Thanking others[edit]

I use the thanks button a lot. I hope it is received by others as a small token of appreciation for the work they do here. Many thankless people on the internet provide service to others with no pay. Many work in isolation. The wmf software makes it easy to thank these volunteers for the benefit they provide to me.

Many times I thank users for changes they made a long time ago, such as starting an important page. Some of the users I thank have not been active for years, I thank them just in case they ever check their account so they will know that someone appreciated the work they had done. When time permits, I also thank users who have contributed to pages that I started, or other pages that I come across in the hope of encouraging them to stick around. If I thanked you for your talkpage comment it is likely because I appreciate you taking the time to participate, not necessarily because I agree with you.

When I am busy I thank those who have pinged me in discussion or contacted me on my talkpage to signal that I am aware of their post and may respond later.

I try to limit thanking admins so as not to seem like I am looking for favours. Also, I have seen somewhere that some of the more popular users receive so many thanks that they view thanks as a form as harrassment. Please note that users can Mute other users by changing Notifications in their Preferences (use Muted users).

I wrote this mainly for those whom I have thanked to try and explain why I thank users. If you have any questions/concerns/remarks, I would appreciate you letting me know on my talk page. I will attempt to respond, time permitting.

My contributions to English Wikiquote[edit]

  • analysis of my contributions
    • How to opt in (C&P from MediaWiki :XTools/Edit Counter):
      • "To opt in, a user must create the page Special:MyPage/EditCounterOptIn.js (as in User:<username>/EditCounterOptIn.js) on each wiki they want to opt in for. This page should be created with any content (it just has to have some content).
To opt in on all projects, they must create meta:Special:MyPage/EditCounterGlobalOptIn.js (as in User: <username>/EditCounterGlobalOptIn.js) on MetaWiki.
Again, the actual content of this page is irrelevant."

Edit section template (Crosspost from the Village pump)[edit]

On Wikipedia there is a template called {{Edit section}} (which I needed for a template I was making, so I copied it over and it doesn't work. So I tested it on Wikipedia and works just fine. Do you have any idea on why this is happening and how to fix it?

Edit: It appears that the section attribute in the url when editing behaves differently on Wikiquote then on Wikipedia, on Wikipedia it can be a number or a section name, while on Wikiquote it can only be an number, why is this and how do I make it behave like Wikipedia? – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 22:32, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
