Deletion debate

[edit]

This article was nominated for deletion; the result of the discussion at Wikiquote:Votes for deletion/Ma Anand Sheela was that it was kept for lack of consensus to delete, three votes on each side. However, it was generally agreed that the article needs work, including the reduction of non-quoteworthy material. BD2412 T 17:35, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup tag

[edit]

What "non-quoteworthy material" should be removed? What are suggestions for other sourced quotes to add? Input on these matters would be appreciated. Thank you, -- Cirt (talk) 05:52, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Although the abovementioned deletion discussion did not reach consensus regarding the entire page, there was a slight majority indicating that material in the "Quotes about" section, at least, is not suitable for Wikiquote. I suggest removing that section. I would also suggest removing, at least, the "Further reading" section which seems to be well covered at, and more suitable for, Wikipedia. ~ Ningauble 20:41, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Contrary to my opinion on 'About' quotes for works (see Talk:My Life in Orange), I believe these quotes can serve a purpose for people pages. That being said, I do not believe that any of the 'About' quotes on this page should remain. None rise to the level of being quotable or of truly shedding any light on this person. ~ UDScott 21:06, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I am dubious about these, but only one jumps out as really unquotable: "After pleading guilty to immigration fraud, wiretapping, engineering a salmonella outbreak, arson, and assault on local officials, Ma Anand Sheela, Rajneesh's second-in-command, served about three years in a U.S. prison". That is simply a dry and encyclopedic recitation of the facts. BD2412 T 01:02, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, BD2412, for pointing out a specific quote. I have gone ahead myself and taken the initiative to voluntarily remove that quote. I'd appreciate it if going forward, we can discuss specific quotes. Thank you, -- Cirt (talk) 06:02, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I actually believe that my comment was quite specific - I said that I did not believe any of the quotes should remain. ~ UDScott 14:30, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately I respectfully and strongly disagree with that, let us try to move forward on a compromise solution, and discuss some of the quotes individually. It would also be helpful to suggest additional quotes to add, in lieu of some of those discussed. Thank you, -- Cirt (talk) 17:09, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removed above two from further reading sect, making a good faith attempt at compromise, -- Cirt (talk) 18:08, 10 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

(This was not so much a removal of these items as a re-addition of other content that was previously removed.)

My opinion, as previously remarked here (before it was conveniently removed to an archive when the content was re-added), is that "I would also suggest removing, at least, the 'Further reading' section which seems to be well covered at, and more suitable for, Wikipedia." I think this is a matter of the type of content, not the quantity thereof. ~ Ningauble (talk) 18:31, 14 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

My opinion is that I also feel such sections are not appropriate for our site and fully endorse their removal. ~ UDScott (talk) 18:37, 14 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
I would appreciate it if we could come to a compromise solution to this. -- Cirt (talk) 22:12, 14 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
