The C of E (talk · contributions)
[edit]The C of E (talk · contributions) - I'd like to become an admin to make Wikiquote a better site and help newer users along in their Wikiquote experience.
- Acceptance: The C of E 18:25, 10 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]
- Comment: After noticing [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] - I inquired at the talk page for The C of E (talk · contributions) if he would like help setting up a RfA page [6]. He indicated in the affirmative [7], so I have set up this page. Cirt (talk) 17:37, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose. I would expect someone that is attempting to become an admin would have at least six months' experience and/or around 500 edits in several types of articles (or similar wiki experience shown in other projects). I would also expect involvement not just in adding quotes, but also in project maintenance, as well as a demonstrated understanding of Wikiquote policies and practices, including reading the policy and maintenance pages for information. I have not seen such qualities demonstrated by this user. In addition, there have also been instances of outright hostility to other admins when trying to place messages on the user's talk page. This, taken with the lack of experience and demonstrated understanding of how Wikiquote works, leads me to oppose this request. ~ UDScott 18:01, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- To further augment my comments above, I would expect that someone who was attempting to become an admin would understand the basics of Wikiquote and the formatting that we use. But the recent edits to Broken Sword show that this user does not even meet this low threshold. ~ UDScott 18:34, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- FYI, What was wrong with my formatting? The C of E 16:25, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- He has indicated by the Diffs above that he does wish to run for adminship, but could we wait on further Oppose/Supports until he has commented on this page? Cirt (talk) 18:17, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay nevermind, he did it [8]. Cirt (talk) 18:26, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose due to lack of experience and unfamiliarity with community standards. I think it takes closer to 1,000 edits, including both editing articles and participating in community affairs, to learn the written and unwritten rules of the community and to demonstrate responsibility. Anyone can make mistakes, especially when starting out. The C of E has quite a way to go to demonstrate having learned from such mistakes as disruptive voting ([9], [10]), incivility toward administrators ([11]), and apparently using a sockpuppet account (The C of E is back! (talk · contributions)) to evade a block ([12]). ~ Ningauble 19:16, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I admit I have done all thse things in the past and I hold my hands up and I admit that they were wrong. I've changed now and I want to try and make up for it in future by guiding newer editors and try and prevent them making the same mistakes that I made The C of E 15:51, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Chalk it up to experience. Get more experience, and in the long run it won't be held against you. ~ Ningauble 19:29, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose - Um, wow. I was gonna hold back since I started this page (as a procedural thing to help out the candidate) but I must Oppose based on the Diffs cited by Ningauble (talk · contributions), many of which are pretty recent. Cirt (talk) 19:39, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. There are many, many ways to make Wikiquote a better site without being an admin. In fact, I'd say more than ninety-nine percent of the work that most needs doing, and on which we spend most of our time, does not require adminship (I've made close to 18,000 edits, and only 2% are administrative). Not voting. BD2412 T 08:08, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Support. I don't know if i'm allowed to support myself, if i'm not then please tell me and i'll take this down but for now I fully support him! The C of E
- Question: in what way would adminship allow you to "help newer users along in their Wikiquote experience"? BD2412 T 17:50, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd give them a greeting and if they do wrong I'll give them a friendly suggestion not to do that instead of the generic automated responses that most admins use The C of E 18:43, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I think what BD2412 (talk · contributions) means is that you can still do those sorts of things anyways, without being a sysop first... Cirt (talk) 18:45, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose per Ningauble's remarks. - InvisibleSun 22:32, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose – this alone would cause me to oppose, but per the above also. TheAE talk 19:58, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose — Your statement, "I'd like to become an admin to make Wikiquote a better site and help newer users along in their Wikiquote experience," can easily be done without administrative tools. Also, the opposes above are very concerning, so I can't trust you as a Wikiquote administrator. — RyanCross (talk) 21:02, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment Why the heck are people using things I did in the past to judge me? You should judge me by recent edits and not things I did ages ago when I (personally) was an ignorant newbie. The law here seem to be if people make a few mistakes in the past, they have to be blamed for it for ages after and be exempt from things that they could actually be quite good at which could help make this site better. The C of E 22:11, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually, this edit, which I cited in my oppose, was made on February 25, 2009. I wouldn't exactly call that ages ago. There are things which you cannot learn in a few weeks. I'm sorry. TheAE talk 22:31, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment Well I can see i'm not going to become an admin this time, but don't you worry in a while. I'll be back! The C of E 07:12, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
