Yanni Hufnagel (born August 26, 1982) is a former American basketball coach serving as an assistant coach for various universities. He last coached under Eric Musselman for the Nevada Wolf Pack mens team beginning in 2016.
He previously served as an assistant coach for the California Golden Bears, Vanderbilt Commodores, and Harvard Crimson. Hufnagel was regarded as one of the top recruiters in college basketball.
Yanni Hufnagel interviewed with Harvard in 2009 for a position as a volunteer assistant coach. Hufnagel remembers his nerves during the interview, “People looked at me like I had four eyes when I said I wanted to go to Harvard.”
In an interview with Tablet Magazine, Yanni Hufnagel discusses his Jewish upbringing. As a kid, Hufnagel played with figurines of basketball players under his comforter and read coaching books late into the night. Hufnagel had an affinity for lacrosse in school- he played for a season at Penn State before transferring schools. Hufnagel wasn't good enough at basketball to make Scarsdale's high school team. Hufnagel commented on his own basketball skills; "I can make a shot," he said, "like all the Jewish guys.
