Journalists[edit]

Journalists currently have no other parent-category, but in my experience people who work in the television&radio industries, such as news reporters are also called journalists, even though they may not consider themselves "authors". Can anyone else here see a problem? Ottawahitech (talk) 13:55, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are correct (and something I noted a while back, but lost track of). To be more accurate, "print journalists" (including those who write for newspapers, magazines, online news sites, etc.) are what fit into the author category, as opposed to "broadcast journalists" (whose content is broadcast by electronic means, meaning audio or video). Perhaps we should make this distinction and divide the people within this category as appropriate? Then just Category:Print journalists could be placed under authors. And while we're at it, Category:Columnists should actually be a sub to Category:Print journalists. ~ UDScott (talk) 14:56, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Diffusing Category : Journalists into print & broadcast sub-cats does address the question I raised above.
I was looking up the equivalent cat on enwp which is named differently (w:Category:Writers by genre), but don't have the time right now to comment. I hope I will remember to come back here at a later date.
Thanks in advance for any more feedback. Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 16:31, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
