蒋介石就在１９３１年１０月７日的日记中这样写：

“此次对日作战，其关系不在战斗之胜负，而在民族精神之消长，与夫国家人格之存亡也。余固深知我国民固有之勇气与决心早已丧失殆尽，徒凭一时之兴奋，不具长期之坚持，非惟于国无益，而且反速其亡。默察熟虑，无可恃也。而余所恃者在我一己之良心与人格，以及革命精神与主义而已。是故余志已决，如果倭寇逼我政府至于绝境，迫我民族至无独立生存之余地，则成败利钝自不暇顾，只有挺然奋起，与之决一死战，恃我一己之牺牲，以表示我国家之人格，以发扬民族之精神。 ”

“俄党对中国之唯一方针，乃在造成中国共产党为其正统，决不信吾党可与之始终合作，至其对中国之 政策，在满、蒙、回、藏诸部，皆为其苏维埃之一，而对中国本部，未始无染指之意。 “ １９２４年３月１４日，他从奉化给一个国民党高级官员发了一封信，信中写道.
