Reorganization and major corrections
[edit]I've done some major reorganization and corrections of the material here. UDScott did an excellent job restructuring the IMDb quote set into a Wikiquote format to create this article, but unfortunately, the raw material included all of IMDb's wording and punctuation errors and total lack of chronological order. (That's a big problem with IMDb — it has the same anyone-can-contribute philosophy as Wikiquote, but it's much easier to add than to correct, and there is little if any fact-checking by the IMDb staff who screen contributions.)
All quotes from the movie are in the Dialogue section now, with a few notable ones also cited at the top under character headings. (This way, the article serves two purposes well: to provide the most notable one-liners, and to show where in the film and in what context every single quote is.)
I also took some trouble to flesh out some dialog segments to counteract the proliferation of erroneous quotes on other websites. I assure readers that what is in the article as of this moment is as close as I can get to the exact wording and phrasing of the film (as shown on the Superman II DVD). ~ Jeff Q (talk) 14:15, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
- Jeff -- you did a wonderful job in getting the quotes right and I'm glad you had better source material. This is a much better representation of the film. Do you have any recommendations on better quote sources for films? Sometimes I am able to find the actual script, but other times, I am left only with IMDB (which, as you said, has its limitations) or reviewing the film. Just wondering...UDScott 14:31, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks, UDScott! To summarize what I've just posted on your talk page:
- IMDb is the best of a bad lot, since they have a screening staff (even though it's understaffed).
- Google-searching for known exact phrases often leads to accurate transcriptions, which can also be used as the starting point of a Wikiquote article. (Excerpts only, though!)
- If you use an original source (like DVD or uncut recording) to get a known exact quote, you might as well continue on to organize and verify the quotes you do find.
- Scripts are useful, but are often wrong in places due to on-set changes. (You'd be amazed how different dialog from Firefly and Blackadder scripts sometimes are from the actual episodes!)
- Thanks, UDScott! To summarize what I've just posted on your talk page:
Recommend splitting
[edit]I believe the two versions of the film should be split into two pages (with references to each other in a 'See also' section). This would allow for proper formatting of them based on the film template. ~ UDScott 21:33, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
