Deprecating lynx[edit]

Can an admin please add the links from {{lynx}} to this UI element so that we can finally start the deprecation process for it? 121a0012 05:35, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't realized we could add general page links to this element. Now that you've brought it up, 121a0012, I notice that most en: projects use this element only to accomodate name changes of standard pages. But I also notice that en:Wikibooks' rather lengthy sidebar is made possible by an elegant grouping and rearrangement of standard and custom links. Perhaps we could do this for Wikiquote, getting rid of the {{lynx}}-footer workaround that has served us for over 2 years, but which adds to the burden of maintain and synchronizing pages. (Pardon the backstory, but other readers may not be aware of the issue.)
If I read it right, adding a vertical version of the current version of lynx would entail adding something like the following to this MediaWiki page:
  • Wikiquote links
    • List of people by name|People
    • List of literary works|Literary works
    • Category:Proverbs|Proverbs
    • List of films|Films
    • List of television shows|TV shows
    • List of themes|Themes
    • Special:Categories|Categories
I don't know if the Categories link would work as shown, as I found no equivalent use of this Special page in the other projects I checked, but I suspect there is a way to do this even if this one doesn't work.
I think we should discuss this before we make such a change, though. There are a number of issues we should consider, like:
  • Do we want to just tack on this section, or restructure it like Wikibooks did, separating functions into several groups?
  • Are we okay with pushing down the Search and Toolbox elements by adding these Sidebar elements?
  • Do we want to review which "Wikiquote links" we include in this list, given the changes in Wikiquote since it was first created?
Of course, we don't need to settle all these things before we implement something, but this is probably the time to get the discussion started, and in a more public forum than this talk page. (I doubt there are more than a handful of folks watching this page.) But now that you've given us a means to accomplish this long-desired fix, I have hope that we can tackle it in the near future. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 06:39, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the changes Jeff Q proposed... but no one has talked about this in months.... Alas, it may just stay after all. Hopefully, Jeff is watching this page. :) Cbrown1023 talk 19:57, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The English Wikipedia agreed a change in its sidebar in December, then reverted it within a day because of problems. Caution is always advised. Fys. “Ta fys aym”. 20:09, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If we do do this, we should just make this an empty template (not delete it) and then make a bot run to remove all the templates. Cbrown1023 talk 12:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Updated[edit]

I have changed the page based on the above and think it looks pretty well. Please comment on it. Cbrown1023 talk 20:22, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization of the P in Community Portal[edit]

The page title is currently with capital P while the sidebar point to a page with a lowercase p. --Palosirkka (talk) 15:01, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
