This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Tenth Doctor page.

This article falls within a proposed limits on quotations policy.

The subject of this article is a television show, and as a result, the proposal would set a limitation of one quote for less than 30 minutes, two quotes for 30 minute shows, and five quotes for 60 minute shows (see our TV policy for shows of other lengths).

If you would like to add another quote to the page, you should consider whether to remove one that is already there in order to keep within the bounds of fair use of copyright material.
For reference, the length of this work is: 60 min.


Gridlock-The Face of Boe[edit]

This article mentions the following quotes from the season 3 episode Gridlock.

" [The Face of Boe passes on his great secret:] 

   The Face of Boe: Everything has its time. You know that, old friend, better than most.
   Hame: The legend says more.
   The Doctor: Don't, there's no need for that.
   Hame: It says that the Face of Boe will speak his final secret to a traveller.
   The Doctor: Yeah, but not yet; who needs secrets, eh?
   The Face of Boe: I have seen so much, perhaps too much. I am the last of my kind, as you are the last of yours, Doctor.
   The Doctor: That's why we have to survive, both of us. Don't go.
   The Face of Boe: I must, but know this, Time Lord: You are not alone. [dies] "

The phrase "Time Lord: You are not alone" links to the season three episode Utopia, about another Time Lord called the Master. That is the problem I have with the section. Yes the Master is another Time Lord, but he isn't the only other Time Lord, don't forget that the Doctor's daughter is still alive. Also The Face of Boe just says that the Doctor isn't alone. Although implied that he is the not the last of his species, it could be referring to the family he has built on Earth. Rose and her family, Martha, Donna's family, Harriet Jones, Captain Jack, Sarah Jane Smith...

Catchphrase[edit]

A catchphrase is a phrase or expression used often by a character(s). The Ninth Doctor's catchphrase was, "Fantastic!" and the Tenth Doctor's catchphrases are "Allons-y", "Brilliant" and "i'm sorry, i'm so sorry" ". The Eleventh Doctor says "Geronimo,". The Flesh Doctor also had one "Wowzer"

Ninth/Tenth/Eleventh Doctor quote pages[edit]

There is a separate page for Ninth Doctor quotes. To clarify which quotes go where, the Tenth Doctor first appears in the episode, "The Parting of the Ways". Since the Ninth Doctor appears in that episode, also, the episode's quotes appear on both the Ninth Doctor and Tenth Doctor pages. Quotes from episodes prior to this episode belong either on the Ninth Doctor page or one of the previous Doctors listed on the main Doctor Who page.

OR we could add " Molto Bene!" he says that quite a lot, along with "Allons-y!"


Eleventh Doctor says "Geranimo" a lot and he also says "I wear a Fez now, Fezzes are cool."

Don't quote the whole script![edit]

I just cleaned up a bit in the 'The Family Of Blood' part. I really appreciate fandom etc., but it is getting WAY out of hand. Looking at the page, you see almost the entire script of the episode, which cannot be possible anything else than a blatant copyright violation. I strongly suggest keeping the episode parts small and only quote the most remarkable statements (of which there still are a lot!) --Stupiddog 18:11, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed quotes[edit]

I've removed some quotes and added a few more memorable ones - the length of the page is getting ridiculous - it's the fifteenth largest page, so I'll be heading onto doing the rest of Series 2 and 3. Will {talk) 15:23, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 15kb removal of quotes is still a bit arbitrary. As I've said, one of the removed quotes, "The call came from across the stars, "Come to Utopia"." is quite important - the BBC even used it on their episode page. The quotes are supposed to be memorable, such as Donna's "Get me to the church" spiel or the Master's grits quote, which definitely are. Will {talk) 16:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so restore those quotes you feel need to be there, but to revert the whole edit is counterproductive, surely. I removed only what seemed pointless (How many times do characters get told to run? Scottish in Tooth and Claw[edit]

In context, It's the stereotypical Scottish phrase, like "och aye". Mirrored by Martha saying "Verily, forsooth, egads". I have no clue what it means either. Will {talk) 02:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"' Verily forsooth egads basically means roughly, " I tell no lies. Trust my word." Because verily means truth and honesty, forsooth means spoken trusted word. Egads means hi, or a sort of 'I'm talking'.'"

Hoots, according to the "The Scots Dialect Dictionary" compiled by Alexander Warrack, MA, ISBN 1-85079-189-9.
 Hoot, Hoots, int. and excl. of doubt, contempt, irritation, dissatisfaction
 --v. to pooh-pooh, discredit, doubt.
 Mon, n. man, a term of address.

Put the two together and you get a phrase expressing contempt for or annoyance with someone. That is based on the most educated guess I can put forth in my experience with the Scots dialect. I have not seen the episode but will endeavor to find and watch it so I can get a better feeling.

I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.[edit]

There is a few examples of "I'm sorry" where the Doctor doesn't say "I'm so sorry." In the second Age of Steel one he says "I'm sorry." In Love & Monsters he does the same. Also in the Runaway Bride. In Blink, he said "I'm sorry, I am very very sorry." So, discuss.

Help from those who own the DVDs?[edit]

I've fixed stuff up to the Shakespeare Code. Those with the DVDs of Season 2 can see the subtitles, so maybe you can help clear up the following?

  • School Reunion, "You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone that you lo-" Does he really say "lo-" or does he stop at "you-"?

He stops at you, but with the beginnings of the word love on his lips. Its like: "to someone you-" (followed by the phonic of lowercase 'L')

  • School Reunion, swimming pool scene. The article said "a million widows" in one day. I think it's "a million witters", referring to the beating of wings. Problem is, it's quite possible I've made the word 'witter' up as I can't find it in any dictionary. Help?
  • The Satan Pit, Doctor about to drop into the abyss. "She'd know" or "She knows"?

I don't have the DVDs, but I can remember some stuff distinctly. (I've watched through the entire second season very recently)

"Anyway..." and "Oh Yes!!"[edit]

Do these really count as catchphrases? Not only are they not exactly that common in the series, but they're also not uncommon in day to day life. Should they be included?


I'd say the same for "Don't do that" and "That's impossible". They're not really catchphrases.


If you ask ME, "That's impossible" Is common enough to be discounted, but the "Don't do that" he does say in a certain way, you know?

I think "oh yes" is because he says it all the time, especially in the third series.

Catchphrases[edit]

No matter how many times you add it, "What? What?!? WHAT?!?!?", "That's Impossible", and "Don't do that (Don't)" are not catchphrases! Just because he's said it more than once doesn't mean it's a catchphrase. WHAT, Don't and Oh yes are all catchphrase, as there so common in that special tone of voice he uses that there included in the drinking game.

I agree about the "WELL" for catchphrases. He says it all the time. And the "What? What!" one, that come up a lot. But definitly the "WELL" ~OctoberHoliday

Well I think you can probably all agree that "allons-y" is his signature catch phrase. Just thought I'd mention that since people might actually want to know about his catchphrases, and the main one never even came up.

"Well" definitely counts as a catchphrase.

Ditto the above. Family of Blood, Latimer's quote: should be 'centre of time'- a British script wouldn't use an American spelling.

Small typo but I can't edit, in "Doomsday" the top of the fifth quotation has the direction: [The Doctor appears in from of Rose in a translucent form], it should read [The Doctor appears in *front* of Rose in a translucent form]. Bioman35353 (talk) 19:54, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tea and Grits[edit]

Series 3 Episode 12 "The Sound of Drums" has a brilliant quote which should not be omitted. The Master says to the American president something like Would you like some tea? The Biggest Family on Earth[edit]

I'm quite bemused at the fact that Sarah Jane's parting words to the Doctor at the end of Journeys End aren't included: "You know, you act like such a lonely man, but look at you! You've got the biggest family on Earth!" - to me at least, it really summed up the story, that he's got whole worlds of people out there who love or loved him. I found it then further supported by Wilf's moving scene with him and "I'll look up at the sky and think of you". His family just keeps on growing and growing. The Children in Need Special

I think that this quote should be added to the Children in Need Special section.

It's the first moment Rose begins to come to terms with the fact that this man MAY be the Doctor. So it's an important one!

I think that there are many good phrases in the episode "Smith and Jones"... Norwegian[edit]

Rose: "Dårlig". It's Norwegian for bad. This translates as "Bad Wolf Bay". How long have we got?

The technical translation is "Bad Wolf Beach"

The Doctor Who pages have been edited by numerous fans, over many months, and apparently only one of these has on several occasions objected to the inclusions of images, which have been selected out of the limited options of those related to Doctor Who presently available at the Wikimedia commons. I believe it should be. As lets face it genders generaly have diffrent views. Some are Fem nite whores others act like guys. Some guys act like girls. So truely it does matter.

Voyage of the Damned - Correction[edit]

OK, so I've just watched voyage of the damned, and as I did think that one of the quotes here doesn't make much sense, right there in the beginning when he talks to the Host, I listened closely, and I'm pretty sure it's not:

The Doctor: Good! So, tell me then clum idiot, where are we from?

but:

The Doctor: Good! So, tell me then - 'cos I'm an idiot - where are we from?

Need for more registration and input by Doctor Who editors — and others.[edit]

I encourage many of the people who have edited here, or at other pages, whether related to Doctor Who or not, to register a username so as to more effectively voice opinions and to be able to vote in major issues that occur on the wiki in the months and years to come.

At the Village Pump I raised the issue of a need to expand potentials and lessen restrictions on this and other pages. I believe that there is need for extensive discussion and eventually a vote on this matter, within a few months.

I intend to gradually do extensive work on the Doctor Who pages in coming months — adding airdates and links, and doing minor cleanup work. I don't plan to actually add many quotes to the articles initally, but eventually might do so, as I review past episodes of the series in the coming year. I encourage anyone interested in developing the Doctor Who pages more extensively to register a user account here, so as to have more effective influence on policy decisions which need to be confronted in coming months regarding existing guidelines and limitations that have been promoted regarding quotes from TV shows and films, including those of Doctor Who. ~ Kalki (talk · contributions) 06:46, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
