Talk:Full Metal Jacket

This article falls within a proposed limits on quotations policy.

The subject of this article is a film, and as a result, the proposal would set a limitation of five quotes per hour (about one quote every 12 minutes).

If you would like to add another quote to the page, you should consider whether to remove one that is already there in order to keep within the bounds of fair use of copyright material.
For reference, the length of this work is: 116 minutes.

guys, how can you not have this quote here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093058/quotes?qt0475804

The question of emphasis[edit]

One or more users continue to edit this article with emphasis markup and impressionistic narration (e.g. "he holds the donut like a dead rat"). I suppose these users want reading the article to be the same experience as watching the movie. This is a hopeless goal. If someone wants the experience of watching the movie, they have to watch the movie. If the quotations without markup are bland, then perhaps they are not very significant quotations (i.e. "witty, pithy, wise, eloquent, or poignant"), despite being significant theatrical performances. 24.7.14.87 05:07, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Editors continue to toss in narration and emphasis. I continue to remove it, because this is still Wikiquote and not Wikitheater. By the above-cited quotability standards, the very presence of many of the quotes on this page is questionable. Through all this, none of the editors(?) restoring the narration and emphasis have bothered to make any case here for it. 24.7.14.87 07:21, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed exception to the quote limit guideline[edit]

As I have stated before, the quote limit guideline cited as the reason for removing many quotes from this page is merely a proposed policy that has never been formally adopted. While I do agree that there are certainly times when we need to control the amount of cruft that appears on many pages (particularly on TV show pages, where the bloat can become extreme), that guideline also allows for exceptions when a work has a sufficient number of memorable quotes or is considered a "classic". I believe that this film qualifies on both counts and that we should allow more quotes on its page. See for example the page for Casablanca as an example. I do not believe that any of the quotes that have been repeatedly removed are unmemorable or do not belong there. I also do not wish to perpetuate an edit war by continuing to add them back. If we simply blindly enforce strict limits without considering each case individually, I believe we are not serving our community in the best way possible. And again, the guideline is proposed, not a formal policy. To this end, I propose that this film be granted an exception to the guideline and be permitted to have more than the limited number of quotes prescribed by that guideline.
