Lord, ... why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

The Book of Habakkuk is the eighth of the twelve minor prophets of the Hebrew Bible.

Quotes[edit]

  • Lord, ... your eyes are too pure to look on evil;
you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.
Why then do you tolerate the treacherous?
Why are you silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
  • For the stone will cry out from the wall, ... "Woe to him who builds a town with blood and founds a city on iniquity!"
