created and i would love to make corrections and be better. I tried adding categories to Adij Bousso Dieng, A page i just created but every attempt on adding a category comes out in redlink. I'm asking for your help on how to get the right categories to use.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards. Evaristus07 (talk) 09:42, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thankyou for asking. I'll do my best to help. It doesn't help that categories do not show on preview and you only realise you have a redlink after its published. It helps that I'm color defective, do not spot the red quite as easily as others, and go off and leave others to fix my redlink. I'm going to jot down a couple of bullet points.
  • Categories do not forgive any mispelling.
  • One trick is to look at another Wikiquote article of a person who is similar, for example another person from Senegal ... (there are not that many!)
  • Remember categories are a tree.
  • Probably the best advice is to add the cat-a-lot gadget:
  1. Click your preferences option (probably a menu option on the top of the screen but this can change on the newer "skin" interfaces on other wikis and on the mobile interface). But preferences will be there somewhere.
  2. Press Gedget to get the Gadget's tab.
  3. Select the Hot Cat Gadget.
  4. Press the big blue Save button towards the bottom of the page
  • Note that when I link to categories here I must but a colon (:) on the front but when they are being used on the live page they should not have the ":".

As usual I apologise for getting distracted, losing my train of thought .. etc. -- DeirgeDel tac 11:30, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

By the way when you tried to add Category:People from Sengal I think you had a typo. If you had put Category:People from Senegal (without the leading ":") you would likely have been successful. So you were almost right! -- DeirgeDel tac 11:34, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

About signing posts[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you post messages on talkpages and Wikiquote pages, as you did on Wikiquote:Votes for deletion/DJ iSizzle, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ("~~~~") at the end of your message. You may also click on the signature button which is above the edit window. This will put a signature containing your user name or IP address and the time you posted the message. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. Lemonaka (talk) 11:47, 18 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Lemonaka:: Thankyou for pointing that out; being about the 20th person to do so, so I kind of do so. I usually use 4 tidles but occasionally forget or do 3 or 5. I'm aware of the signature button albeit rarely use it. I, and I guess most people, will make the signature mistake from time to time. So pragamtically I will have a % of missed signatures, as will most people. I think I'm correct in saying that this reply will auto-add a signature, its certainly showing that on the preview, so the template you are using possibly is factually incorrect but I'm currently more concerned with a vulnerable relative who's mobile phone has stopped charging and ensuring the care company checks his wrist band alarm is working so if he has a fall and is conscious he has a means of summoning help. I've also been playing with the vector skin on wikiquote this morning to see if I can see a citation tool on this wiki and that may be throwing me a little. Normally I just use the {{unsigned}} in these circumstances and if I get a {{unsigned}} I usually acknowledge with simple thank. It avoids a talk page message and in this case possibly hijacks an earlier section thread where I was trying to help @Evaristus07: a little. Thankyou. DeirgeDel tac 12:09, 18 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Want to have a tool of auto signing? Have a try of Commons:User:Jack_who_built_the_house/Convenient_Discussions. This gadget will make you never miss a sign. I seldom use unsigned since this template is a little bit hard to use. You need to find out who and when someone post something on somewhere. Lemonaka (talk) 12:29, 18 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Lemonaka:: As a rule of thumb I try not to customise and stick to standard. I guess I'm a little too used to trailing back who did what. I'm also fairly sure {{unsigned}} is different between enWP and enWQ. What I do notice is you marked your last post here as minor when if I understand correctly it isn't. I guess we'll (or at least I) will bumble along making the same old mistakes from time to time. -- DeirgeDel tac 12:52, 18 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
