- @Just A Regular New Yorker: A quick Googling or a look at the "Controversial tweets and firing from Disney" of his Wikipedia article should answer your question. Basically a few right-wing trolls decided to get him fired because he criticized Trump, and Disney (who are watching their backs as a result of the legitimate concerns over sexual harassment and abuse in the entertainment industry) overreacted. It's not surprising that the same trolls are editing various Wikimedia projects with the goal of "immortalizing" this incident and making it appear that he's primarily notable for some off-colour jokes he told in the late 2000s and early 2010s, long before anyone had actually heard of him. - I'm not an expert in this somewhat sensitive topic, and I respect your opinion, but if the quotes in question are sourced and notable than I don't feel it is appropriate to take them down. The latter is perhaps debatable. If the person would not be notable had he not said these quotes than I agree that they might not be of importance, but if he would be notable regardless, than I argue that the quotes are of importance. I need to look into this further to come to a definitive conclusion. Keep in mind that this is just my personal opinion and I am open to discussion about it. J.A.R.N.Y.|🗣️|📧 00:04, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Just A Regular New Yorker: They are not notable. All the sources are either "Yeah, he said them, but why is that notable?" or unreliable alt-right trolls. The person is notable primarily as the director the two Guardians of the Galaxy films in 2014 and 2017; the quotes in question come from long before 2014, and were dug up with the specific intention of defaming him. - Just to clarify one point that I still don’t understand. Do the quotes come from a reliable source (i.e verified social media account of the person in question, newspaper article, etc), regardless of how old it is and who dug it up? If so, than I see no reason to remove the quotes just because they cast the subject in a bad light. However, if the quotes are not reliably sourced, I agree with you completely. - Is Wikiquote a collection of random tweets selected from the millions of tweets made by notable individuals by racist trolls? Yes, to the best of my knowledge they came from a verified Twitter account, but they were originally meant to be jokes. Hijiri88 (talk) 04:53, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
