Start adding quotes[edit]

This is meant to be a collection of every bloody quote from the games. To do so violates fair use.--DooMDrat 17:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unless you are a lawyer or Federal Judge you cannot say that with any certainty.—This unsigned comment is by 98.108.79.94 (talkcontribs) .
What nonsense. See Wikiquote:Copyrights. How the hell could the page feature even most (let alone all) of the stuff said, and still be fair use?--Drat 06:10, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lame. None of these quotes are _ORIGINALLY_ from Duke Nukem, they are all borrowed from past campy movies and general pop culture, so quit already with the copyright worries. Listing quotes isn't a violation of copyright anyway. FYI the "shit down your neck" quote is from the 1983 Eddie Murphy movie "Trading Places", it was said by actor Paul Gleason as Clarence Beeks.

I beg to differ. Ginbot86 04:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have that right, but that doesn't mean you are right. Policy is policy.--DooMDrat 14:25, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the line i got balls of steel was said by duke nukem not by the guy from gta ( as some have thought)

You're either a site for quotes or not, make up your damn mind.If you don't want every duke quote then don't bother with a fucking wiki.—This unsigned comment is by 195.226.159.147 (talkcontribs) .

Just because it's a site for quotes doesn't mean that it has to have every quote. It doesn't negate the copyright issue.--Drat 11:00, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I will be removing some. 76.101.72.59 22:49, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

12 fuck you

Do the games themselves violate "fair-use"?.. Seems about half of the quotes here are borrowed or adapted from other works. Don't think anyone would mind, either, it serves as a useful memento for fans. If they did mind, they'd be editing the page themselves, or something.

This is excessive.[edit]

Do we need every single line of his from the game? This is over the top.--DooMDrat 04:17, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Agree. We should maybe work out the most relevant ones --Hydrox 18:18, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I can see your point, the list is getting huge isn't it? Excessive?I don't think so.. mebbe what would be cool was actually dividing the quotes according to the game in which they're said.
      • Disagree. The more the better. Ginbot86 04:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • Disagree. Indeed the game is made mostly of quotes, most of them are famous for my generation. There isn't a single line that I read and that I do not remember or that I do not use if I have occasion and people listening me normally get the quote, so they should be listed here for reference of those that, the game, did not played. Regards 213.140.15.160 16:54, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • I'm sorry, but copyright comes first. There are many cleanup efforts ongoing that aim to trim the everloving crap out various pages here, due to the copyright problem. The fact that there isn't exactly books worth of quotes in the Duke Nukem games is no excuse to list even half of them.--Drat 12:42, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"No *insert* steals our chicks [...][edit]

It says "Nobody steals our chicks... and lives", but i remember that it used to be "No alien bastard steals our chicks [...]". I edited it once, but someone put the first line back into it. -Armor Nick

Actually, no it's not. The alien b****** part is from the shootin' up my ride quote.

Quoting quotes?[edit]

Also, a lot of these quotes are actually from other sources (Evil Dead and other 80s horror/action flicks especially). I want to say that the "...and I'm all out of gum" line is from CHUD 2, but I don't want to see CHUD 2 again to confirm. Is there a way we could note the references? -Rick Flick

It was "They Live", not CHUD 2.

Nooooooo... That line is from Duke Nukem 3D. I played that game YEARS ago and I clearly remember it!!! At the start of the Hollywood Holocaust mission, duke nukem DOES say "it's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum....... " -- Faried (ZA)

Nooooo... That line is from They Live, a 1988 film, which predates both C.H.U.D. II: Bud the C.H.U.D. (1989) and the Duke Nukem series (1991 and beyond). (Unless They Live borrowed it from something even earlier, that is.) ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:37, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This line is orignally from They Live but Duke does pay homage to this one liner at the start of the Hollywood Holocaust mission.

It's not Hollywood Holocaust. It's Raw Meat. E3L1. - deThbaTe

Needs better organization.[edit]

There are too many quotes from other Duke Nukem games in the Duke Nukem 3d section. I moved all (I think all) the Manhattan Project ones, can someone familiar with the other games move the others?

There are too many quotes period. Pretty much every line is here. It needs to be cut down by at least half. See the tag at the top of this talk page.--DooMDrat 07:35, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we should cut it down...why have only half of those wonderful one-liners if we can have them all? Mebbe the right thing to do is to divide the page and create a different page for each Duke Nukem game:O dunno really..
No, in terms of fair use, there are way too many quotes from each work. If they were split to different articles, those would need to be trimmed. You can only have so much from each work.--DooMDrat 16:58, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Massive article trimming[edit]

I've deleted most of the "quotes" in this article, not only to avoid blatant copyright violation, but also because most of the lines in this game are utterly unoriginal and/or merely variations on common quotes and quotes borrowed from other famous works. There are no doubt many fansites that are not concerned with copyright laws and have no qualms about incorporating every single line, but the Wikimedia Foundation that operates (and pays for) this website does not permit entire transcriptions of any works, including electronic games. Wikiquote's purpose is to collect a modest set of notable quotes for each subject. Please be extremely selective in what you add here. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 07:34, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Totally agreed. While there have been some good additional edits, many of new editings made the article worse and back to the status before your trimming, I reverted it to the revision as of 17:24, 5 April 2007. There are many anons who may have paid no attention to this discussion and worriness, I'd even love to protect the article. --Aphaia 17:26, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all outta gum![edit]

I think this is the most important one. Why isn't it there? --80.63.213.182 23:03, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's his own favorite quote. Source. --80.63.213.182 23:14, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I certainly find this to be one of the more humorous ones. It's now added. --Meinsla 20:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quotes[edit]

There are many more of Duke's lines that are missing here. You can add them. I mean, not EVERY line, but some others that are, if not more, equally funny than the ones listed here.

Even 50% or 40% of the lines would be too much for fair use.--DooMDrat 13:16, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous Coward: From Duke Nukem 3D: Duke standing in front of a 'Duke Nukem pinball machine', and when you touch it, says 'Aint got time, to play with myself'. Hilarious.

Are some of these made up?[edit]

Ive played through the game a few times and dont recognize some of the 3D ones like Duketh Kicketh Ass or wahtever; nor the good cigar/badwoman one. im not removing them but are they actually from 3D or a diff game?

Quotes:

Eat shit and die...

I'll rip off your head and shit down your neck...

I got balls of steel...

Time too kick ass and chew bubblegum... and im all outta gum

Blow it out ya' ass

They are all from the game. "Time too kick ass and chew bubblegum... and im all outta gum" is a reference to They Live and it is the first thing that Duke says in the 3rd episode.

Permission for quotes[edit]

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/User_talk:84.237.120.114 «I missed your message RE: Duke Nukem as I haven't been on Wikiquote for a while. The quotes are copyrighted and can only be used under Fair Use. Excess quotes would be a violation of copyright.--DooMDrat 12:14, 26 May 2007 (UTC)»[reply]

IMHO, you're trying to fight with air - there is many-manu-many users who add quotes anyway. Maybe it is not a bad idea make a official public request (with duplicate answer on the official site) to 3DRealms for permission to add every quotes from Duke Nukem 3D?.. I'll think you're all tried to delete "excess quotes". Guest —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.237.120.114 (talkcontribs) 20:32, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

about duke nukem forever quotation....[edit]

...it is from December 18th but we should mention what year it was. Because of the well-known foreverness of DN:F this information could act quite important.

What 'bout Duke Nukum 1?[edit]

The only quote i heard was "I'll Kick your butt and get home in time for oprah." and it said "T" For bad language?

2011 teaser quotes[edit]

Can somebody update the page?

"Why do they always take the hot ones?"

"I'd still hit it" <-- that one wins

"Rest In Pieces"

"What? Did You Think I Was Gone Forever?"

"Hail To The King,Baby"

"Ill rip out your eyes and piss on your brain"

Manhattan Project[edit]

Hey guyz. Is there some original quotes, not from other parts of franchise?
