Samar Al-Shishkli is a Syrian writer, translator, and poet.

	- "Since its inception and until today, translation has played an active role in the cultural construction of nations and in renewing the capabilities of the mind, opening it to the movement of global culture. It is a crucial axis that contributes to the activity and renewal of thought, playing a significant role in communication between civilizations. Translation also serves as an important channel for revitalizing cultural exchange, or what is known as ‘mutual cultural influence’ between peoples and nations. Through translation, people become acquainted with each other’s customs, traditions, ideas, literature, behaviors, and history, as well as their landscapes and geography. Hence, the importance of translation is evident in introducing the ‘Other’."
	ان الترجمة تؤدي منذ أن عرفت , وإلى اليوم , دوراً فاعلاً في البناء الثقافي للأمم ، وفي تجديد قدرات العقل وانفتاحه على حركة الثقافة العالمية، فهي محور مهم تساهم في نشاط الفكر وتجدده،وتلعب دوراً كبيراً في التواصل بين الحضارات كما تشكل قناة هامة لتنشيط التواصل الثقافي او ما يسمى المثاقفة بين الشعوب والأمم؛ لأنه من خلالها يتعرف الناس إلى عادات بعضهم البعض، إلى أعرافهم، وتقاليدهم، وأفكارهم، وآدابهم، وسلوكهم، وتاريخهم، بل حتى تضاريسهم، وجغرافيتهم من هنا تبدو أهمية الترجمة قوية في التعريف بالآخر.

"Professions have shared general ethics, and each profession has its own specific ethics derived from the uniqueness of the work. In the field of translation, a translator must possess a set of qualities that fall under the category of translator ethics or translation ethics. These include a set of objective rules and personal dispositions. Given the importance of this matter, translators' associations publish ethical guidelines for translators and require their members to adhere to them, such as the American Translators Association and the International Federation of Translators, in order to preserve the profession of translation and avoid errors. Among the most prominent of these rules are: objectivity and neutrality, accuracy in work, professionalism and integrity in translating content, adherence to the timeline specified by the agreement, confidentiality of sensitive information, diligence and follow-up in skill development, not offering or accepting low rates as a form of undercutting, and respecting fellow translators while maintaining good relationships with them."

للمهن أخلاقيات عامة مشتركة ، ولكل مهنة اخلاقياتها الخاصة تنبع من خصوصية العمل. وفي مجال الترجمة يجب أن يمتلك المترجم مجموعة من الصفات التي تندرج تحت مسمى أخلاقيات المترجم أو أخلاقيات الترجمة، وهي مجموعة من القواعد الموضوعية والاستعدادات الذاتية، ونظرا لأهمية الأمر فإن جمعيات المترجمين تقوم بنشر قواعد أخلاقية للمترجمين وتلزم أعضائها بمراعاتها، مثل جمعية المترجمين الأميركية والاتحاد الدولي للمترجمين،حفاظا على مهنة المترجم وتجنب الأخطاء، ومن أبرز هذه القواعد : الموضوعية والحياد، الدقة في العمل، الاحتراف والنزاهة في ترجمة المحتوى، الالتزام بالإطار الزمني الذي يحدده الاتفاق، عدم الكشف عن المعلومات السرية، الحرص والمتابعة في تنمية المهارات ، عدم تقديم أو قبول أسعار منخفضة كنوع من المضاربة، احترام الزملاء المترجمين والمحافظة على علاقات جيدة معهم.

	"In general, the main difficulty facing the translator is the issue of culture. Each language and culture has its own verbal connotations and linguistic structures, and the translator must find what appropriately conveys the meaning in the target language, rather than translating word for word, as this would not do justice to the meaning. The translator must first capture the meaning in the source language and also understand what is implied between the lines."
	بالعموم الصعوبات التي تعترض المترجم هو قضية الثقافة، فهناك دلالات لفظية وتركيبات لغوية خاصة بكل لغة وثقافة على حدى، وعلى المترجم أن يجد ما يناسب المعنى في اللغة المنقول إليها، وليس أن يترجم كلمة بكلمة، فهذا لن يعطي المعنى حقه، وعليه أولاً أن يرصد المعنى في اللغة المنقول منها، وكذلك فهم ما ورد ما بين السطور.
