Guthlac quote & Matthew 24:20
[edit]@Rich Farmbrough: have been exploring Quote you identified for Guthlac and I have been exploring within the remit of my local spiritual director Matthew 24:20 at Douay-Rheims Challoner revision which is compliant for me without Philip dispensation. I have also been incarnating wikidata items in support. If I have this correct you originally placed the quote as:
- "Let not your flight be in the-winter, or on the sabbath-day" at Special:Diff/3286805
- There was also some context present at this revision: "His transition occurred when the following words were constantly on his mind"
- "Let not your flight be in the winter, nor on the sabbath-day." in my correction at Special:Diff/3287113 to match the source you supplied: D. C. O. Adams (1901) (in en), The saints and missionaries of the Anglo-Saxon era, 2, Oxford: A. R. Mowbray & Co., p. 5, Wikidata Q118162723, OCLC 8698576
- By this time the context seems to have been lost.
- "But pray that your flight be not in the winter, or on the sabbath." is a (Douay-Rheims, Challoner) translation of Mathew 24:20
Pray then the source for this quote is surely Saint Matthew and this may not be an original quote attributable to Guthlac? Any thoughts? -- DeirgeDel tac 11:05, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes it is indeed, as I had subsequently discovered, nonetheless it is something attributable to Guthlac. The context is, of course, everything. Many thanks for bringing this up. Bonus thanks for the Wikidata items. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 17:20, 24 May 2023 (UTC).
