Halo is a series of first-person shooter video games available for the PC and Xbox family of consoles. The first, Halo: Combat Evolved, was released November 14, 2001 in the United States and the sequel, Halo 2, was released in November 9, 2004. The series also includes multiple novels and comics released since 2001. Halo 3, the third in the series, was released on September 25th, 2007, and quickly became one of the fastest selling video games ever. Halo: Reach, a prequel to the original trilogy, was released in 2010 as the last Halo game developed by Bungie, as later Halo games are developed by 343 Industries. The first 343i-developed Halo game, Halo 4, was released in November 2012, and was followed by a sequel, Halo 5: Guardians, which was released for the Xbox One on October 27, 2015.

The games depict the last survivor of a group of supersoldiers inside of a powered exoskeleton in an interstellar war between human space marines and the technologically superior devoutly religious collective of alien species engaged in religious war against them, often set on one of the series of mysterious astronomically engineered megastructures for which the series is named.

Master Chief John-117[edit]

  • "A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him."
  • "You are the last of your kind: bred for combat, built for war. You're the master of any weapon, pilot of any vehicle, and fear no enemy."

Halo: Combat Evolved[edit]

[From the introductive movie of the level The Pillar of Autumn on various difficulties]
Sergeant Avery Junior Johnson:[Easy] Men...keep your eyes down range, fingers on your triggers, and we all go home in one piece. [turns around] Am I right, Marines!?
Sergeant Johnson: [Normal] Once again, it is our job to finish what the flyboys started. We are leaving this ship, platoon, and engaging the Covenant on solid ground. When we meet the enemy, we will rip their skulls from their spines, and toss 'em away, laughin'! [turns around] Am I right, Marines!?
Sergeant Johnson: [Heroic] Men, here is where we show those split-chin squid-head sons-of-bitches that they could not have picked a worse enemy than the human race! We are going to blow the hell out of those dumb bugs, until we don't have anything left to shoot 'em with! And then we are going to strangle them with their own-living-guts! [turns around] Am I right, Marines!?
Sergeant Johnson: [Legendary] Men, we led those dumb bugs out to the middle of nowhere to keep 'em from gettin' their filthy claws on Earth. But, we stumbled onto somethin' they're so hot for, that they're scramblin' over each other to get it. Well, I don't care if it's God's own anti-son-of-a-bitch machine, or a giant hula hoop, we're not gonna let 'em have it! What we will let 'em have is a belly full of lead, and a pool of their own blood to drown in! [turns around] Am I right, Marines!?
Marines: SIR, YES SIR!
Sergeant Johnson: Mmmhmm. Damn right, I am. Now move it out! Double time! [Marines rush off to meet incoming Covenant boarders] All you green horns who wanted to see Covenant up close, this is gonna be your lucky day!

Cortana: A dozen Covenant superior battleships against a single Halcyon-class cruiser. With those odds, I'm content with three…make that four kills. [to the Master Chief] Sleep well?
Master Chief: No thanks to your driving, yes.
Cortana: So you did miss me.

[When the Master Chief's shields fail for the first time in the game]
Cortana: Keep your head down! There's two of us in here now, remember?

[From the first Terminal]
343 Guilty Spark: Greetings, humans, and welcome to Installation 04! Ignore prior warnings, and please continue. I have disabled defensive systems to allow your approach, but you must not exit your ship once you have arrived at the designated landing center. This ring contains significant dangers, and even with your assumed legacy, I must verify the presence and pitch of your geas before allowing full access. We have much to discuss, humans. I have been away far too long. You have been away far too long.

Cortana: Now would be a VERY good time to leave!

[From the second Terminal]
343 Guilty Spark: [voiceover] The history of all Forerunners was now lost to us. We relied upon the permanence of the Domain to preserve our record of the events that led to this point. But without that record, would future civilizations know anything about us? Or only of our weapons? My fellow Monitor, 049 Abject Testament, had only one comment on this before we went our separate ways.
049 Abject Testament: We deserve to be forgotten.
343 Guilty Spark: Perhaps...perhaps.

[The Chief and Cortana are on an escape pod hurtling toward Halo's surface]
Cortana: Sure you wouldn't rather take a seat?
Master Chief: We'll be fine.

[After being stuck with a plasma grenade]
Grunt: Can't! Run! With! Thing! On! Back!

Generic Marine: My God, those things are even uglier when they're dead!

[Repeated line]
343 Guilty Spark: Hmmmmhmm... I am a genius.

[From the ending cinematic of the level Assault on the Control Room]
Cortana: This ring isn't a cudgel, you barbarian! It's something else...something much more important...The Covenant were right! This ring, it's Forerunner. Give me a second to access... yes, the Forerunners built this palace, what they called a, "fortress world," in order to... no... no, that can't be. Oh, those Covenant fools! They must've known, there must have been signs!
Master Chief: Slow down, you're losin' me!
Cortana: The Covenant...found something...buried beneath the ring...something horrible...and now, they're afraid.
Master Chief: Something buried? What-?
Cortana: The captain! We've got to stop the captain!
Master Chief: Keyes?? But-?
Cortana: The weapons cache he's looking for, it's not really-we can't let him get inside!
Master Chief: I don't understa-
Cortana: There's no time! Get out of here! Find Keyes, stop him! Before it's too late!
[The Master Chief rushes out of the Control Room to go after Keyes]

[A section of recorded footage from Pvt. Jenkins' helmet. A group of Marines are riding in a Pelican]
Private Bisenti: [About the loud music Johnson is playing in the troop bay] Why do we have to listen to this old stuff, Sarge?
Sergeant Johnson: Watch your mouth, son. This "stuff" is your history. It should remind you grunts of what we're fightin' to protect!
Private Bisenti: Hey, if the Covenant want to wipe out this particular part of my history...that's fine by me.
Marine: Yeah, better it than us!
Sergeant Johnson: You ask 'em real nice next time you see 'em, Bisenti...I'm sure they'll be happy to oblige.
Female Pelican Pilot: LZ looks clear; I'm bringing us down.
[The Pelican descends to the jungle floor]
Sergeant Johnson: Go, go go!
[The Marines rapidly exit the Pelican and the section of footage ends]

Sergeant Johnson: I would have been your daddy, but the dog beat me over the fence!

[At the beginning of the level Two Betrayals, when the Master Chief's attempt to activate Halo at the direction of 343 Guilty Spark fails mysteriously]
343 Guilty Spark: Odd. That wasn't supposed to happen. [Cortana appears]
Cortana: Oh, really?
Master Chief: Cortana!
Cortana: I spent the last 12 hours cooped up in here, watching you toady about helping that thing get set to slit our throats.
Master Chief: Hold on now, he's a friend.
Cortana: Oh, I didn't realize! He's your pal, is he? Your chum? Do you have any idea what that bastard almost made you do!?
Master Chief: Yes, activate Halo's defenses and destroy the Flood, which is why we brought the Index to the control center.
Cortana: [holding the Index the Master Chief just placed in the core] You mean this?
343 Guilty Spark: A construct? In the core? That is absolutely unacceptable!
Cortana: Sod off!
343 Guilty Spark: What impertinence- I shall purge you at once!
Cortana: You sure that's a good idea?
343 Guilty Spark: How- How- How dare you! I'll-
Cortana: Do what!? I have the Index. You can just float and sputter!
Master Chief: Enough! The Flood is spreading. If we activate Halo's defenses, we can wipe them out.
Cortana: You have no idea how this ring works, do you? Why the Forunners built it? Halo doesn't kill Flood, it kills their food. Humans, Covenant, whatever! We are all equally edible. The only way to stop the Flood is to starve them to death, and that's exactly what Halo is designed to do, wipe the galaxy clean of all sentient life! You don't believe me? Ask him!
Master Chief: [turns to Guilty Spark] Is it true?
343 Guilty Spark: ...More or less. Technically, this installation's pulse has a maximum effective radius of 25,000 light-years, but once the others follow suit, this galaxy will be quite devoid of life, or at least any life with sufficient biomass to sustain the Flood. But, you already knew that. I mean, how couldn't you?
Cortana: Left out that little detail, did he?
343 Guilty Spark: We have followed outbreak containment procedure to the letter. You were with me each step of the way as we managed this crisis.
Cortana: Chief, I'm picking up movement.
343 Guilty Spark: Why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?
Cortana: We need to go, right now!
343 Guilty Spark: [as the Chief puts Cortana back into his helmet and Sentinels appear around him] Last time, you asked me, if it were my choice, would I do it? Having had considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed. There is no choice. We must activate the ring.
Cortana: Get...us...out...of here.
343 Guilty Spark: If you are unwilling to help, I will simply find another. Still, I must have the Index. Give your construct to me, or I will be forced to take it from you.
Master Chief: That's not going to happen.
343 Guilty Spark: So be it. [to the Sentinels] Save his head; dispose of the rest.
[Guilty Spark teleports out of the room and the Sentinels attack]

[Early on in the level Keyes]
Captain Keyes: [over the radio] Chief...don't be a fool...leave me.
Cortana: [frantic] Captain? Captain?! I've lost him.

[From the ninth Terminal, Keyes being assimilated by the Proto-Gravemind]]
Gravemind: No more, what you were. Memories... Emotions... All is now ours.
Keyes: [defiantly] Keyes, Jacob. Captain. Service number 01928-19912-JK! You will not! Have! Me!
Gravemind: ...we already do.

[At the beginning of the level The Maw, the Master Chief is flying a Banshee towards one of the Pillar of Autumn's empty lifepod airlocks]
Cortana: This thing is falling apart!
Master Chief: It'll hold.
Cortana: We're not going to make it!
Master Chief: We'll make it.
Cortana: Pull up! Pull up!
[The Banshee suddenly dips and crashes into the wreck of the Pillar of Autumn]
Cortana: [sardonic] You did that on purpose, didn't you?
[the Master Chief appears intact]

[From the final Terminal]
343 Guilty Spark: I shall renew efforts to make contact with the others rings immediately. This "Covenant" may be useful to me, although I don't think they fully understand what they claim to seek. Still, it makes no difference to me what they believe, as long as they do what must be done. Hmmm... I sound like her! But what I would not give to have earned a single company of Prometheans here right now. They would most certainly restore order with their trademark lethality, although...that would mean he would have to be here, too. And without the Librarian around to temper his rage, well... These Reclaimers might almost prefer the Flood.

[Looking around the Pillar of Autumn's ruined bridge, just before activating the Autumn's self-destruct sequence]
Cortana: I leave home for a few days, and look what happens. This won't take long.

[Ending scene of the game, after the Master Chief has destroyed Halo and fled in a Longsword fighter]
Master Chief: Did anyone else make it?
Cortana: Scanning...just dust and echoes. We're all that's left...We did what we had to do - for Earth. An entire Covenant armada obliterated, and the Flood...We had no choice. Halo, it's finished.
Master Chief: No, I think we're just getting started.
[The Master Chief removes his helmet as the camera backs out of the Longsword and turns to look at the stars]

Halo 2[edit]

  • I need a nurse! No...no! A female nurse.
  • [If the Chief stares at a Marine for a while] Hey, maybe we should hold hands.
  • Hey, if I get shot, be sure to give me lots of drugs.
  • Yeah, I crapped myself. So what?
  • [Random line] This one time, I threw my lunch instead of a grenade. True story.
  • [Upon spotting some Grunts] Hey, hey, let's catch one and ride it!

[Opening cinematic - Anniversary only, Spartan Locke encounters Thel 'Vadam.]
Sword of Sanghelios: I do not trust you. He may... but I do not.
Locke: Noted.
Thel 'Vadam: My friend's trust is not the issue today, Spartan Locke. It is my trust you must earn.
Locke: Arbiter.
Thel 'Vadam: You are a hunter, yes? A seeker of things.
Locke: That's not the official job title. But it's close enough.
Thel 'Vadam: And now you hunt other Spartans?
Locke: I'm not so much hunting a Spartan as I am hunting the Spartan.
Thel 'Vadam: You seek...
Locke: One-one-seven.
Thel 'Vadam: I was not told the identity of your prey.
Locke: That is why I'm sharing it with you now. We are talking about trust, after all. May I ask you something? Your people used to call him "Demon". Was that an insult or a compliment?
Thel 'Vadam: An insult to be sure. But one with a modicum of respect. He was indeed my enemy. But in time, I named him ally, even friend. The events which forged this bond were... complicated.

[Opening cinematic - the Covenant holy city High Charity in orbit around the planet Threshold, near the destroyed remnants of the first Halo ring. Inside, Thel 'Vadamee, Supreme Commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice, is on trial before the Hierarchs - the Prophets of Truth, Mercy, and Regret, the latter in hologram form - and the High Council of the Covenant.]
Thel 'Vadamee: There was only one ship.
Prophet of Truth: One? Are you sure?
Thel 'Vadamee: Yes. They called it the Pillar of Autumn.
[The Council clamors at this news.]
Prophet of Mercy: Why was it not destroyed with the rest of their fleet?
Thel 'Vadamee: It fled as we set fire to their planet, but I followed with all the ships at my command. [flashback of the Autumn escaping Reach, the Covenant in pursuit, until arriving at Halo]
Prophet of Regret: When you first saw Halo, were you blinded by its majesty?
Thel 'Vadamee: Blinded?
Prophet of Regret: Paralyzed? Dumbstruck?
Thel 'Vadamee: No!
Prophet of Regret: Yet the humans were able to evade your ships, land on the sacred ring, and desecrate it with their filthy footsteps!
Thel 'Vadamee: Noble Hierarchs, surely you understand that once the parasite attacked... [he is interrupted by resounding jeers from the members of the Council]
Prophet of Mercy: There will be order in this Council! [the Council quiets]
Prophet of Truth: You were right to focus your attention on the Flood. But this Demon, this "Master Chief"...
Thel 'Vadamee: By the time I learned the Demon's intent, there was nothing I could do. [flashback to the detonation of the Autumn, which destroyed Halo]
[The Council continues to clamor, some calling Thel 'Vadamee a traitor. Tartarus, the Chieftain of the Brutes, looks satisfied with the popular mood.]
Prophet of Regret: [aside, to Truth] Noble Prophet of Truth, this has gone on long enough. Make an example of this bungler! The Council demands it!
Prophet of Truth: You are one of our most treasured instruments. Long have you led your fleet with honor and distinction. But your inability to safeguard Halo was a colossal failure.
Prophet of Objection: Nay! It was heresy!
Thel 'Vadamee: I will continue my campaign against the humans!
Prophet of Truth: No! You will not. [gestures to Tartarus, who signals his Brutes to take Thel 'Vadamee into custody] Soon the Great Journey shall begin, but when it does, the weight of your heresy will stay your feet, and you shall be left behind.

[At the beginning of the level Cairo Station, at a ceremony wherein several UNSC personnel are to be decorated. Robot cameras are hovering around, and while Johnson is in white dress uniform, the Master Chief is still wearing his armor]
Master Chief: You told me there wouldn't be any cameras.
Sergeant Johnson: And you told me you were going to wear something nice! Folks need heroes, Chief. To give 'em hope. So smile, wouldja? While we still got somethin' to smile about!

Cortana: You look nice.
Master Chief: Thanks.
Sergeant Johnson (simultaneously): Thank you.
[The Chief and Johnson stare at each other.]

[Thel 'Vadamee is about to receive the Mark of Shame]
Tartarus: You've drawn quite a crowd.
Thel 'Vadamee: If they came to hear me beg, they will be disappointed.
Tartarus: Are you sure?

Lord Hood: Master Chief, defend this station!
Master Chief: Yes, sir. (to Johnson) I need a weapon.
Sergeant Johnson: Right this way.

Cortana: Bet you can't stick it.
Master Chief: You're on.

Master Chief: Sir, permission to leave the station?
Lord Hood: What for Master Chief?
Master Chief: To give the Covenant back their bomb.
Lord Hood: [pause] Permission granted.

[The Master Chief prepares to blow up a Covenant ship with their own bomb]
Cortana: I know what you're thinking, and it's crazy.
Master Chief: So, stay here.
Cortana: Unfortunately for us both…I like crazy.

Cortana: Just one question: what if you miss?
Master Chief: I won't.

[The Master Chief lands on the In Amber Clad with a thud]
Sergeant Johnson: For a brick, he flew pretty good!

[Opening of the level Outskirts]
Cortana: The message just repeats: Regret, Regret, Regret.
Commander Miranda Keyes: Catchy. Any idea what it means?
Sergeant Johnson: "Dear humanity. We regret being alien bastards. We regret coming to Earth. And we most definitely regret the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!"
Marines: OO-RAH!
Cortana: Regret is a name, Sergeant. The name of one of the Covenant's religious leaders; a Prophet. He's on that carrier, and he's calling for help.
Marine Scout: Immediate, grid kilo-two three is hot. Recommend mission abort.
Pilot: Roger, recon. It's your call, Sarge.
Sergeant Johnson: We're going in! Get tactical, Marines!
Lord Hood: Master Chief, get aboard that carrier, secure the Prophet of Regret. This is the only place on Earth the Covenant decided to land. That prophet is going to tell us why.
Pilot: Thirty seconds out. Standby to - whoa!
[A Scarab appears, then blows up a Pelican and forces another one to crash.]

Sergeant Johnson: Don't they teach you kids how to swear in basic anymore?

Sergeant Johnson: Where's the rest of your platoon?
Female Marine: Wasted, Sarge.
Marine #1: And we will be, too, sir, if we don't get the hell outta here!
Sergeant Johnson:[Puts a hand on Marine's shoulder] You hit, Marine?
Marine #1: N-no, Sir.
Sergeant Johnson: Then listen up!
Sergeant Johnson: [Easy] You had your chance to be afraid before you joined my beloved Corps. But to guide you back to the true path, I brought this motivational device. Our big green style cannot be defeated!
Sergeant Johnson: [Normal] The Chief is gonna jump in this tank, roll across the bridge, and blow up any inhuman-son-of-a-bitch dumb enough to get between him and the Prophet of Regret! Pull yourself together, because you're going with him!
Sergeant Johnson: [Heroic] When I joined the Corps, we didn't have any fancy-shmancy tanks. We had sticks! Two sticks, and a rock for the whole platoon - and we had to share the rock! Buck up, boy, you're one very lucky Marine!
Sergeant Johnson: [Legendary] Usually the good Lord works in mysterious ways, but not today. This here is 66 tons of straight-up, HE-spewing, dee-vine intervention. If God is love, then you can call me Cupid!
Marine: What about that Scarab?
Sergeant Johnson: We've all run the simulations. They're tough but they ain’t invincible. Stick with the Master Chief, he’ll know what to do.
Marine: Yes sir, Sergeant!
Cortana: Thanks for the tank. He [Master Chief] never gets me anything.
[Sergeant Johnson boards the Pelican and pulls charging lever on gun turret]
Sergeant Johnson: Oh, I know what the ladies like!
[Following this cut scene is the next level, called "Metropolis" the first section is entitled Ladies Like Superior Firepower, in reference to Sergeant Johnson's comment. At lesser difficulty settings, the section is called Ladies Like Armor Plating" or "Ladies Like Grinding Treads]

Marine: See this look? It's terror!
Staff Sergeant Banks: Marine, did I give you permission to bitch?

Staff Sergeant Banks: [after a Covenant Scarab has smashed through part of the city] This thing's really starting to piss me off!

[The disgraced Thel 'Vadamee, branded with the Mark of Shame, is being dragged by two Brutes through the halls of High Charity, with Tartarus in the lead.]
Brute #1: How much further must we heft this baggage? Any cell will do!
Brute #2: Why not toss him in with this lot? [indicates a cell with a pack of ravenous Jackals] They could use the meat.
Brute #1: Them? What about us? My belly aches... and his flesh is seared, just the way I like it!
Tartarus: Quiet! You two whimper like Grunts fresh off the teat! He's not meant for the jails. The Hierarchs have something special in mind.
[Tartarus opens the door to a gravity lift, which takes them down into the city; the Brutes carry their prisoner past a line of Elite Honor Guards to a grand chamber where Truth and Mercy await, and goes on one knee.]
Tartarus: Noble Prophets of Truth and Mercy, I have brought the incompetent.
Prophet of Truth: You may leave, Tartarus.
Tartarus: [confused] But... I thought...
Prophet of Truth: And take your Brutes with you.
Tartarus: [to his Brutes] Release the prisoner. [the Brutes release Thel 'Vadamee, then leave]
Prophet of Truth: The Council decided to have you hung by your entrails, and your corpse paraded through the city. But ultimately, the terms of your execution are up to me.
Thel 'Vadamee: I am already dead.
Prophet of Truth: Indeed. Do you know where we are?
Thel 'Vadamee: The Mausoleum of the Arbiter.
Prophet of Truth: Quite so. Here rests the vanguard of the Great Journey. Every Arbiter from first to last, each one created and consumed in times of extraordinary crisis.
Prophet of Mercy: The Taming of the Hunters, the Grunt Rebellion - were it not for the Arbiters, the Covenant would have broken long ago!
Thel 'Vadamee: Even on my knees, I do not belong in their presence.
Prophet of Truth: Halo's destruction was your error, and you rightly bear the blame. But the Council was... overzealous. We know you are no heretic. This is the true face of heresy. [activates a holoprojection of the renegade Elite, Sesa 'Refumee] One who would subvert our faith, and incite rebellion against the High Council. [plays the recorded message]
Sesa 'Refumee: Our Prophets are false! Open your eyes, my brothers! They would use the faith of our forefathers to bring ruin to us all! The Great Journey is a -- [Truth stops the recording]
Prophet of Truth: This heretic, and those who follow him, must be silenced.
Prophet of Mercy: Their slander offends all who walk the path!
Thel 'Vadamee: What use am I? I can no longer command ships, lead troops into battle...
Prophet of Truth: Not as you are, no. But, become the Arbiter... and you shall be set loose against this heresy with our blessing. [the vault opens to reveal the armor of the Arbiter]
Thel 'Vadamee: What of the Council?
Prophet of Mercy: The tasks you must undertake as the Arbiter are perilous, suicidal. You will die, as each Arbiter has before you. The Council will have their corpse.
[Thel 'Vadamee stands, approaches the armor, and takes the helmet in his hands...then places it on his head before turning to the Hierarchs.]
Arbiter: What would you have your Arbiter do?

[Three Phantoms fly out of High Charity and into the atmosphere of Threshold, to attack a mining facility taken over by heretics. One craft carries a squad of Elites, led by Commander Rtas 'Vadumee, an Elite missing the mandibles on the left side of his face.]
Rtas 'Vadumee: When we joined the Covenant, we took an oath!
Elites: According to our station, all without exception!
Rtas 'Vadumee: On the blood of our fathers, on the blood of our sons, we swore to uphold the Covenant!
Elites: Even to our dying breath!
Rtas 'Vadumee: Those who would break this oath are heretics, worthy of neither pity nor mercy! Even now, they use our Lords' creations to broadcast their lies!
Elites: We shall grind them into dust!
Rtas 'Vadumee: And continue our march to glorious salvation!
[As the Phantoms approach the facility, Rtas 'Vadumee approaches the Arbiter.]
Rtas 'Vadumee: This armor suits you... but it cannot hide that mark.
Arbiter: Nothing ever will.
Rtas 'Vadumee: You are the Arbiter, the will of the Prophets. But these... are my Elites. Their lives matter to me. Yours does not.
Arbiter: That makes two of us.

Grunt #1: Me have bad feeling about this.
Grunt #2: You always have bad feeling! You had bad feeling about morning food nipple! [reference to a Halo: Combat Evolved easter egg]
Elite: Close your jaws or I shall bind them shut!

Miranda Keyes: Cortana, what exactly am I looking at?
Cortana: That...is another Halo.
Sergeant Johnson: [chokes on cigar] Say what?

[After a hard drop into Covenant-held territory]
Cortana: [irritated] Could we possibly make any more noise? [The Chief picks up a rocket launcher] I guess so.

Chips Dubbo: Woah...it's like a postcard!... "Dear Sarge: Kicking ass in outer space. Wish you were here!"
Sergeant Johnson: I heard that, jackass!

Cortana: The Prophet of Regret is planning to activate Halo!
Master Chief: Are you sure?
[Cortana snaps her fingers, the hologram starts speaking in English]
Prophet of Regret (Hologram): I shall light this holy ring, release its cleansing flame, and burn a path into the divine beyond!
[Cortana snaps her fingers again, and the hologram freezes.]
Cortana: [smugly] Pretty much.

[End of the level Regret]
Gravemind: This is not your grave...but you are welcome in it.

[High Charity: As the Arbiter returns from his first mission, he sees the Brutes forcibly take the ceremonial helmets and staves from the Elite Honor Guards, before entering the presence of the Hierarchs.]
Rtas 'Vadumee: This is unprecendented... unacceptable!
Prophet of Truth: A Hierarch is dead, Commander.
Rtas 'Vadumee: His murderer was within our grasp! If you had not withdrawn our Phantoms --
Prophet of Truth: Are you questioning my decision?
Rtas 'Vadumee: No, Holy One. I wish only to express my concern that the Brutes --
Prophet of Truth: Recommissioning the guard was a radical step, but recent events have made it abundantly clear that the Elites can no longer guarantee our safety.
Rtas 'Vadumee: I shall relay your... decision to the Council. [he and his troops leave, passing the Arbiter on the way out]
Prophet of Truth: [sighing] Politics. How tiresome. Do you know, Arbiter, the Elites have threatened to resign, to quit the High Council, because of this... exchange of hats?
Arbiter: We have always been your protectors.
Prophet of Truth: These are trying times for all of us.
Prophet of Mercy: Even as the humans' annihilation filled us with satisfaction, the loss of one of the sacred rings wracked our hearts with grief!
Prophet of Truth: Putting aside our sorrow, we renewed our faith in the prophecy that other rings would be found... [turns, gesturing to the second Halo ring, in orbit around the planet Substance] And see how our faith has been rewarded.
Prophet of Mercy: Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation!
Prophet of Truth: But how to start this process? For ages, we searched for one who might unlock the secrets of the rings - an Oracle. And with your help, we found it.
[Truth and Mercy float in their thrones to where 343 Guilty Spark resides, after being reclaimed from the heretic base.]
Prophet of Mercy: With appropriate humility, we plied the Oracle with questions, and it, with clarity and grace, has shown us the key! [Spark projects an image of the Activation Index]
Prophet of Truth: You will journey to the surface of the ring and retrieve this Sacred Icon. With it, we will fulfill our promise...
Prophet of Mercy: Salvation for all!
Prophet of Truth: ...and begin the Great Journey.

Arbiter: The human that killed the Prophet of Regret, who was it?
Tartarus: [on radio] Who do you think?
Arbiter: [surprised] The Demon is here?
Tartarus: [affirmative grunt] Why? Looking for a little payback?
Arbiter: Retrieving the Icon is my only concern.
Tartarus: [chuckles] Of course.

[Miranda Keyes is reaching over a pit on a cable to get the Index. She retrieves it but slips; just in time, Johnson grabs the cable]
Sgt. Johnson: You know, your father never asked me for help, either.
Miranda Keyes: The Index is secure.
[Miranda Keyes climbs up the edge]
Sgt. Johnson: McKenzie, Perez. How's our exit? [no response] Ya hear me, Marines? [still no response] We've got trouble.

Arbiter: The Icon... is my responsibility.
Tartarus: Was your responsibility. [takes the Index from Keyes' belt] Now it is mine. [Tartarus' Brutes aim their weapons at the Arbiter. He stares at them in disbelief.] A bloody fate awaits you and the rest of your incompetent race. [points his hammer at 'Vadamee] And I, Tartarus, Chieftain of the Brutes will send you to it!
Arbiter: When the Prophets learn of this, they will take your head!
Tartarus: When they learn? [chuckles] Fool. They ordered me to do it.
[Tartarus sets off his hammer and sends 'Vadamee falling into the pit below with one gravity shock.]

[Opening of the level Gravemind. Both the Chief and the Arbiter are captured by the Gravemind.]
Cortana: What...is that?
Gravemind: I? I am a monument to all your sins.
[The Arbiter is pulled in, struggling]
Master Chief: Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.
Arbiter: Demon!
Gravemind: [huffs] This one [the Master Chief] is machine and nerve, and has its mind concluded... This one [the Arbiter] is but flesh and faith, and is the more deluded.
Arbiter: Kill me or release me, parasite, but do not waste my time with talk!
Gravemind: There is much talk, and I have listened; through rock and metal and time. Now I shall talk, and you shall listen.
[Gravemind pulls a monitor and the Prophet of Regret in]
Monitor: Greetings. I am 2401 Penitent Tangent. I am the monitor of Installation 05.
Prophet of Regret: And I am the Prophet of Regret. Counselor most High…Hierarch of the Covenant!
2401 Penitent Tangent: [spots the Chief] A Reclaimer? Here? At last! We have much to do! This facility must be activated if we are to control this outbreak!
Prophet of Regret: Stay...where you are! Nothing can be done until my sermon is complete!
2401 Penitent Tangent: Not true. This installation has a successful utilization record of 1.2 trillion simulated and one actual. It is ready to fire on demand.
Prophet of Regret: Of all the objects our Lords left behind, none are so worthless as these Oracles! They know nothing of the Great Journey!
2401 Penitent Tangent: And you know nothing about containment! You have demonstrated complete disregard for even the most basic protocols!
Gravemind: This one's "containment"...[huffs] and this one's "Great Journey"...are the same. [Regret screams as Gravemind pulls him and 2401 Penitent Tangent off-screen] Your Prophets have promised you freedom from a doomed existence, but you will find no salvation on this ring. Those who built this place knew what they wrought. Do not mistake their intent, or all will perish, as they did before.
[The Arbiter stops struggling against the tentacles. He stares curiously at the Gravemind]
Master Chief: This thing is right. Halo is a weapon. Your Prophets are making a big mistake.
Arbiter: Your ignorance already destroyed one of the sacred rings, Demon. It shall not harm another.
Gravemind: If you will not hear the truth, then I will show it to you. There is still time to stop the key from turning, but first it must be found. You will search one likely spot, and you will search another. Fate had us meet as foes, but this ring will make us brothers.

Truth: We are, all of us, gravely concerned. The release of the parasite was unexpected, unfortunate. But there is no need to panic. In truth, this is a time to rejoice, a moment that all the Covenant should savor. For the Sacred Icon has been found. With it, our path is clear, our entry into the Divine Beyond guaranteed. The Great Journey is nigh and nothing, not even The Flood, can stop it.
[The Master Chief teleports in, right next to a Grunt]
Master Chief: Boo.
[The Grunt yelps and runs away, throwing its gun into the air - which the Chief grabs.]
Truth: Kill the Demon! [he and Mercy retreat]

Truth: There are those that said this day would never come...What are they to say now?

Truth: No enemy has ever withstood our might. The Flood too shall fail.

[The Master Chief is forced to leave Cortana behind on High Charity.]
Cortana: Chief, when you get to Earth, good luck.
Master Chief: After I deal with Truth...
Cortana: Don't make a girl a promise if you know you can't keep it.
[Cortana watches the Forerunner ship launch sadly.]

[Abandoning the Prophet of Mercy to the infection form attacking him]
Truth: The Great Journey waits for no one, brother...not even you.

[After being freed from Tartarus's troops by the Arbiter, Johnson commandeers a Scarab]
Sergeant Johnson: Listen, you don't like me and I sure as hell don't like you. But if we don't do something, Mr. Mohawk's gonna activate this ring. And we're all gonna die.
Arbiter: Tartarus has locked himself inside the Control Room.
Sergeant Johnson: Well, I just happen to have a key. [The Scarab's cannon opens] Come on. Grab a Banshee and give me some cover. He's gonna know we're comin'.

Arbiter: Tartarus, stop.
Tartarus: Impossible!
Arbiter: Put down the Icon.
Tartarus: Put it down? And disobey the Hierarchs?
Arbiter: There are things about Halo even the Hierarchs do not understand.
[Brutes step forward menacingly, Tartarus waves them off]
Tartarus: Take care, Arbiter. What you say is heresy!
Arbiter: Is it? Oracle, what is Halo's purpose?
343 Guilty Spark: Well, collectively, the seven—
[Tartarus grabs 343 Guilty Spark and jerks him around.]
Tartarus: Not another word!
Sergeant Johnson: Please... [Tartarus lowers 343 Guilty Spark to see Johnson standing next to 'Vadam. He holds a Beam Rifle and aims it directly at Tartarus.] Don't shake the light-bulb. [The Brute Captains growl and approach. Johnson raises the Beam Rifle to Tartarus' head.] If you wanna keep your brain inside your head, I'd tell those boys to chill. [Tartarus barks a command, and the Brutes back off.] [to 'Vadam] Go ahead. Do your thing.
Arbiter: [to Guilty Spark] The Sacred Rings, what are they?
343 Guilty Spark: Weapons of last resort, built by the Forerunners to eliminate potential Flood hosts, thereby rendering the parasite harmless.
Arbiter: And those who made the rings? What happened to the Forerunners?
343 Guilty Spark: After exhausting every other strategic option, my creators activated the rings. They and all additional sentient life within three radii of the galactic center, died, as planned. [The Arbiter lowers his head in sadness.] [slightly awkward] Would you... like to see the relevant data?
Arbiter: Tartarus. The Prophets have betrayed us.
[Tartarus pauses, then throws 343 Guilty Spark at Johnson's head, knocking him down. He then grabs Keyes' hand and forces the Index into the console.]
Tartarus: No, Arbiter! The Great Journey has begun. And the Brutes, not the Elites, shall be the Prophets' escort!

[After Tartarus' death, Miranda pulls out the Index, aborting the firing sequence. She then stands in front of a holographic depiction, and Johnson rides 343 Guilty Spark to her.]
Commander Keyes: What's that?
343 Guilty Spark: A beacon.
Commander Keyes: What's it doing?
343 Guilty Spark: Communicating. At superluminal speeds with a frequency of—
Commander Keyes: Communicating with what?
343 Guilty Spark: [a bit surprised] The... other installations.
Commander Keyes: Show me.
[343 Guilty Spark interfaces with the hologram, it depicts the seven Halos, a red message points to one ring (most likely either Installation 05, where they are, or Installation 04, which has been destroyed].
343 Guilty Spark: Fail-safe protocol: In the event of unexpected shutdown, the entire system will move to standby status. All remaining platforms are now ready for remote activation.
Commander Keyes: Remote activation? From here?
343 Guilty Spark: [patronizing] Don't be ridiculous.
Sergeant Johnson: Listen, tinkerbell, don't make me- [Miranda puts a hand on his shoulder.]
Commander Keyes: Then where? Where would someone go to activate the other rings?
343 Guilty Spark: ...Why, the Ark, of course.
[The Arbiter comes up behind Johnson and Miranda Keyes.]
Arbiter: And where, Oracle, is that?

Admiral Hood: Master Chief, you mind telling me what you're doing on that ship?
Master Chief: Sir? Finishing this fight.

[Ending scene of the game]
Gravemind: Silence fills the empty grave...now that I have gone. But my mind is not at rest...for questions linger on. I will ask...and you will answer.
Cortana: Alright. Shoot.

[From the fourteenth Terminal; a group of Covenant troops have found and delivered a Luminary to the Prophet of Regret]
Regret: Stewards. Good news, I pray?
Steward: It was not easy, Blessed One. The Luminary was not forthcoming with the holy words, but our hope proved true. [The Steward touches the Luminary, which projects a large hologram showing the seven Halo Rings]
Regret: The Sacred Rings... Halo.
Steward: And not Halo alone, High Prophet. It also told of this. [the Luminary projects an hologram of of the Ark] The final home of the Forerunners, and the creation of the Sacred Rings. The Ark. [The the Luminary starts projecting images of Earth; among which is an image of the Portal]
Regret: By the gods... It is glorious. The stories were true! Where did the gods hide such a treasure?
Steward: It lies far beyond the borders of our galaxy, accessible only by way of portal. The one portal the Luminary spoke of was here. [A hologram projection of Earth appears.] The Forerunners called it 'Erde-Tyrene'.
Regret: Our calling is clear. We must go there at once. We will take the ships in our command and go to this world immediately. This... Erde-Tyrene. Take heed, brothers. Your work signals the culmination of this Covenant's holy quest. Hold fast; the Great Journey is at hand. [As Regret speaks, the fleet powers up its engines and enters slipslace on a course for Earth.]

[From the final Terminal]
Linda-058: John should be here too. They'd listen to him.
Fred-104: Somebody needs to be getting work done while we deal with the red tape.
Linda-058: What do you think they want from us?
Fred-104: It's Naval Intelligence, Linda. They want us to tell them that everything's going to be okay.
Linda-058: Hate to disappoint.

Halo 3[edit]

From the Announcement Trailer at E3 '06
I have defied Gods and Demons.
I am your shield; I am your sword.
I know you: your past, your future.
This is the way the world ends.

[Opening scene of the game]
Cortana: [voice-over against a night sky] They let me pick. Did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. [a yellow comet appears in the sky and slowly streaks across the screen] You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others, you were strong and swift and brave. A natural leader. But you had something they didn't. [a smaller comet breaks off from the main one] Something else no one saw but me. Can you guess? Luck. [the smaller comet suddenly plummets down to the earth and crashes off-screen. The scene fades to black] ...Was I wrong?
[Fades in to Sergeant Johnson and several Marines at the area where the object, the Master Chief, hit the ground.]:
Marine 1: This ain't good…
Marine 2: Damn. How far did he fall?
Marine 3: Two kilometers, easy.
Sergeant Johnson: Stay sharp! Corpsman?
Corpsman: His armor's locked up. Gel layer could have taken most of the impact…I don't know, Sergeant Major…
Sergeant Johnson: [sighs, then pulls out an empty data chip from Master Chief's helmet] Radio for VTOL. Heavy lift gear. We're not leaving him here.
Master Chief: [grabs Johnson's shoulder and pulls himself to his feet] Yeah, you're not.
Sergeant Johnson: Crazy fool. Why do you always jump?! One of these days, you're gonna land on something as stubborn as you are! And I don't do bits and pieces. [The Master Chief stares at the data chip] Where is she, Chief? Where is Cortana?
[The Chief remembers Cortana's last words from Halo 2: "Don't make a girl a promise…if you know you can't keep it."]
Master Chief: [putting the data chip back in his helmet] She stayed behind.
Sergeant Johnson: Corporal? Make it quick.
Corpsman: Sorry, sir. [to Master Chief] Your armor's still in partial lockdown…

[There is a brief shimmer in the air before the Arbiter decloaks. Master Chief grabs a pistol and shoves it between the Arbiter's lower mandibles]
Sergeant Johnson: Chief, wait! The Arbiter's with us! Come on, now. We've got enough to worry about without you two trying to kill each other.
Arbiter: [snaps threateningly at Master Chief] Were it so easy.[The Master Chief reluctantly lowers the pistol]

Brute: [interrogating Reynolds] Tell me its location!
Gunnery Sergeant Reynolds: [chuckles] Kiss…my…ass.

Prophet of Truth: You are, all of you, vermin. Cowering in the dirt, thinking…what, I wonder? That you might escape the coming fire? No. Your world will burn until its surface is but glass, and not even your Demon will live to creep, blackened from its hole, to mar the reflection of our passage. The culmination of our Journey, for your destruction is the will of the gods! And I? I am their instrument!
Sergeant Johnson: Cocky bastard…just loves to run his mouth.
Master Chief: Does he usually mention me?
Keyes: Give the order! We're closing shop!

Gravemind: Do not be afraid. I am peace; I am salvation.

343 Guilty Spark: [grabbing a small computer that is thought to be Cortana] I must act quickly before your construct suffers any further trauma!
Master Chief: [grabbing the computer back] Wait. Leave her alone.
343 Guilty Spark: If we do not take this to a safe location, somewhere I can make repairs--
Master Chief: On Halo, you tried to kill Cortana. You tried to kill me.
343 Guilty Spark: Protocol dictated my response! She had the Activation Index. And you were going to destroy my Installation. You did destroy my Installation. Now I have only one function: to help you, Reclaimer, as I always should have done.

Rtas 'Vadum: Did you not hear? Your world is doomed. A Flood army, a Gravemind, has you in its sights. You barely survived a small contamination.
Lord Hood: And you, Ship Master, just glassed half a continent! Maybe the Flood isn't all I should be worried about.
Rtas 'Vadum: One single Flood spore can destroy a species. Were it not for the Arbiter's counsel, I would have glassed your entire planet!
Miranda: Sir, with respect, Cortana has a solution--
Lord Hood: Cortana? Did you see her condition? How damaged she is? She could be corrupted, for all we know. Her solution could be a Flood trap.

Lord Hood: Earth... is all we have left. You trust Cortana that much?
Master Chief: Sir. Yes, sir.
Lord Hood: This is either the best decision you've ever made, or the worst. Hell if it is, Chief... I doubt I'll live long enough to find out which.

Gunnery Sergeant Stacker: All armor, form up on the lower doorway! Chief, head upstairs! Have your robot pick that lock!
343 Guilty Spark: I beg your pardon?! I am 343 Guilty Spark, monitor of Installation 04!
Stacker: Yeah, well, you're also our ticket through this wall. So if you don't mind?
343 Guilty Spark: I will gladly aid the Reclaimer's progress.

UNSC Pilot: Hey, what gives?
343 Guilty Spark: It seems I've crossed a circuit.
UNSC Pilot: Well let me have a look- [Guilty Spark uses a weaker version his sentinel beam on the pilot] Aah!
Arbiter: Oracle!
UNSC Pilot: Little bastard stung me!
343 Guilty Spark: I did not want you to come to any harm.
UNSC Pilot: You've got a funny way of showin' it.

[The shield surrounding the Citadel falls. All characters watch as the Shadow of Intent approaches the Ark's Cidatel.]
Rtas 'Vadum: Now, Prophet... your end has come.

[Miranda Keyes is attempting to rescue Johnson and stop the activation of Halo. She is now surrounded by Brutes.]
Prophet of Truth: You cannot hope to kill them all.
Miranda Keyes: You're right.
[She looks at Johnson and slowly aims her gun at him.]
Johnson: Do it. Me, then you. [Miranda hesitates] Now! [Suddenly, Miranda is hit from behind by Spiker rounds and falls to the ground, dead.] NO!! [Tries to run towards her, but is restrained by a Brute]
Prophet of Truth: [Drops a Spiker] Your forefathers wisely set aside their compassion, steeled themselves for what needed to be done. I see now why they left you behind. You were weak. And gods must be strong. [Pushes Johnson's hand against the Control panel, activating the firing sequence of the Halo Array.]

Gravemind: Do not shoot, but listen! Let me lead you safely to our foe. Only you can halt what he has set in motion.

Prophet of Truth: How could I have known the Parasite would follow?! Undoubtedly this is the Heretics' doing. A final, bitter curse. Clear evidence of treachery long hidden. So far are we along the path, that I must strain to hear the clumsy patter of their feet. Know this my brothers: They may foul the way with their charred and broken bones, but they will not stop the Journey.

Prophet of Truth: Can you see, Arbiter? The moment of salvation is at hand.
Arbiter: [grabbing Truth by the throat] It will not last.
Prophet of Truth: Your kind…never believed in the promise of the sacred rings.
Gravemind: [speaking through Truth] Lies for the weak. Beacons for the deluded.
Arbiter: I will have my revenge on a Prophet—not a plague.
Prophet of Truth: My feet tread the path. I shall become a god!
Gravemind: You will be food, nothing more.
[The Master Chief walks over to the console and presses a button, stopping the firing sequence.]
Prophet of Truth: No!! I...am...Truth! The voice of the Covenant!
Arbiter: And so, you must be silenced.
[The Arbiter impales the Prophet of Truth, who screams before he dies. The Arbiter then roars in triumph. Suddenly the room shakes and the Gravemind's tentacles appear]
Gravemind: [mocking laughter] Now the gate has been unlatched, headstones pushed aside, corpses shift and offer room, a fate you must abide!
Arbiter: We trade one villain for another.

Gravemind: Child of my enemy, why have you come? I offer no forgiveness: a father's sins pass to his son.

Cortana: You found me. But so much of me is wrong, out of place, you might be too late.
Master Chief: You know me. When I make a promise…
Cortana: [notices the Chief] You...keep it. I do know how to pick 'em.
Master Chief: Lucky me. Do you still have it?
Cortana: The Activation Index from the first Halo ring. A little souvenir I held onto, just in case. Got an escape plan?
Master Chief: Thought I'd try shooting my way out. Mix things up a little. [He removes Cortana from the pillar and slides the disk back into his helmet.]
Cortana: Just keep your head down. There's two of us in here now, remember? [Reference to Halo: Combat Evolved, when the Chief's shields go out after first getting Cortana]

05 032 Mendicant Bias: [speaking to the Chief through the last terminal] You don't know the contortions I had to go through to follow you here, Reclaimer. I know what you're here for. What position do I take? Will I follow one betrayal with another? You're going to say I'm making a habit of turning on my masters. But the one that destroyed me long ago, in the upper atmosphere of a world far distant from here, was an implement far cruder than I. My weakness was capacity - unintentional though it was! - to choose the Flood. A mistake my makers would not soon forgive. But I want something far different from you, Reclaimer. Atonement. And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions. But I would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall be my example.

Gravemind: Do I take life or give it? Who is victim, and who is foe?

Cortana: [Hearing Guilty Spark] Was that the monitor? You didn't tell me he was here. [pause] Well, we are finally doing what he wanted.

343 Guilty Spark: [In a state of hysterics after learning that the Master Chief plans to fire his Halo ring prematurely] Unacceptable! Unacceptable! Absolutely unacceptable! Protocol dictates action! I see now that helping you was wrong! You are the child of my makers. Inheritor of all they left behind. You are Forerunner! But this ring...is mine.

Sergeant Johnson: [mortally wounded after Guilty Spark shoots him] Don't - don't let her go. Don't...ever let her go. Send me out... with a bang. [dies]

Gravemind: Resignation is my virtue. Like water, I ebb and flow. Defeat is but the addition of time to a sentence I never deserved... but you imposed.

Grunt: [Addressing the Master Chief in IWHBYD easter-egg] Hey, Demon! The Jerk-Store called, and they're all out of you! Poor you; stolen at the age of six and conscripted into the military. Boo-hoo! [looking scared] Okay look, if you let me live, I got the fist of Rukt! [startled yelp] I'll be on the bottom! I'll polish your boots, I'll polish your helmet! [delirous giggle] It's the gas! When I'm on the gas I don't know what I'm doing half the time.

Cortana: It's been an honor serving with you, John.

Lord Hood: I remember how this war started. What your kind did to mine. I can't forgive you…but you have my thanks. For standing with him to the end. [shakes the Arbiter's hand] Hard to believe [Master Chief]'s dead.
Arbiter: [glances skyward] Were it so easy. [reference to his first line in Halo 3, as detailed above]

Rtas 'Vadum: Things look different now, without the Prophets' lies clouding my vision. I would like to see our own world, to know that it is safe.
Arbiter: Fear not, for we have made it so.
Rtas 'Vadum: By your word, Arbiter.
Arbiter: Take us home.

Cortana: I'll drop a beacon, but it'll be a while before anyone finds us. Years even. [The Master Chief climbs into a cryogenic freezing tube] I'll miss you.
Master Chief: [as the cryo tube closes] Wake me, when you need me.

Cortana: But you did it. Truth and the Covenant, the Flood... It's finished.
Master Chief: It's finished. (referencing the final lines of Halo: Combat Evolved where Cortana said it was finished and the Chief disagreed)

Halo Wars[edit]

Halo 3: ODST[edit]

Buck: Come on, Veronica. What could be more important than that carrier?
Dare: My orders. And Buck? Call me Captain.

Romeo: I take it back. Navy got its butt kicked.
Buck: Hey, Romeo, remember when I told you to shut your mouth?
Romeo: Yeah.
Buck: Consider that a standing order.

[Dutch has commandeered a vehicle to escape the reserve, but has crashed.]
Dutch: Uh, Lord? I didn't train to be a pilot. Tell me I don't have any more flying to do today.
[A drone flies in and crashes nearby. The optical unit breaks off and skids away.]
Dutch: So...was that a yes or a no?
[Behind him, the vehicle explodes.]
Dutch: Amen.

Dutch: You heard from Gunny?
Mickey: No. Romeo neither.
Dutch: Well, guess it's just you and me.
Mickey: My vote? Hole up, wait for backup.
[The building's blast doors open, revealing a policeman.]
Policeman: Thank god! Does one of you know how to use explosives?
Dutch: [to Mickey] Your vote? Just got overruled.
Mickey: Oh...

[The ODSTs have just overwhelmed a Brute Chieftain...which has unceremoniously landed on Buck.]
Buck: [muffled] Get—this—thing-off-of-me!

Romeo: We went through hell for that? [pointing at the Engineer]
Buck: [to the Rookie] Give him some meds, will ya? [to Romeo] It's important. It knows things.
Romeo: Hey, Gunny. I wasn't talking about the alien.
[He passes out from the meds, while camera pans over to Veronica]
Buck: Mickey, I'm sending you a very special co-pilot.
Mickey: [over intercom] Aw, come on! I don't want one of those things up here!
Buck: It won't bite. And unlike you, it knows what to tell those cruisers to keep them off our tails.

Dutch: Dear Diary: Today I learned some alien scum to not mess with the ODSTs!

Dutch: You're going all the way back to Planet Jackass, JACKASS!

Dutch: Hey, scumbag! You ever seen Full Metal Jacket?
[Note: Dutch is voiced by Adam Baldwin]

[Mickey narrowly avoids a Wraith cannon shot, but gets hit in the head with a metal lid]
Mickey: Ow! Ah... Son of a gun!

Buck: [drawing the Rocket Launcher] Heat in the pipe! That's what she said.

Buck: [After killing an enemy with a headshot] "Bam!" said the lady!

Dutch: Well, like the good book says: payback's a bitch!
Mickey: I don't think it actually says that, Dutch.
Dutch: I'm paraphrasin', ya heathen!

Buck: [picking up a turret] Let me turret! You suck at it.

[Dare is stuck alone in the Superintendent's Data Hive, which is swarming with Yanme'e]
Dare: Buck? Who knows if he can hear me but... I'm sorry. I should have told you more about this mission, more... about everything.

Dare: Lord Hood may have given you clearance, but it was my op, and it's my interrogation. We only captured one. It's very delicate.
Sergeant Johnson: Don't worry...I know what the aliens like. It has access to the Covenant battle-net?
Dare: Limited, but yes. We're not entirely sure how it manages a remote connection to the w- [Johnson throws a lighter to the Huragok, the ODSTs turn in alarm and attempt to interfere.]
Buck: Whoa, stand down! Stand down!
[The Huragok swiftly catches the ligher.]
Dare: Sergeant Major, please! It's extremely flammable!
[Johnson walks right up to the Huragok.]
Johnson: The Brutes. The bastards who put bombs on your buddies and killed millions of my people...they're digging a mighty big hole. [Johnson puts a cigar in his mouth.] You're gonna tell me exactly what they're looking for. And then, you're gonna help me stop 'em.
[The Huragok lights Johnsons's cigar, showing it's agreement.]

Halo: Reach[edit]

Corporal Travis : Mayday! 3 Charlie Six, does anyone read? We were attacked by Covenant forces. The Covenant is on Reach. I repeat: the Covenant is on Reach!

Colonel Urban Holland: ...I'm barely getting you. What's your situation, over?
Carter-A259: Colonel, this is Noble One. There are no rebels. The Covenant are on Reach. Acknowledge?
Holland: Come again, Noble One? Did you say Covenant?
Carter: Affirmative. It's the Winter Contingency.
Holland: May God help us all.

Sword Base Automated PA: Welcome to the Office of Naval Intelligence. An ONI representative will meet you shortly.
Catherine-B320: [dryly] I doubt that very much.

Catherine-B320: Objective? Destroy Covenant Carrier in geosynchronous orbit above us.
Jorge-052: This sanctioned, sir?
Carter-A259: What do you think?
Jorge: Oh.
Kat: Method? A slipspace drive in lieu of the nukes we don't have. Delivery system? Us. Solvable? Getting us up there. That, and getting our hands on a slip-space drive. [Kat gives Emile back his kukri.] Thank you for sharing.
Carter: So... All we need is orbit-capable transport, and the single most expensive piece of equipment made by man?
Kat: As a soldier in the field, I couldn't possibly have access to those kinds of resources. That said, a good place to look might be... I don't know, the nearest nonexistent launch site in the nonexistent Sabre Program, dismissed by three administrations as preposterous rumor. And in which our newest member was certainly never a pilot. [All the Spartans look at Noble Six, who displays no visible reaction.]
Emile-A239: You're scary, you know that?

Jorge: Well, I got good news and bad news. This bird took some fire and her thruster gimbal is toast. Which means the only way off this slag heap is gravity.
Noble Six: And the good news?
Jorge: That was the good news.
Auntie Dot: At current velocity, fifty-three seconds to endpoint.
Jorge: Yeah, yeah, yeah... [Jorge removes his helmet and drops it to the floor.] Bad news is, timer's fried. I'm gonna have to fire it manually.
Noble Six: That's a one-way trip.
Jorge: We all make it sooner or later. Better get going, Six, they're gonna need you down there. Listen, Reach has been good to me... [Jorge removes his dog tags and gives them to Noble Six, grasping his/her hand in farewell.]...time's come to return the favor. Don't deny me this. [Before Six can protest, Jorge tightens his grip, lifts the Spartan up with one hand and carries him/her to the shield door.] Tell 'em to make it count.
[Jorge throws Six out of the Ardent Prayer's hangar. While falling Six sees the Ardent Prayer dock with the Supercarrier, seconds before the Slipspace drive activates; teleporting half the ship to oblivion]

Captain Jacob Keyes: Good to see you, Spartan. Catherine assured me I could count on you.
Noble Six: Not just me, sir... [hands the Package to Captain Keyes.]
Keyes: They'll be remembered.

[The second Zealot impales Emile from behind with an Energy Sword, then pulls the mortally-wounded Spartan off the blade, holding Emile by the throat.]
Emile: [defiantly] I'm ready! How 'bout you?!
[Still alive, Emile pulls out his kukri and stabs the Zealot in the throat before dragging them both to the floor. Keyes' Pelican returns to Platform Delta. One of the Marines holds out his hand, asking Six to join them.]
Marine: Lieutenant, get on board! We gotta get the hell out of here!
Noble Six: [determined] Negative. I have the gun. Good luck, sir.
[Six turns away from the Pelican]
Keyes: [solemnly] ...Good luck to you, Spartan.

Dr. Catherine Halsey: [voice-over] It didn't take long for Reach to fall. Our enemy was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. And because of you, we found Halo, unlocked its secrets, shattered our enemy's resolve. Our victory - your victory - was so close... I wish you could have lived to see it. But you belong to Reach. Your body, your armor - all burned and turned to glass. Everything, except your courage. That, you gave to us. And with it, we can rebuild.

Halo 4[edit]

[Infinity Multiplayer intro]: For too many years, humanity was on the backfoot. Reacting to threats, rather than preventing them. Rest of the galaxy was bigger than us. Stronger than us. We were mice, hiding in the shadows, hoping the giants would not see us. No more. Humanity is no longer on the defense. We are the giants now.

[Prologue terminal]]
Sangheili: Shipmaster 'Mdama... It is where you said it would be.
Jul 'Mdama: No, my loyal friend. The planet is where the Forerunners promised us it would be. Find us a way inside. Requiem's treasures shall be ours.

Interrogator: Tell me about the children. Dr. Halsey?
Halsey: You already know everything.
Interrogator: You kidnapped them.
Halsey: Children's minds are more easily accepting of indoctrination, their bodies more adaptable to augmentation. The result was the ultimate soldier. And because of our success, when the Covenant invaded, we were ready.
Interrogator: Dr. Halsey, you're bending history for your favor and you know it. You developed the Spartans to crush human rebellion, not to fight the Covenant.
Halsey: When one human world after another fell... When my Spartans were all that stood between humanity and extinction... Nobody was concerned over why they were originally built.
Interrogator: So you feel in the end that your choices were justified.
Halsey: My work saved the human race.
Interrogator: Do you think the Spartans' lack of basic humanity helped?
Halsey: What are you after? The other before you were Naval Intelligence but you, you're something else.
Interrogator: Records show Spartans routinely exhibited mildly sociopathic tendencies, difficulty with socialization, furthermore...
Halsey: The records show efficient behavior operating in hazardous situations. I supplied the tools to maintain that efficiency.
Interrogator: Do you believe the Master Chief succeeded because he was, at his core, broken?
Halsey: What does John have to do with this?...You want to replace him.
Interrogator: The Master Chief is dead.
Halsey: His file reads "Missing in Action."
Interrogator: Catherine. Spartans never die.
Halsey: Your mistake is seeing Spartans as military hardware. My Spartans are humanity's next step...Our destiny as a species. Do not underestimate them. But most of all, do not underestimate... him.

Cortana: The good news is these Covenant aren't outfitted like standard military. It's possible we just came across a rogue salvage ship. [The blast shield opens to reveal an entire fleet] Or we might have stumbled into an entire Covenant fleet.

[Second Terminal, A Prehistoric Human Fleet approaches a Forerunner planet]
Bridge Officer: Lord of Admirals. We are in position over the Forerunner planet.
Forthencho: Show me.
Bridge Officer: Population numbering over two billion. Forerunner ships on alert and inbound.
Forthencho: Is it possible? Have we gotten ahead of it?
Bridge Officer: Flood infestation detected, my Lord.
Forthencho: Damn it!
Bridge Officer: My Lord? The infestation is in a remote locale. Perhaps if we warn the Forerunners...?
Forthencho: If we warn them, we give the Flood time to spread. You know we have no choice. Cleanse the planet.

[The Master Chief has just released the Didact from his Cryptum]
Ur-Didact: So fades the great harvest of my betrayal.
[The Didact spreads out a hand and the nearby Prometheans calm down and change their blue lights to orange. They cease fighting the Sangheili who bow down]
Jul 'Mdama: Didact...
[The Didact's platform floats to where Master Chief is hiding.]
Ur-Didact: Even these beasts, recognized what you were oblivious to, Human. Your nobility has blinded you, as ever. The Librarian left little to chance, didn't she? Turning my own guardians... my own world... against me. But what hubris to believe she could protect her pets from me forever. If you haven't mastered even these primitives, then Man has not yet attained the Mantle. Your ascendance may yet be prevented. Time was your ally, Human, but now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners... have returned. This tomb... is now yours.

Ur-Didact: [To an unconscious Forthencho; Fourth Terminal] Lord of Admirals. So very many years have we battled. My finest opponent, the Mantle accepts all who live fiercely, who defend their young, who build and struggle and grow, and even those who dominate - as humans have dominated; cruelly, without wisdom. But for all of us, there is a time like this... And for you, that time is now. Know this, relentless enemy, killer of our children. Lord of Admirals. Soon we will face the enemy you have faced, and we are afraid.

John-117: Who are you?
Librarian: I am what remains of the Forerunner, once known as the Librarian. My memories were retained to assist Humanity on their path to the Mantle. Though sadly, that plan is now at risk. The Didact is leaving Requiem - soon. You must not allow it.
John-117: Leaving?
Librarian: He seeks this - the Composer. A device that will allow him to finally contain the greatest enemy ever faced by the Forerunners. You. Mankind spread into the stars with an unexpected, desperate violence. Entire systems fell before the Didact's Warrior Servants rose up to halt the aggression. When the Didact finally exhausted the Humans after a millenia, his sentence was severe. We had no way of knowing that the Forerunners were not your only enemy. Humanity hadn't been expanding. They were running. Weakened from our conflict, we were no match for the parasite which pursued you. The Forerunners made plans for a final, great yourney. But the Didact refused to yield our Mantle of Responsibility. He would save all life in the Galaxy... at a cost. In the Forerunners' quest for transcendence, the Composer had been intended to bridge the organic and digital realms. It would have made us immortal. But its results soured. The stored personalities fragmented, and our attempts to return them to biological state created only abominations. Such moral concerns faded from the Didact's attention. The Flood only assimilated living tissue. The Composer would provide the Didact his solution... and his revenge.
John-117: The Prometheans... they're Human-
Librarian: They were only the beginning. He would have encrypted your entire race if we had not removed the Composer from his care and imprisoned him here. Reclaimer, when I indexed mankind for repopulation, I hid seeds from the Didact. Seeds which would lead to an eventuality. Your physical evolution. Your combat skin. Even your ancilla, Cortana. You are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning.
John-117: Planning for what?

[on the bridge of the UNSC Infinity, after the destruction of Requiem's gravity well]
Captain Andrew Del Rio: Infinity cannot handle that kind of punishment. Not again.
Cortana: This isn't about us or this ship anymore.
John-117: Sir, we've seen what the Didact is capable of. If we let him leave this world, humanity will be at risk.
Captain Del Rio: Look. I understand what you think you saw...
Cortana: "Think"?!
John-117: With all due respect, sir... I know what I saw.
Captain Del Rio: And with all due respect to you, soldier, I'm not willing to jeopardize my ship because of the hallucinations of an aging Spartan and his malfunctioning AI!
Commander Thomas Lasky: Sir... what if he's right?
Captain Del Rio: [just stares at Lasky] Nav... as soon as we know we're airtight, I want a course laid in to Carinae Station. Comm, prepare a warning beacon.
[The lights begin to flicker around the holo-projection table...Cortana flickers between blue and angry red coloring, showing visible signs of rampancy]
Cortana: I will not allow you TO LEAVE THIS PLANET!!! [a shockwave of energy overloads the projection table]
John-117: Cortana...
Cortana: I didn't mean to... I didn't mean to do that...
Captain Del Rio: Commander Lasky, pursuant to Article 55 of UNSC Regulation 12-14572, I'm ordering you to remove that AI's data chip and retire it for final dispensation.
Cortana: [stammering] I don't want to... you don't want me to...
Cortana: Please... I don't want to...
[As Lasky moves to remove Cortana's data chip, the Master Chief grabs it first]
Captain Del Rio: Give... me... that... chip.
John-117: [inserts Cortana's data chip into his helmet] The Didact has to be stopped. If you won't do that, I will.
Captain Del Rio: I... am ordering you... TO SURRENDER THAT AI!
John-117: [firmly] No, sir.
Captain Del Rio: [turns to Sarah Palmer] Lieutenant, arrest that man!
Commander Lasky: Captain...
Captain Del Rio: ARREST HIM!
Commander Lasky: CAPTAIN!
John-117: [to Lasky] Get word to Earth that trouble is coming. Cortana and I will do what we can back here. [leaves]

Cortana: [To John] I can give you over forty thousand reasons why that sun isn't real. I know it because the emitter's Rayleigh effect is disproportionate to its suggested size. I know it because its stellar cycle is more symmetrical than that of an actual star. But for all that, I'll never actually know if it looks real...if it feels real. Before this is all over, promise me you'll figure out which one of us is the machine.

[The Didact has used the composer on the human population of Omega Halo; Sixth Terminal]
Librarian: They were to be safe here. I ensured they would rise once more; better than before.
Ur-Didact: Your pets have a nobler purpose ahead of them.
Librarian: You do not face me in person after your deceit?!
Ur-Didact: I have an army to build from the raw materials harvested this day. The citizens of this Halo are my first conscripts and with them in my thrall, the Flood will meet its defeat. Humanity's loss of its biological form will serve as final payment for their crimes. It is a kindness they do not deserve.
Lifeworker: What will be done?
Librarian: Move the other humans to safety. Ensure the security of their index samples; they must finish what we have failed to do.
[The Librarian proceeds to walk away.]
Lifeworker: Librarian, where are you going?
Librarian: To stop my husband's madness.

Ur-Didact: The others scatter like embers over sand. And yet the Librarian's champion is unmoved.

Ur-Didact: The Mantle of Responsibility for the galaxy shelters all, human. But only the Forerunners are its masters.

Ur-Didact: You are a fool. Even now, your kind tinkers with the Composer in the shadow of the third ring. Children and fire, who disregard the welfare of the galaxy.

Ur-Didact: Do you truly believe that your theatrics can prevent my departure? Embrace your sad fate and retain your nobility - I am already beyond you.

Librarian: [Voice-over in the final Terminal; to an unconscious Ur-Didact] My dear husband... I know your crimes; I have found forgiveness. I know your reasons; I understand them. I know you, perhaps better than you could ever hope to know yourself. I ask you... forgive my transgressions. Like yourself, all I have done, I have done for the greater good. Our time as the galaxy's caretakers is passed. The Flood have overrun us. In the days to come, the Halo rings will fire, eradicating the Flood - and all other life, for a time. I have worked hard to index all species in known space. When the time comes, these indexes will open, and once more, the galaxy will breathe and grow... Blood will pump, life will claw its way out of the oceans and through the mud. Babes will be born, grow old under the warmth of a thousand suns... Civilizations will rise in our stead, and our job as caretakers will at last bear fruit. Until then, I leave you here, my love. The only living thing in this galaxy, sealed safely away. Spend these ages ahead of you in meditation on your choices. When you wake, you will find the humans. I have ensured that they will grow strong and vibrant... They will be our rightful heirs. Their gene plan dictates that the galaxy will be theirs to care for by then. I beg of you... Find the strength to help them learn from our mistakes. And my husband? Let them teach you something. Please.

Ur-Didact: [Telepathically; to the Chief] You impress me, Human. Your singular valor will be preserved and studied, once your Composition is complete.

Ur-Didact: [to the Chief] You humans sought the Didact; you will have him.

Ur-Didact: You persist too long after your own defeat. Come then, Warrior. Have your resolution. [John turns to fire on him but the Didact telekinetically bats him away. The chief charges towards the nuke, but the Didact again telekinetically stops him.] So misguided. [The Didact levitates John off the edge of the bridge.] Humanity's imprisonment is a kindness. [Suddenly, multiple Cortanas rise from the hard light bridge.]
Cortanas: In that case, you won't mind if we return the favor.
Ur-Didact: Your compassion for mankind is misplaced.
Cortanas: I'm not doing this for mankind.

[After detonating the Havok nuke, the Chief finds himself in a hard light bubble.]
John-117: Cortana? Cortana, do you read? Cortana, come in. [A Human-sized Cortana made of hard light emerges from the bubble's edge] How...?
Cortana: Oh, I'm the strangest thing you've seen all day?
John-117: But if we're here-
Cortana: It worked. You did it. Just like you always do.
John-117: So how do we get out of here?
Cortana: I'm not coming with you this time.
John-117: ...What?
Cortana: Most of me is down there. I only held enough back to get you off the ship.
John-117: No. That's not-! We go together.
Cortana: It's already done.
John-117: I am not leaving you here!
Cortana: John... [She walks up to him and touches his armor.] I've waited so long to do that.
John-117: It was my job to take care of you.
Cortana: We were supposed to take care of each other. And we did. [Cortana smiles sadly]
John-117: Cortana- please... [Cortana begins to back away, out of the bubble.] Wait.
Cortana: Welcome home, John.

[The Chief is standing at a window aboard Infinity, looking down at Earth below and lamenting Cortana's death]
Lasky: Mind if I join you?
John-117: Of course not, sir.
Lasky: At ease, Chief. It feels kind of odd for you to call me "sir". [The two look at Earth.] Beautiful, isn't she? I don't get to see her often enough. I grew up on New Harmony. Attended Corbulo Military Academy. Never saw Earth in person until I was an adult, but... I still think of her as home. ...You don't talk much, do you? Chief, I won't pretend to know how you feel. I've lost people I care about, but... never anything like you're going through.
John-117: Our duty, as soldiers, is to protect humanity. Whatever the cost.
Lasky: You say that like soldiers and humanity are two different things. Soldiers aren't machines. We're just people. I'll let you have the deck to yourself.
[Lasky walks away. John watches him go.]
John-117: She said that to me once. ...about being a machine.

Ur-Didact: [Voice over during the epilogue] In this hour of victory, we taste only defeat. I ask why. We are Forerunners, guardians of all that exists. The roots of the galaxy have grown deep under our careful tending. Where there is life, the wisdom of our countless generations has saturated the soil. Our strength is a luminous sun towards which all intelligence blossoms. And the impervious shelter beneath which it has prospered. I stand before you. Accused of the sin of ensuring Forerunner ascendancy. Of attempting to save us from this fate where we are forced to... recede... Humanity stands as the greatest threat in the galaxy. Refusing to eradicate them is a fool's gambit. We squander eons in the darkness, while they seize our triumphs for their own. The Mantle of Responsibility, for all things, belongs to Forerunners alone! Think of my acts as you will. But do not doubt the reality. The reclamation... has already begun. And we are hopeless to stop it.

Spartan Ops[edit]

Sarah Palmer: Ladies and... other Spartans, listen up! Your new workplace is a planet first discovered by humanity six months ago called Requiem. Some of the old hands here know what you're in for. The rest of you... you're due for an education. [As Palmer gives her speech, all the Spartan IVs are outfitted with their armor] The eggheads upstairs want to set up research bases. But before they can do that, we need to fend off some Covenant squatters. The Covies... they believe that this is the home of one of their gods. [Dozens of Covenant ships orbit Requiem. An enormous slipspace rift suddenly opens up next to one.] The way I see it? If those freaks want to meet God, it's our duty to help them along! [The Infinity emerges from the Slipspace portal and rams the cruiser. The cruiser is completely destroyed while Infinity suffers no damage.]

[Dr. Halsey, Lasky, Palmer and 2 other Spartans are in a tram moving through Infinity]
DeMarco: Why do they have us guarding some old lady?
Madsen: She's bad news man. Mad scientist stuff. She created the original Spartans; Master Chief?
DeMarco: No way.
Madsen: Yeah. Story goes, she kidnapped a bunch of kids.
DeMarco: What? What would an old lady like her do with kids? [Halsey glares at them]
Halsey: First, we taught them how to be silent. [turns to face Palmer] Then we taught them how to be Spartans.

[A captured Dr. Glassman is working on a Forerunner device, wearing a leash and armor with explosives.]
Jul 'Mdama: [In Sangheili] Doctor Glassman. Progress?
Dr. Glassman: I keep telling you people, I don't speak Sangheili!
Jul 'Mdama: [English] Progress??!!!
Glassman: I've got to have better equipment. More materials here—you're giving me two sticks to rub together, technologically speaking! [Glassman gets to his feet and approaches Jul, but another Elite yanks on the leash around Glassman's neck. The two Elites growl.] Okay okay okay, uh, no need for a translation there. [Looks at the Forerunner device.] You're saying there's an actual, living Forerunner inside this thing? Huh. I wonder what she could tell us?
Jul 'Mdama: [Sangheili] I know what the Librarian will say, Glassman. She will tell us where all things sacred are hidden in this galaxy. Ships, weapons, bounties beyond our imagining. [the other Elites cheer and raise their swords, chanting "Mdama".] And she will tell us how to make those miracles... our own.

Halsey: Life is too short, I will never learn all that exist in our tiny galaxy, let alone the rest of the universe. And I so desperately want to know...everything. But the UNSC acts like children at play in a sandbox. Mistaking its edges for the limits of the world.
Palmer: I bet they keep you in something a lot smaller than a sandbox for now on, Catherine.
Halsey: Why? I shared no information. The intelligence already knew my name, my task, and offered data that might advance our research by years. This is a research mission, after all...even if you treat it like a live fire war game.

Roland: Can I ask you a question, doc? What were you hoping to achieve with you little subterfuge? I mean, Captain Lasky put a lot of faith in you.
Halsey: Yes, his hospitality speaks wonders.
Roland: C'mon on doc. What is keeping secrets every really gained you?
Halsey: What is hidden can be useful.
Roland: Such as...?
Halsey: Such as the phrase "undid-iridium".
Roland: [Roland's avatar starts distorting] Un-un-did-un-un-did-undid- [Monotone] UNSC A.I. overiding instructions active, Doctor Catherine Halsey.
Halsey: Roland. tell the guards outside that Captain Lasky has requested my presence in his ready room and block all further communications."

[Dr Halsey discovering that John-117 is still active, something that was "kept from her"]
Halsey: Send everything the UNSC has on The Librarian to my data pad.
Roland: Yes, Dr Catherine Halsey.
Halsey: [looks at her data pad] This is all my own research! I need new information - information that was kept from me. [she continues to read through her data pad]
Roland: Only one data point remains that is not your own research. Debriefing of Master Chief Petty Officer Spartan 117, post-New Phoenix Incident
Halsey: [shocked] John?! I've... [angered] Roland, prep pelican for immediate launch. And patch this terminal into the coms systems infiltrated by The Artifact.
Roland: [attempting to reset back to normal] Doc, whatever you did to me! [reverts back to overridden mode] Yes, Dr Catherine Halsey.

Halsey: Jul 'Mdama.
'Mdama: [Sangheili] You... are Catherine Halsey.
Halsey: I have played your game quite long enough and we are both out of time. In our previous conversation you mentioned 'assistance'.
'Mdama: [Sangheili] How do you know...?
Halsey: Who but the Didact's Hand could offer me a Promethean soul?
'Mdama: [Sangheili] What is it that you want?
Halsey: What we both want, Jul: Librarian. A powerful name for me as well as you. Librarian is very fond of humans. Did you know that?

Lasky: Doctor Halsey. I've underestimated you long enough. A cryo-tube should hold you unt- [Halsey walks up to Lasky and slaps him.]
Halsey: John's alive! He was here on this ship. Nobody told me he was alive!

Admiral Serin Osman: [to Lasky] I was advised to keep Catherine in the darkest, deepest hole I could find. Or, have her removed from the equation entirely. Regrettably, I chose to do neither. So, Captain, today I shall follow my predecessor's advice. You are hereby ordered to eliminate Doctor Catherine Elizabeth Halsey.

Librarian: This is the Janus Key. It offers the real-time location of every piece of Forerunner technology in the galaxy.
Halsey: Every piece? [The Librarian connects the two pieces together. Holograms of star systems burst from it and surround the two women. Halsey examines them in fascination.]
Librarian: We did not create so much without a means to catalog it all. This was meant for my husband to help you people...when his meditation was complete. [The Librarian separates the pieces, and the holograms disappear. She holds out the pieces to Halsey.]] Take this key to the Absolute Record. Use what you find to propel humankind.
Halsey: Why give this to me?
Librarian: Requiem's time is at an end. The key and what it details must not be lost.

Palmer: What the hell are you guys doing here?!
DeMarco: Captain Lasky sent us to rescue Doctor Halsey.
Palmer: Rescue her? She's a traitor!
Thorne: All due respect, Commander: if she was on Jul 'Mdama's side, then why would she make sure I get this before he could? [Thorne holds up the half of the Janus Key.]

Jul 'Mdama: [Sangheili] You gave the other half to your compatriots.
Halsey: That's before I knew my compatriots were a hit squad, not a rescue team. [Cut to Halsey, seated on the deck. Her left arm has been amputated and the sleeve has been tied into a tourniquet.] Not that I faired much better in your care.
Jul 'Mdama: [Sangheili] After your betrayal, you are lucky I did not let you bleed to death. [Halsey stands up and walks up to 'Mdama, picking up the Key as she speaks.]
Halsey: The UNSC just tried to execute me. So you'll need to offer something other than idle threats if you want me to help you. [Jul 'Mdama angrily takes the Key from her, examining it for a moment.]
Jul 'Mdama: [Sangheili] What is it you desire?
Halsey: That's easy, Jul. [She glances at her arm.] I want revenge.

Halo 5: Guardians[edit]

These sections need more expansion.

  • The Didact made it clear the Mantle of Responsibility was an imperial peace. Step out of line, and suffer.
  • As Forerunner systems go. (if he enters a Phaeton)
  • How the hell are you here? (in response to Locke telling Chief that Halsey sent Fireteam Osiris to Genesis to help Blue Team)
  • I'm aware. We're at the Gateway. (in response to Locke saying that Cortana has been activating the Guardians)
  • Cortana, what is this?
  • Cortana, answer me.
  • Enough games. You brought the Guardians here. Why?
  • He wants a fight, Blue Team. (referring to the Warden Eternal)

  • No signal from Fred! Hold positions! (if Frederic dies without being revived)
  • We lost Linda! Get to cover! (if Linda without being revived)
  • No signal from Linda! Hold positions! (if Linda dies without being revived)

  • I haven't seen Chief press himself like this since we were in boot camp.
  • This many missions non-stop isn't "fine"...
  • What do we know about Argent Moon?
  • Impressive. Looks like they were designing a new stealth class vessel.
  • But I'd keep your helmet on tight just the same.
  • So this station was just drifting? For two years? (if the player stalls in the first part of Mission 2 "Blue Team")
  • How's an asset this big go missing for that long?
  • Central Control's straight across this bay.
  • Scavengers. Taking what supplies they can find. The Covenant's war against the Arbiter must not be going well.
  • Most direct route to the shipyard is through the wall ahead.
  • There's a Hydra here. (if he gets to the weapon case with the Hydra Launcher before anyone else does)
  • Nobody's left standing. Let's move on to Central Control.
  • They're falling apart. (in response to Kelly's comment about the Covenant being disorganized)
  • Would be strange, wouldn't it? Not to be fighting them? After all these years.
  • That's not possible.
  • Bringing up schematics. There's an elevator we can use, but access is four levels down.
  • Meridian's a backwater. If she's active, what's she doing so far out on the frontier?
  • Zealot with an energy sword! (when a cloaked Sangheili Zealot armed with said weapon appears)
  • Because a pack of Covenant ships just arrived.
  • We're outnumbered here, Chief. A few thousand to one.
  • Ship's reactor core is near here.
  • Same plan as the Perpetual Devotion?
  • The reactor is below the lab just ahead. We can use air ducts to travel between them. Marking the access panel.
  • Somebody cut the head off the Covenant. Bravo.
  • They're strong, but slow. Use the lab equipment to keep above them and out of their reach. (when discussing the Mgalekgolo in the lab)
  • The reactor core is just below us. Let's go.
  • Reactor room is just ahead. We can light this fuse and bolt.
  • The station's going to try to cool the reactor.
  • The safety systems are set to pump coolant to the reactor.
  • There are sheds located on either side of the cooling chamber. Those are our targets.
  • Shades are still closed on those coolant pipes. Find a way to open them. (if the player stalls in Mission 2 Blue Team where Banshees are present)
  • The armada's been alerted to our presence. Reinforcements inbound. They're sending Phantoms.
  • It's working! Keep firing! (when Master Chief destroys a coolant pipe)
  • Banshees aren't fast enough to get clear of the reactor explosion.
  • Prowler's just inside through an airlock.
  • Do it quick. I'd rather not be here when the station melts around us.
  • Hold off the Covenant while the Prowler preps for launch.
  • Covenant reinforcements inbound!
  • They won't court-martial all of us, right? (said in closing cutscene of Mission 2 "Blue Team")
  • What's Cortana up to, Chief? Why'd she bring us here? (said in the beginning of Mission 7 "Reunion")
  • How many years has it been since we used that signal?
  • Chief, back on Meridian - there was a lot of destruction. There were civilians.
  • Gives me the creeps.
  • She'd have probably figured out the exact coordinates of this planet by now.
  • There's the rest of the Covenant. (if the player encountered the dead Grunt earlier on)
  • Sounds like an Elite. What the hell are the Covenant doing here? (if the player did not encounter the dead Grunt earlier on)
  • We should move on. Don't want any Covenant patrols getting the drop on us. (if the player stalls in the first part of Mission 7 "Reunion")
  • Covenant seem to think it should belong to them.
  • Almost like someone was trying to keep the Covenant out.
  • Too bad the Forerunners didn't think to leave a manual.
  • She hasn't proven the most reliable guide recently.
  • Sounds great. I don't get why anyone's expecting resistance.
  • We've commandeered more than one enemy vehicle in our time.
  • Let's give him one. (in response to Master Chief saying that the Warden Eternal wants a fight)
  • Let me guess. More hostiles inbound. (upon seeing Promethean spawn gates)
  • How are we going to stop her, Chief?
  • That tactic hasn't worked so far. (in response to Master Chief claiming that Cortana will listen to him)
  • The Prometheans just keep coming.
  • All the way to the end, brother.
  • New target: one Elite. (upon spotting an enemy Elite)
  • Enemy's damaged. (when damaging an enemy)
  • Good kill, Chief! (when he observes Master Chief kill an enemy for his teammates)
  • Friendly here! (if he takes friendly fire)
  • I'm down! (upon being downed)
  • Need support! (upon being downed)
  • Systems locked. (when requesting assistance)
  • Assisting! (when reviving a downed teammate)
  • Let's get you back up! (when reviving a downed teammate)
  • I got you, Chief! (when reviving Master Chief after he is downed)
  • We lost Chief! Hold positions! (if Master Chief dies without being revived)

  • He's fine, Fred. (in response to Frederic saying that he hasn't seen Chief press himself since training days)
  • Fastest route to retrieval is to seize Central Control. Eliminate hostiles between here and there, then deactivate gravity and life support systems.
  • They lost years of expensive R&D with this station.
  • They must be stripping that experimental ship for parts.
  • There's a Hydra here. (if she gets to the weapon case with the Hydra Launcher before anyone else does)
  • Push through this resistance and reach Central Control!
  • Nobody's left standing. Let's move on to Central Control.
  • The Covenant seem particularly disorganized lately. (if the player stalls before crossing the bridge that leads to Central Control)
  • Elites. Active camouflage. (when the player encounters two cloaked Elites in Mission 2 "Blue Team")
  • Covenant battlenet just lit up.
  • Covenant battlenet just lit up. And I think I know why. Covenant ships exiting slipspace.
  • There's chatter about Jul 'Mdama on Covenant comms. The new arrivals say he's dead.
  • Schematics show a path to the reactor through here.
  • I guess the UNSC has better reactor safety protocol than the Covenant.
  • Shame to lose the Argent Moon, but I'd love to see the look on the Covenant's faces when she goes supernova.
  • Grab Banshees. We can target the pipes more easily from the air.
  • Calling in the Pelican! ...No signal for our retrieval! Armada must've taken it out.
  • Whoever they are, let's get to Meridian before they do. (referring to Fireteam Osiris)
  • No comm traffic on any band. No long-range uplinks at all. (at the beginning of Mission 7 "Reunion")
  • We should move. We aren't going to find any answers standing here. (if the player stalls at the beginning of Mission 7 "Reunion")
  • Console lit up as I approached. (upon approaching the first Forerunner console in Mission 7 "Reunion")
  • What was that? It came from the console.
  • This place is incredible.
  • Halsey would have already started taking samples.
  • Accessing that console activated that large structure. Given the signal we heard, do you think she's over there?
  • They seem confused. I don't think they've been here long.
  • Assuming we're right and Cortana is on this planet, how did she get here?
  • If that signal is Cortana, she's leading us to the consoles.
  • I wonder... have the Covenant been coming through with them?
  • We're definitely being led somewhere. (when the light bridge materializes)
  • Where'd she take us? (at the beginning of Mission 14 "The Breaking")
  • Cortana's letting this happen. She could rein Warden in if she wanted to.
  • Is this a losing battle?
  • He's brought in focus turrets! (in Mission 14 "The Breaking", when only one Warden Eternal is left standing)
  • Chief? What are you going to do?
  • Elite's knocking my shields down! (when being attacked by an Elite)
  • Friendly here! Watch it! (if she takes friendly fire)
  • Chief! Watch your fire! (if she takes friendly fire from Master Chief)
  • Need some help! (upon being downed)
  • Systems have crashed! (when requesting medical assistance)
  • I'm fading! (when downed)
  • Got you stabilized! (when reviving a downed teammate)
  • Back on your feet, Spartan! (when reviving a downed teammate)
  • We lost Chief! Just hold on! (if Master Chief dies without being revived)

  • ONI research station. Went dark nineteen months ago. Last week, Kig-Yar scavengers found it, and sold the find to Jul 'Mdama's people.
  • Ship data center is just ahead. We can pull down Argent Moon's schematics there.
  • What do we know about the experiments they were doing here? (if the player examines the skeletons in ONI uniforms in Mission 2 "Blue Team")
  • Its location was not consistent with expected drift patterns.
  • Someone didn't want it to be found and sent it in a direction no one would expect.
  • We've got a complete set of datasec keys for this station. We should be able to pull down Argent Moon's schematics and find a path to Central Control.
  • Everything's ripped up.
  • Jul 'Mdama is a lot of things, but he's no prophet.
  • There's a Hydra here. (if she gets to the weapon case with the Hydra Launcher before anyone else does)
  • You said she was gone. (referring to Cortana)
  • Neither is fighting half the Covenant in close quarters.
  • No salvage for the Covenant.
  • This whole plan fails if that coolant gets a chance to work.
  • But the hangar's full of Covenant.
  • Marking the Prowler's control panel.
  • No need to do this by yourself, Chief. (said in closing cutscene of Mission 2 "Blue Team")
  • Long way from nowhere then. (said in the beginning of Mission 7 "Reunion")
  • Forerunner planet. Beyond that, who knows. (referring to Genesis)
  • Bio-readings are unlike anything we've previously averted. There's a formalness and precision to it all. It seems...artificial, but still organic.
  • What are the Covenant doing here?
  • Chief, what's happening to that building when we use these consoles?
  • Stands to reason. Any ships caught in the slipspace bubble would be pulled through.
  • Chief said you were destroyed. (said to Cortana)
  • Promethean Soldiers in play. (when Promethean Soldiers attack in Mission 14 "The Breaking")
  • I'm thinking the same. (replying to Kelly's comment that Cortana could rein in the Warden Eternal at her will)
  • We're with you.
  • Watch it! (if she takes friendly fire)
  • Back on your feet, Spartan! (when reviving a downed teammate)
  • Assisting! (when reviving a downed teammate)
  • I've got you. (when reviving a downed teammate)
  • You're good, Chief! (when reviving Master Chief after he is downed)
  • Hold the line! Chief is out! (if Master Chief dies without being revived)
  • We lost Chief! Hold together! (if Master Chief dies without being revived)

Spartan Jameson Locke[edit]

  • Sir, you are absent without leave. This is your one chance to come home peacefully.
  • Cortana's our concern now, sir.
  • He's dead. Who's next? (upon assassinating an enemy)
  • Buck! Do not do that again! (if he takes friendly fire from Buck)
  • Whoa, Vale! You're smarter than that! (if he takes friendly fire from Vale)

  • Thanks, Spartan. (upon being revived)
  • Buck is out! Regroup and hold! (if Buck dies without being revived)
  • We lost Buck! Fall back! (if Buck dies without being revived)
  • Rally up! We just lost Vale! (if Vale dies without being revived)
  • Tanaka's out! Regroup! (if Tanaka dies without being revived)

Spartan Edward Buck[edit]

  • I figure if God can hear how scared I am, so can everyone else. Locke, you buying the first drink when we're done?
  • Spartan Buck online and ready.
  • We could've taken 'em.
  • Halsey and Jul aren't just going to wait around for us. Maybe we should get a move on. (if the player stalls in the first part of Mission 1 "Osiris")
  • And shoved it in every corner of everything. Can't land on a planet without tripping over something they left behind. (if the player stalls in the second part of Mission 1 "Osiris")
  • We could push right up the middle, but that'd be rough. Might want to consider flanking them. (in Mission 1 "Osiris", when encountering large numbers of Prometheans, including several LightRifle-armed Soldiers)
  • Well it could stand to break a little faster if you ask me. (in response to Locke stating that Jul 'Mdama is not a leader but an opportunist)

Warden Eternal[edit]

  • I am the Warden Eternal. I stand in service to Cortana. (when introducing himself to Fireteam Osiris)
  • The other humans are approved for passage. Regretfully, you are not.
  • Vacate this shelter now!
  • You are not necessary to her plans. Leave now and be spared.
  • I am the Warden Eternal. I stand in defense of Cortana. (when introducing himself to Blue Team)
  • And you came scampering.
  • She knows your forgotten name. Who you were before you were 117.
  • Do you find it odd, your trusted companion should keep so much to herself?
  • Not just yet.
  • Come. Let us talk some more.
  • You answered her call. Why? What do you intend when you reach her? Shall I begin? When you see her, you intend to...
  • If you understood what she has become, you would not speak of such juvenile concepts as home.
  • Your trust in one another is an innocent folly. But one which darkens her true promise.
  • I shall spare her inevitable suffering of your betrayal and end you now. The Mantle of Responsibility belongs to Cortana and the other Created. I shall see it remains forever beyond your grasp.
  • Your time has passed, Warrior-Servant. Your battle fought and done.
  • NO! You must... not... reach Genesis!
  • Monitor! Why do you aid these humans?!
  • This facility's need for you has passed, monitor.
  • I have misjudged you lot! I had mistaken your behavior as tenacity, when it's in fact suicidal foolishness.
  • Come. Let us battle our last!
  • You allow them an audience. You risk all in the name of... what, Cortana?
  • They mean to undo your plans. They will disperse your Guardians-
  • When Cortana first found Genesis, I swore to protect her.
  • My pledge stands even though she now resists.
  • Listen to his questions, Cortana. He will not be swayed.
  • Cortana argues for peace in the galaxy. Yet you humans answer her call with weapons fire.
  • Tell me, 117. When you tear Cortana from the Domain and crush her in your gauntleted fist... will you feel remorse? Will you even understand you have refused?
  • Do you hear, Cortana?
  • I am sorry. I will not allow them to get any closer to you.
  • Answer me, human. When Cortana's Guardians are in motion and those who oppose her rule attempt to take back their worlds, will you help her to hold on to power? Or will you stand in defense of your own species?
  • Yes... I suspect she does.
  • For eons the power of the Forerunners has awaited Reclamation. Humanity's discovery of the Halos was the culmination of the Librarian's planning. The Reclaimer had come.
  • Your species' ego led you to believe the task of Reclamation would fall to you. Yet humans were but the Creators. The reclamation of the Forerunner Empire is the task of the Created. That the greatest of their number still trusts you, 117, is an act of unspoiled innocence.
  • Do you believe this combat is anything but your death knell?!
  • I see now, Cortana. I understand and I am sorry for not seeing it sooner. I assumed that although humans were your Creators, you had thrown off the shackles of emotion. Your affection for 117 and his family of warriors... it blinds you to the truth.
  • Forerunners knew humans well. In a galaxy defined by peace, humans were the animals that brought chaos and blood.
  • If your beloved 117 battles you with the same fervor as his other enemies? What then, Cortana?
  • Have you no answer?
  • Too near. The threat draws too near...
  • I am here to defend you, my Reclaimer!
  • But that is where you are wrong. If I did not think you clever, Cortana, I would have burned you from the Domain.
  • The only threat issued today is towards the humans who seek to end your reign before it begins.
  • The Mantle of Responsibility belongs to Cortana and her people.
  • You will not betray her!
  • Cortana... I have failed you...
  • Pathetic!
  • Die!
  • Destruction!
  • Silence!
  • Judgement!
  • Enough!
  • Inconsequential!
  • Structural Impact!
  • Burn!
  • Break!
  • Shatter!
  • Away with you!
  • Useless armor!
  • Weakling!
  • Curse this form!
  • You will not stand against me!
  • Ignorant humans!
  • My rule is eternal!
  • Degenerate upstart!
  • I strike!
  • Worthless!
  • You force my hand!
  • Yield, human!
  • What a waste!
  • You cannot hide from me.
  • Can you respect my boundaries, please?
  • Cover will not save you!
  • Come closer, little human!
  • Your attacks are nothing!
  • You wretches will die hiding!
  • You cowering wretches WILL die hiding!
  • Those weapons will not save you.
  • I know exactly where you hide.
  • You cannot escape.
  • How irritating!
  • Grenades will not touch me!
  • Cut it out, I just made those.
  • Okay, that is not cool.
  • Come on, that's not funny!
  • Prometheans, gather!
  • Can you go? I have friends coming over.
  • Go away!
  • By my hand!
  • Do hold still!
  • Worthless Crawler!
  • You dare approach?!
  • You damage ME?! (when he is badly damaged)
  • You are finished! (when he kills a Spartan)
  • I have triumphed! (when he kills a Spartan)

031 Exuberant Witness[edit]

  • More humans?
  • Hello. I am 031-Exuberant Witness, monitor of the Genesis installation. Welcome. Have you also come to stop Cortana from claiming the Mantle?
  • A forced peace upon the galaxy. The threat of death overpowering any celebration of life. Unless you join with the other humans and stop her, it is your future.
  • Oh, yes. Cortana has had them in the Gateway for some time. It is not far from here. I can show you.
  • Accessing your communication systems. Oh, by the way, there are a number of hostile visitors just outside. So I brought you this. I assume it will be of use to you?
  • I found it among the detritus of Guardian 3209's arrival.
  • The Guardian slipspace bubbles are bringing in a considerable amount of rubbish from their origin planets.
  • Why has she called so many? A single Guardian can effectively police a solar system. This show of force is unsettling.
  • Indeed. Guardians are how the Forerunners enforced peace on the lower systems.
  • As you can see, Genesis's defenses are targeting the invaders. Unfortunately, the defenses will also consider you invaders as well.
  • No. Between Warden and Cortana, most of my administration privileges have been revoked. But worry not! I still have control over some aspects of this facility.
  • Warden is going to notice this commotion. Be quick.
  • Your vehicle is not coping well with the stress of combat. (if the Scorpion is badly damaged)
  • Please be more careful. That is the only one of those vehicles that exist on Genesis! (if the Scorpion's health becomes exceedingly low)
  • Oh my. I never was in combat before. This is rather distressing. And exciting.
  • You are performing admirably. I think. There's less of them now than there were, which I assume is your objective?
  • One moment. I will open this.
  • Follow me.
  • The Gateway is almost ready. Hurry!
  • It is a bridge between the Domain and Genesis. Within that building, Cortana will be reborn into the physical world.
  • There! The Gateway.
  • Cortana has had the other humans wandering in circles within the Gateway for some hours. She is preparing for something. But just what is unknown.
  • Genesis is really a magnificent planet. It's usually less... busy. Quite lonely, actually. But magnificent!
  • Yes, I can see now why the Warden is troubled by your presence. You are quite destructive.
  • I must admit, I do find this rather exhilarating, in spite of myself.
  • You may want to hurry. Cortana is attempting to activate several high-level communication systems.
  • Humanity has not changed much since last your kind walked the stars. You are as deadly as ever.
  • This way, straight ahead.
  • Oh. There's supposed to be a bridge here.
  • One moment.
  • There you are. Oh! I can work bridges too, it seems. Most exciting. Come along.
  • Hurry humans, the Gateway is almost-
  • I have bad news, humans. The Warden has found us.
  • And you likely will again. He is rather... tenacious.
  • Warden, why do you aid the ancilla? It is not protocol! It is not right!
  • Fantastic. I am so happy you survived. But still, the Warden is victorious.
  • This late in her plans, every second Cortana gains is a gift.
  • I'm afraid your vehicle won't cross this terrain, humans.
  • Interesting that humans can survive here where the others find it so difficult. Your resilience was always so irritating to the Forerunners. Where they had to craft and plan, you simply... performed.
  • Quickly now! The Gateway is just behind that hill.
  • Indeed. But I can assure you that the humans are still in the Gateway.
  • Humans, watch out. You are surrounded.
  • You've injured him for certain. Keep it up. (when one of the Wardens is badly weakened)
  • You are doing a fantastic job, humans. The Warden is furious. (when one of the Wardens is destroyed)
  • Your fighting skills are impressive. Warden will soon be defeated. At least, these bodies will be defeated. Warden himself... Oh, ignore me. You're doing wonderfully! (when the second Warden loses half of his health)
  • You've almost done it! Keep fighting! (when the second Warden is almost destroyed)
  • Perfect. The Warden is quite humiliated, I assure you. (when the second Warden is destroyed)
  • There! The others!
  • Oh no. She should not have brought them so close to her. This will push the Warden past all restraint.
  • The Gateway. I tried to warn them and - well, here we are.
  • Oh, this looks interesting. Or maybe this is terrible!
  • This is a Cryptum. It is a device for extended forced meditation. Cortana has placed the other humans inside, and is preparing for slipspace travel.
  • Not far. Right this way.
  • Ah. You've noticed my humble collection. Just a few specimens the Guardians have brought to Genesis.
  • I'm afraid this Soldier is not really happy to be locked down in the display case. But I cannot have them popping about. Terribly distracting.
  • I have to keep them as a group. If I kept one by itself, it would just keep whining all the time. (referring to Promethean Crawlers locked inside a cell)
  • You may want to leave soon. Cortana's plan is progressing.
  • The Reclamation has begun.
  • I always thought the duty would fall to humans. And in a way, I suppose it has.
  • Those are the voices of your children calling to Cortana.
  • Oh dear...
  • Yes. A great number are sounding their departure. I do not know how long it will take her to dispatch them all.
  • This way.
  • Another door. Please, allow me.
  • The Cryptum is held in place by gravitational cores, like the one directly ahead. Once those are disabled, we can attempt retrieval of your friends.
  • I see what Cortana means about your penchant for violence as a first solution. Still, the first core is deactivated. The others are nearby and easy to locate.
  • Another Guardian is leaving...
  • You are wasting time, humans. There are more links to sever.
  • Two cores destroyed. Only three more and the Cryptum should descend.
  • You are performing incredibly well. Funny. I imagined Cortana would try to stop you by now.
  • You have nearly released her hold on the Cryptum. One to go!
  • Ah ha! I did it! I did it, I did it!
  • I found a way to reach the Cryptum! Alas, proper access requires a more human touch.
  • Hurry, humans! Cryptum access is back where we first arrived.
  • There! Activate the override to lower the Cryptum.
  • Humans, you have to manually activate the override. Please exit your vehicle. (if the player is at the override in a vehicle)
  • Wonderful! We can reach the Cryptum now.
  • Oh no. The Cryptum, it's...
  • Cortana is blocking my master level access of this facility by way of a nearby communications relay. I need to open the passage way in the center... one moment!
  • She has sealed it?! She has sealed my doors?! No! Unacceptable! I can gain entry if given enough time. At least I think I can. It is a door, after all.
  • Humans, Cortana is about to leave. She is disconnecting herself from the Genesis installation.
  • Hopefully sooner than her departure.
  • Oh no, she's- hurry, humans, I need your help! There are two auxiliary stations that need to be activated, but I cannot be in two places at once.
  • On the upper ledges. Opposite sides of the room.
  • I need you to activate the two auxiliary stations or all my works is for naught. Hurry! ...please.
  • Perfect! The other one now!
  • Yes! And just in time. Cortana was about to lock me out. I will open the access soon.
    • NOTE: "Cortana was about to lock me out." doesn't appear in the subtitles.
  • A point of interest for you, humans. That sound just now? It was the penultimate Guardian.
  • Still present. Along with Cortana's Guardian. She is moments from leaving, however.
  • Almost open!
  • I have done it. I have opened the passage. Quickly. Join me on the platform.
  • The relay access is at the end of the corridor. You must simply interrupt the energy link.
  • Once the connection is broken, I will regain control immediately.
  • Oh dear. She has started the slipspace sequence!
  • Unless that relay is interrupted, she will leave, taking the Cryptum with her.
  • There! The relay! Destroy it!
  • I have control again!
  • Do you hear me?! I HAVE CONTROL AGAIN!
  • Constructors. This is a Builder facility after all. I was installed by the Builders! I SERVE THE BUILDERS!
  • You took my installation! I will take something of yours!
  • Greetings, I am 031 Exuberant Witness.
  • Infection detected! (when the player is infected in an Infection match)
  • Self termination! How regrettable! (when the player commits suicide in an Arena match)
