Howard Zinn did not refer to a movement after his death

  1. With respect, the quote you removed shows context... 38 years ago Howard Zinn pointed out that Capitalism was beginning to fail for the middle classes. Most world observers would say that it has in the last few decades, definitely failed the middle classes & the world, and pose a threat to all life on this earth for the sake of profits. Clearly many people from all walks of life have had enough of that failed system.
  2. Capitalism has always been a failure for the lower classes. It is now beginning to fail for the middle classes. Howard Zinn A People's History of the United States, Chapter 23 (1980)
  3. Also, Your removal of the list (below for anyone interested) claiming that it is "mostly tangential or entirely unrelated" is what some would call the opinion of one siding against these freedom fighters. The Revolutionary groups listed were/are fighting for principles, basic human rights, fighting against forces listed that celebrate greed, heartless materialism & tyranny. Some believe in the establishment & some don't. The clash is essential. Some want to continue in the old ways "because that's the way we've always done it and it works for me", but many more are sick & tired of the old approach, recognize that a huge part of our society/world is excluded or mercilessly exploited in the existing system & have concluded that it is time to demand major changes - to say - to hell with that approach.
  4. Perhaps in the future, if you chose to side with the forces who are opposed to democracy, you could post quotes by notable people who are speaking out against this movement. Perhaps that would more logical and fair. Also, in the future, please refrain from vandalizing legit posts and if you have any questions - feel free to ask. :-)
  5. Thank you & best wishes. Om777om (talk) 02:08, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Regarding your points #1 & #2 – The named title of this article is for quotes about the "Yellow vests movement". This quotation by Howard Zinn is not about that particular movement arising in 2018. This is not a criticism of Zinn: He wrote wisely and well about many topics, but he cannot be faulted for overlooking events he did not live to see.

Regarding the plethora of See also items, I would encourage other editors to review the propriety of listing all these "mostly tangential or entirely unrelated" topics in an article for quotations about the Yellow vests movement. As interesting as these topics may be, the point if this article is to cover quotations about one particular topic.

Regarding your ad hominem arguments against myself, you are quite mistaken about my motives and opinions. I have said nothing "against these freedom fighters" or for any kind of tyrants. You nave no grounds to accuse me of vandalism, and I encourage you to refrain from baseless accusations. ~ Ningauble (talk) 19:04, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • 1)Please pardon my ignorance. 2)To my mind, the Zinn quote was a very relevant & valuable element. I was not faulting him for anything. 3) Have noticed many other WQ articles have relevant topics in the "see also" links that tend to compliment the topic at hand, that one would think could/would serve to help educate those who don't already know about them. 4) Your removing what seems to my less refined mind to be acceptable elements, seemed like an attack on the movement & the article. What the average joe might call 'vandalism'. I do not see any personal attacks or baseless accusations in my comments to you. I must study & learn the WQ system & WQ definitions of the words. Apparently it's set up by and for scholars much more than the average thinker/activist. Best wishes Om777om (talk) 20:06, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
