Bias[edit]

This page is very biased, the main editor is also very biased towards him. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 12:14, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How so? These are quotes from him published in reliable sources or from recent posts from his blog. It seems not much different than pages such as Noam Chomsky. I wound point out the lack of bolding within quotes makes this page less biased than others, as bolding parts of quotes that editors most agree with is a form of editorializing.--C.J. @C.J. Griffin: The content itself is stuff he said, but some of it is phrased to sound like an objective statement. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 12:45, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Some of the quotes I included are lengthy in order to ensure his statements are not taken out of context. This is preferable I believe to just a sentence or two here and there. This and the lack of bolding mentioned before in my view makes this article more balanced than other entries on individuals with views considered by some to be outside the mainstream.--C.J. @C.J. Griffin: The quotes are fine, I am referring to the image captions. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 12:57, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I really don’t see the problem here. These are just quotes already included in the article. Not really different than numerous other articles of greater significance that have images with captions based on quotes already included in the text, like the capitalism article for example. C.J. @C.J. Griffin: Most other image captions say that it is a quote, these don't, implying that they're stating a fact. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 13:05, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If I may add my two cents: I do not see an issue with this either - it is fairly common practice to have quotes as captions for images on pages - and it does not require some indication that they are quotes (although my usual preference is to list the source of the quote beneath it in the caption, which would make it more obvious that it is a quote). ~ UDScott (talk) 13:08, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@C.J. Griffin: I think they should *always* be listed as a quote in some way. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 13:09, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I’ll have to refer to the Noam Chomsky article, which includes images with cations no different than here. Should every image caption on this page include quote marks with Best’s name following them? It seems pretty obvious that these are statements from the subject of the article. If that would resolve the issue then fine I guess, but seems excessive and not consistent with other pages on individual persons. C.J. Griffin (talk) 13:12, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, they should, most articles with images I've seen do that. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 13:17, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Quote marks are unnecessary - and in general are not used anymore on the site. Having the source (with the work from which the quote is taken, not just listing the author's name) listed should suffice. ~ UDScott (talk) 13:28, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well I didn’t say that captions with quotes should have quotes, I just said that they should say that they are a quote. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 13:34, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I have implemented UDScott's suggestion above. Better now?--C.J. Griffin (talk) 13:42, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, closing discussion. – Ilovemydoodle (talk / e-mail) 13:45, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
