Axel Foley

[edit]
  • You didn’t hear about the Winnipeg trade? I’m the new man up in this bitch.
  • You are the Woodman, and you're getting promoted! [...] You're breaking your cherry!
  • You made an assumption based on [indicates his skin color] this that I did not like hockey.
  • What are you staring at? What is this, a union job? Well, we don't give OSHA breaks here. Move, bitch!
  • Seriously, this is your squad car? You know, part of me rather get locked up for resisting arrest than get put in this little Fisher Price motherfucker y'all are rolling around in. Y'all are the LEGO cops.
  • [picking up on Bobby and his daughter's relationship] Have you two had intercourse?
  • The point that I'm trying to make, is that when I do something like try to teach you how to get out of handcuffs, that's the same as another parent when they take their kid to the ballgame or giving their kids a slinky, you know?
  • This is just like Detroit impound, except for everything.
  • You're my only child, right? And I've only been a father as long as you've been a daughter. We're making this up as we go along, we both are.
  • I do some of my best work when I'm suspended.
  • Bobby, I'm from Detroit; for me, this is like going to Buffalo Wild Wings. [seconds later] This is nothing like Buffalo Wild Wings.
  • [after tricking Grant into thinking he escaped through the air-vents] You watch too many movies.
  • I think you're being a touch negative, because, see, men are trying to kill us, Bobby, and you're a helicopter pilot. And I'm pretty sure that's a fucking helicopter. Shall we?
  • [on Bobby flying a helicopter] This shit's supposed to be like riding a bike! You're supposed to get right in there and know how to do this shit!
  • I will shoot you in your face if you don’t fly this helicopter! I will shoot you then I'mma shoot myself because I ain’t dying in no helicopter crash!
  • That was… that was way better than I would have did. Not much better though. But way worse than a real pilot would have did.
  • I can see you have layers. Like an onion.

Bobby Abbot

[edit]
  • Look, Mr. Foley, I appreciate you’ve been doing this a long time. But the world has changed a bit. You can’t just sit across the desk from another male and say something to threaten my manhood and think I’m just going to get so flustered with insecurity I forget what we were talking about. Bet that’s worked a lot for you in the past, but it’s not gonna work with me.
  • [to Axel] You have a hard time admitting you need help.
  • I guess you don't wanna solve this one, huh, Chief? You just wanna manage it.
  • I mean, I'm fine, but I think it's healthy to be a little bit nervous walking into a bar full of guns.

Cade Grant

[edit]
  • Well, used to be you could get around a warrant with a little creative writing, but in the current climate? We have to be so careful about everything we say, everything we do -- it helps to have somebody outside the official chain of command.
  • Asshole almost broke my fibula, and I thought I was never gonna walk again. You know what I got for that? A pat on the back and a ribbon. A fuckin' ribbon.
  • I can't even afford to live in the city I got shot in. How is that for justice?
  • What the fuck are these guys doing?! [over loudspeaker] Pull over! I mean, land!
  • Oh, I don't need luck, babycakes. See, I control the narrative. Enriques, Copeland, Rosewood, Foley. There's only one loose end! And that's you. Now, when people hear that your dad was killed by the Cartel, that's gonna be so easy to believe because they're gonna say "Hey, Axel Foley? Shit, I can't believe he lasted this long! But his squeaky clean daughter, Jane Saunders? What do you think happened? Maybe she was speeding down Mulholland, racing to get to the police station to find out what happened to Pops, and she took a turn just a little too fast and went sailing right off a cliff..." with no tow truck cable to catch her this time, huh?
  • Axel Foley, you are a true son of a bitch, aren'tcha? And I mean that as the highest of compliments.

Jane Saunders

[edit]
  • [Sam: Check my record. I'm not in the game.] Murder weapon in your lap? Trunk full of cocaine? You're in the game, Sam.
  • [regarding Axel] He's not my dad. I mean, he's-- He's my dad, he hasn't been a dad.
  • Go back to Detroit. We'll talk in another five years? And just so you know, if you had went to therapy: "The parent is always the parent. The child is always the child". We didn't mess this up, you messed this up. Goodbye.
  • I'm your daughter. The only thing you ever fought for is your job.
  • You know what my biggest issue was with my father? His maniacal focus drove me insane. He was relentless. Ironically, that's your biggest issue right now. Good luck, asshole.

Others

[edit]
  • John Taggart: Detective, your extremely high-profile homicide turned out to be a self-solver. So if I were you, I would count my blessings and stop trying to be so fucking interesting, got it?
  • Billy Rosewood: You can never have too much firepower.

Dialogue

[edit]
Axel Foley: [imitating Detective Mike Woody] "I can… I can do better. I will be better. I will be… I don’t have to stay this way. I can be a better white man."
Mike Woody: That's me?
Axel Foley: [regular voice] That's you.
Mike Woody: Oh, yeah, but if I do you, then I am--
Axel Foley: Then it's wildly offensive.

Mike Woody: God, you know, most guys your age? They're starting to slow down... you know, taking desk jobs! Trying to relax a little bit.
Axel Foley: This is how I relax. Are you not relaxed right now?
[One of the robbers takes a shot at the duo]
Mike Woody: God--! Not relaxed!

Axel Foley: Hey, let me tell you something, Jeffrey. I don’t know whether or not you realize it, but this city still has a lot of problems. They need us.
Jeffrey Friedman: No, no, you need the city. That's what it is. But you know what, Axel? At the end of the day, all this, it was just a job.

Axel Foley: [in Jamaican accent] Who the pussy clart you think you is calling this place this time of night?
Billy Rosewood: Axel, cut the shit.
Axel Foley: Axel. Me no know Axel. You dial the wrong number. What blood clart number you trying to reach? Who is this?
Billy Rosewood: It's about Janey.
Axel Foley: [normal voice] Well, why didn't you just start with that?

Beck's Henchman: What the hell...? This is you!
Axel Foley: Uh, nah, man, that's not me. That's that actor Wesley Snipes. Everybody say I look just like him, I don't look nothing like Wesley! That Wesley's a handsome motherfucker, ain't he?

Axel Foley: I'm a Detroit police officer, my name is Axel Foley. My badge is in my pocket--
Woman Cop: Don't reach for it!
Axel Foley: Hey, I've been a cop for thirty years, I've been black a whole lot longer. Trust me, I know better.

Axel Foley: The Twelfth Street Mafia vowed to execute my family, so I got my family safe. Because the Twelfth Street Mafia is some scary motherfuckers.
Jane Saunders: Did the Twelfth Street Mafia tell you to get a divorce and stay in Detroit?
Axel Foley: No, that was your mother. She's ten times worse than the Twelfth Street Mafia.

Axel Foley: Sometimes a parent do something because they don't know how to express stuff with words, so they do things. You see what I'm saying?
Jane Saunders: So what is he saying when he stops trying? See what I'm saying?

Captain Cade Grant: I-- It's so impressive how you've been able to maintain such a vibrant relationship even though she protects the same people that you've spent your life trying to put away. I'm just amazed it doesn't get to you. I mean, criminals, sure, but we're talking about cop killers here. How does that sit with you, huh? We put our lives on the line every day. It's a war out there. We deserve more.
Axel Foley: I like that Rolex you got on.
Captain Cade Grant: Gold Daytona. Isn't she a beauty?
Axel Foley: Well, you put it best when you said this job asks a lot from us, never really gives anything back. Not like that, anyway. Must be a Beverly Hills thing.
Captain Cade Grant: All I know is, I earned it and I'm gonna enjoy it.

Concierge: May I help you, sir?
Axel Foley: Uh, yes, I'm Nigel Applebottom with Bon Appetit, and I was wondering... you know, to hell with this, I'm just too tired. Do you have any rooms available?
Concierge: You're in luck; I've got a beautiful resort for your room.
Axel Foley: Oh, great! I'll take that.
Concierge: Wonderful! The rate is 940 dollars a night, plus tax.
Axel Foley: I love Beverly Hills.

Bobby Abbott: She broke it off with me. And I'm not afraid to say that; she ended it, but you wanna know why?
Axel Foley: I got a lot of ideas--
Bobby Abbott: She said she couldn't date a cop.

Bobby Abbott: Look, obviously I've never been a father before, but...
Axel Foley: So it means whatever you're about to say is irrelevant.

Bobby Abbott: Aah!
Axel Foley: What the fuck is "aah"?! Get your ass in the helicopter!

Axel Foley: Man, you look nervous.
Bobby Abbott: I am nervous.
Axel Foley: Well, why are you so damn nervous?
Bobby Abbott: I crashed a fuckin' helicopter, okay?! Got in my head, I haven't flown since! That's why I left LAPD.
Axel Foley: WHAT?!

Bobby Abbott: I don't have my rudder!
Axel Foley: What?!
Bobby Abbott: He shot my rudder up!
Axel Foley: ...Do you have another one?

Billy Rosewood: What took you so long?
Axel Foley: The sightseeing. I love LA this time of year. Something about the smog and the smoke from the forest fires, it's magical.

Axel Foley: "Stay safe". Stay safe... Y'all safe? Everybody safe?
Billy Rosewood: I'm good.
Bobby Abbott: There's no seatbelt in the middle.
Axel Foley: Fuck a seatbelt! We're on the edge!

Billy Rosewood: You know, we don't have to do it right now, but at some point, I'd like an apology.
John Taggart: Jesus Christ, Billy. I just saved your life and I'm about to die for ya!
Billy Rosewood: It'd just be nice to hear the words.

Captain Cade Grant: You know, I lost my family. Wife divorced me. Kids won't even speak to me. And for what?
Axel Foley: Ain't nobody trying to hear that shit you talking. You not a cop, you're a criminal!

Rachel Saunders: You know you didn't have to get shot for us to hang out, right?
Axel Foley: No, but it helped, though. It did that.
