Gotham is a superhero drama/crime series that premiered in September 2014 on Fox. It revolves around a teenage Bruce Wayne before he became Batman, and how he first met the familiar characters in the Batman universe, such as The Penguin, The Riddler, Selina Kyle and Jim Gordon.

Year Zero (5.01][edit]

Harvey Bullock: What did the department of douchebaggery say?
Jim Gordon: Same as always. They're not sending any help, they're not letting anyone leave. I had to try.
Harvey Bullock: I swear to God, I'm never paying taxes again.

Jonathan Crane: Get what we came for. Kill whoever stands in your way. Show these fools the face of fear!

Selina Kyle: Doc says, the surgery's a success; my spine's not gonna turn to jelly. [sarcastically] I'm still never gonna be able to walk again, so... that's a bummer.
Bruce Wayne:... There's limited resources here, but there's hope once we're on the mainland.
Selina Kyle: [Sarcastically] Gee... for a second there, I was worried.
Bruce Wayne: Selina, I know you're in pain... but the medicine is on it's way.
Selina Kyle: [scoffs]...You know what's funny? Jeremiah shot me to get to you. After all the things I've done... what did me in was being your friend. [turns away from Bruce] I just wish Jeremiah had killed me.
[Bruce stares at her for a moment, then stands to leave.]
Nurse: [quietly] Doctors can't help her. [Bruce stares at her] She needs the Witch.

Oswald Cobblepot: [after killing Tabitha] Can we move past this? Say the whole "Butch-Tabitha" chapter is over?
Barbara Kean: I am gonna feed your guts to the rats, you beaky-nosed freak!
Oswald Cobblepot: So... no.

Jim Gordon: I know you're all asking, "Why are we still here when our own government wont help us?" Simple. We're supposed to giving these people hope. Hope that if they're in danger, someone will come. We will come. Suit up!

Trespassers [5.02][edit]

Jim Gordon: Planning revenge?
Barbara Kean: Well, someone has to do something about that freak!
Jim Gordon: He has an army. It would be suicide.
Barbara Kean: Look around, Jim. We're all slowly dying. Just, some of us get to choose how.

Jim Gordon: Give us the kids you're holding captive and we'll leave.
Sykes: I don't know what you're talking about.
Jim Gordon: What are the cattle prods for?
Sykes: Fun.

Sykes: Why would anyone be a cop in a world like this?
Harvey Bullock: Well, the Halloween shop was all out of gas masks, so it was either this or "sexy nurse".

Ivy Pepper: You know, I wasn't lying when I said this park is changing. I'm feeding the Earth with these wretched creatures. It consumes them, and then it flourishes. I think I shall plant your body in the ground, Bruce. What will grow from you, I wonder?
Bruce Wayne: Those men you killed were right. You are a witch. A murderous, callous witch.
Ivy Pepper: Are you trying to bait me, boy?
Bruce Wayne: I wouldn't waste my breath. I can see there's no good left in you. If you were trying to make this park flourish, it would be full of beauty and color. Instead, it smells of death.
Ivy Pepper: It's a work in progress.

Barbara Kean: Wow. Your last bullet just for me, huh? Must be love. Not all square yet though. You're gonna help me do what we all know needs doing.
Jim Gordon: Oh, yeah? What's that?
Barbara Kean: Kill Penguin.

Penguin, Our Hero [5.03][edit]

Oswald Cobblepot: The Street Demonz! To what do I owe this honor?
Street Demonz Leader: You hit our stronghold and killed our men. And not just us - you hit the Lo Boyz and the Undead, too.
Oswald Cobblepot: [sarcastically] Did I, now?
Street Demonz Leader: You tagged the scene with graffiti that said, "Penguin Was Here".
Oswald Cobblepot: You dolt! If I wanted to start a gang war, you'd all be dead. I wouldn't leave a few and sign my name. Someone wanted you to attack me.
Street Demonz Leader: [pause] That's a good point. We didn't really think this through.
Oswald Cobblepot: Well, there'll be plenty of time for thinking while my men are ripping out your fingernails! Chain him up!

Bruce Wayne: I want to find Jeremiah just as much as you do, but even if we find him, he's had months to fortify himself. We can't go after him alone.
Selina Kyle: You scared, Bruce?
Bruce Wayne: Of course I'm scared. Jeremiah shot you to get to me. He almost killed you. I won't lose you.
Selina Kyle: I'm not yours to lose.

Oswald Cobblepot: I'm not helping you, Jim. You are the reason I'm in this predicament. You have taken everything from me.
Jim Gordon: Keep your voice down!
Oswald Cobblepot: I kept people safe. I protected them from chaos. They should have loved me. Instead, they came here to this pigsty to be covered with fleas and filth. Why? What makes this place so special?
Jim Gordon: Well, for one thing, it's far away from you.

Ecco: What's the matter? Don't you wanna meet Jeremiah?
Selina Kyle: I do. I'm just not willing to play your little psychotic game.
Ecco: [chuckles] But, baby... It's sooo fun.
Selina Kyle: [sarcastically] If it's so fun... why don't you play?
Ecco: Don't you get it? I have. [grins, reveals a bullet wound at the top of her neck] The bullet's still inside... rattlin' around this old noggin of mine. Ping. Ping. Ping. Boy, do I feel it when the nights get cold.
[She holds a gun to her own head and pulls the trigger on empty several times, laughing manically]
Selina Kyle: You're insane.
Ecco: No, I was willing to look death in the face. To allow the old me to die. It's the gift Jeremiah's brother Jerome left for him, and the gift he wants for all his followers. Don't you wanna experience this gift for yourself? [points the gun at Selina] I know I want you to... Selina.
Selina Kyle: [startled] You know me.
Ecco: There isn't a single part of Bruce Wayne's life we don't know about. His joys, his disappointments, his... desires. But, just like Bruce wasn't ready to embrace his true self... looks like you aren't, either.
Selina Kyle: May-be. [steps closer] But... one thing Jeremiah did teach me? [hisses] Is that I... hate...having a gun pointed at my face.
[She disarms Ecco and they fight]
Ecco: [sneers] Oh, Puddin'... aren't you delicious!
[They continue fighting. Ecco retrieves the gun and pulls the trigger until it fires, but Selina catches her arm, then throws her to the ground and grabs the gun.]
Selina Kyle: Don't... call me Puddin'! [She drags Ecco up and holds the gun to her head.]
Ecco: [grins] There you go, Selina. I knew you had it in you! All it took was a little kick in the pants!

Ruin [5.04][edit]

Barbara Kean: Do you really think I could have killed all those people?
Jim Gordon: [pause] I don't know.
Barbara Kean: I guess I deserved that.

Oswald Cobblepot: [through a bullhorn] To the vile miscreant who murdered those innocent Havenites, you have nowhere to run!
Harvey Bullock: There goes the element of surprise.
Oswald Cobblepot: We will root you out like the vermin you are! Two forces, united in one purpose-!
[A bullet knocks the bullhorn out of his henchman's hand. Everyone scrambles for cover.]
Jim Gordon: Elevated position, back to the sun...
Harvey Bullock: Looks like we found our guy, huh?
Jim Gordon: We're sitting ducks out here.
Harvey Bullock: And one penguin. Hey, Oswald, why don't you crawl out there, grab that bullhorn and tell him to come down quietly?
[Oswald scoffs sarcastically.]

Victor Zsasz: I did not make that building go boom, Jim.
Oswald Cobblepot: [interjecting] Oh, please! You gave up any shred of honor long ago! Why should we believe a snake like you?
Victor Zsasz: Because I would never take credit for someone else's work.
Oswald Cobblepot: Oh, no, you would just betray anyone and everyone for the right price!
Victor Zsasz: Is this about Sofia Falcone? Because you should really move past that. It's not healthy.

Ecco: OK, recruits, let's do like my daddy did before my sixth birthday and move out!

Victor Zsasz: You guys got any canned peaches? Man, I'd give an arm and a leg for some of those right now. Not mine. Somebody else's.

Pena Dura [5.05][edit]

Gretel: It's only fair you die slow and painful, to pay for JoJo!
Edward Nygma: Who's JoJo?
Gretel: JoJo was in Haven when you blew it up. [shows him a picture of a dog]
Edward Nygma: [laughs] This is a joke, right? 300 people died in Haven!
Gretel: [scoffs] We don't care about people! [tearing up] Look at how happy JoJo was. He always had a smile on his face.
Edward Nygma: You anthropomorphizing nincompoop! Dogs can't smile!

Edward Nygma: Hello, Oswald. We have a great deal to talk about. But first: did you name your dog after me?

Bruce Wayne: Selina, I know you, and this isn't you.
Selina Kyle: [scoffs] You know me?
Bruce Wayne: Yes, maybe better than you know yourself.
Selina Kyle: Let me tell you something. That night when your parents were murdered, I was in that alley on the fire escape. And I watched that guy shoot your father, and shoot your mother... and through it all, I did nothing. [crying] I didn't call for help, I didn't scream for the guy to stop...
Bruce Wayne: It wasn't your fault. You were just a scared kid.
Selina Kyle: [abruptly stops crying] No. You were the scared kid. We're not the same, Bruce. I didn't do anything because I wasn't willing to risk my neck for somebody else. Because I didn't care! That's who I was, and that's who I am.

Barbara Kean: I am gonna cut your face into a jigsaw puzzle and watch you try to put it back together again.

13 Stitches [5.06][edit]

Barbara Kean: So the government is behind Haven and the supply helicopter. [gestures to Nygma] And they did it with a chip in this one's head.
Edward Nygma: Is that really the craziest thing you've ever heard, Barbara?

[Fox is operating on Nygma's brain]
Edward Nygma: OW! Would you be careful?!
Lucius Fox: If you stop moving, this will go a lot faster.
Edward Nygma: Well, if you'd be more careful, I wouldn't potato all the longlegs in the hidden spoon!
[Alfred and Barbara exchange confused glances]
Barbara Kean: What just happened?
Lucius Fox: I believe the chip is installed against his speech center.
Barbara Kean: [chuckles] Do it again.
Lucius Fox: The human brain is not a plaything, Miss Kean.
Edward Nygma: Please don't habituate the curtain rod!

Magpie: This is my workshop, where I make my boom-booms. Anything out there, boom-boom, then more boom, and soon, the whole room...
Selina Kyle: Boom-boom, we get it!

Oswald Cobblepot: Alexander the Great looked upon his land, and wept, for there was nothing left to conquer. I've done all I can in Gotham - sometimes twice. There's nothing left for me here.

Ace Chemicals [5.07][edit]

Selina Kyle: Penguin has been stealing everything that's not nailed down, and now he needs a way of getting it off the island.
Barbara Kean: And you're helping him.
Selina Kyle: Well, that's what he thinks. Barbara, Tabitha was my friend, too. If anything, I wanna gut the twerp... and take his loot.
Barbara Kean: Except you don't actually have a way out of Gotham.
Selina Kyle: I'll find one tonight. I'll still need your help moving the stuff. We can get outta here together.
Barbara Kean: Hmmm... Away from Jim Gordon, rich as Midas, Penguin dead in a ditch. Well, aren't we just two single ladies and a baby, about to kill our sworn enemy. [she raises a pistol, but Selina looks uncomfortable] What?
Selina Kyle: It's just, you're pregnant...
Barbara Kean: [uncocks the pistol] Don't even start!

Jim Gordon: You know, I never figured you for Jeremiah's errand boy.
Jervis Tetch: Oh Captain, no errands do I run. This is simply a way for me to have some fun.
Leslie Thompkins: Tell yourself that. Take away your games and your rhymes, and what are you but a second-rater with a really silly hat?
Jervis Tetch: Shut up!
[Ecco whispers in Tetch's ear and giggles]
Jervis Tetch: Beautiful! [to Leslie] Lee Thompkins, you intrigue me so. First you were a doctor, then the Narrows' queen. Tell me, please do, are you running from your past when you become someone new?

Jeremiah Valeska: [to Bruce] If I can't have you as a brother bonded by love, then we'll just have to be bonded by hatred.

Bruce Wayne: Jeremiah, this ends tonight!
Jeremiah Valeska: No. No, Bruce. Now it begins.
[they fight]
Jeremiah Valeska: Do you feel it, Bruce? The connection between us? You do, don't you! Bruce, tell me you feel it.
Bruce Wayne: You mean nothing to me.
Jeremiah Valeska: Why don't you understand? You need me! I'm the answer to your life's question! Without me, you're just a joke... without a punchline!

Jeremiah Valeska: I wanna be the star of the show!

Nothing's Shocking [5.08][edit]

Barbara Kean: Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't call you for a couple stiffs.
Harvey Bullock: What do you normally do when a couple patrons get stabbed?
Barbara Kean: Bury the bodies, find out who did it, then bury those bodies.
Harvey Bullock: See, that's not something you should be telling a cop.
Barbara Kean: We're living in a different world, Harvey.

Scarface: Hand over the heaters!
Arthur Penn: If you don't mind.
Oswald Cobblepot: Mr. Penn, can't we just talk this through...
[Scarface fires at him]
Scarface: Get back!
Arthur Penn: I am so sorry.

Arthur Penn: Mr. Scarface and I have discussed our options, and the submarine sounds like a good plan.
Scarface: [nodding toward Nygma] And since we'll need the smart one to guild this hay-gurner, he can keep suckin' air. Gut Penguin ain't so lucky! Do it, Penn! Ventilate that mook!
Arthur Penn: I'm so sorry, Mr. Cobblepot. I wish things would have turned out differently.
Oswald Cobblepot: Arthur, I want you to listen to me. You accuse me of manipulating you, but what about him? I never asked you to kill anybody.
Arthur Penn: That is true.
Scarface: Hey!
Oswald Cobblepot: Think of everything we went through together. Sofia Falcone. Getting cut off from the mainland, starving....
Scarface: You mean Penn was starving! Fighting for scraps while your dog ate steak!
Oswald Cobblepot: I welcomed you into my home! And, yes, I was not a good friend. To you, or to anyone. It's why I'm alone. But I saw you for what you are, and I valued that. That must be worth something.
Scarface: Applesauce! You're a liar and a thief! All you do is take, take...
Arthur Penn: ...Take! And you never give anything. You worked me to the bone, forced me to be your puppet! Well, no more. You hear me?
Scarface: No more!

[Cobblepot destroys Scarface]
Arthur Penn: Mr. Cobblepot, you've freed me! How can I ever repay you...?
[Suddenly, Nygma appears from behind and shoots Penn in the head, killing him]
Oswald Cobblepot: Why did you do that? He wasn't the threat, the dummy was... [trails off as he realizes what he is saying]
Edward Nygma: Oswald, I accept you for the person you are, just as you accept me for the cold logician I am. That's why this friendship is great. And as my friend, you have to agree that that lunatic had to be stopped.
Oswald Cobblepot: [smiles] Perhaps, Edward, we really are meant for each other.

The Trial of Jim Gordon [5.09][edit]

Ivy Pepper: [to Selina] You always did think you were better than me. But without my plants, you never would have left your bed. I made you strong again. Think about that while my friend is cutting out your heart.

Selina Kyle: Look, I know we have history. Why don't we let bygones be bygones?
Mutant Leader: Yeah, right! [points to a V-shaped scar on his cheek] You did this to my face!
Selina Kyle: Whatever. It's not like you were much of a looker before, anyway.

Alfred Pennyworth: Forgive me, but I... heard on the grapevine that you and Captain Gordon had a rather heated exchange this morning.
Leslie Thompkins: Oh, God. Was it that bad?
Alfred Pennyworth: Apparently, it was like a session of the Italian Parliament.
[He sits beside her.]
Alfred Pennyworth: You have misgivings about the arrival of this child, don't you?
Leslie Thompkins: What am I getting myself into, Alfred? How am I supposed to raise a child alongside a psychopath like Barbara Kean? I mean, how the hell is this going to work? But... that's not all of it. If Jim and I are going to do this, we have to do it together. You know how he is. I don't know what's going on inside that man's head sometimes.
Alfred Pennyworth: I think you'll find that he needs you a lot more than he's letting on.
Leslie Thompkins: Well, I need to hear it from him. I never thought this was how my life was going to be.
Alfred Pennyworth: I had no interest in being a father myself. I always presumed that I was unfit to be one. And then I found myself one night, staring down this alley at this little boy quite literally shaking with fear. I don't know, it's funny what life throws you. I am keenly aware that I am not Master Bruce's flesh and blood, but it's the moments... the little things, like when he uses a skill that I once taught him, or when we laugh at a joke that only he and I share... those have been some of the most ecstatic moments of my life. Nothing can possibly prepare you for that joy. The how's and the what's, you'll figure that stuff out. What matters is this: you'll be an exquisite mother, and that child - he, she - will be extraordinary because of you.

Victor Zsasz: I wonder what Ivy's doing right now...
Harvey Bullock: Hey, lover boy!
[Bullock enters the squad room wearing a full-body bomb disposal suit.]
Victor Zsasz: Are you serious right now?
Harvey Bullock: As a heart attack.
[Zsasz fires his assault rifle at Bullock's chest, knocking him onto his back.]
Victor Zsasz: [laughs] What an idiot.
[Bullock gets back up and charges, knocking Zsasz to the floor and then punching him unconscious.]
Harvey Bullock: [takes off the helmet] Ah, that felt good.

Harvey Bullock: I'm just gonna say this isn't gonna be some long, drawn-out, tearful affair like ya'll are used to. This is gonna be a short wedding. I'm gonna make it quick so we can all get to the bar. I first met a young Jim Gordon when he was a pain-in-the-ass, moralistic rookie detective. In the years since, he has evolved into a pain-in-the-ass, moralistic captain. I'd say he's my best friend, but in truth he's my only friend, so we'll skip that. On to Lee. Lee's always had his back, except for the time she was infected with the crazy-making virus and she tried to kill him... but that's love. But I will say that if there's one beautiful thing that's happened over these last few crazy years, it's that these two people met each other. And that truly is a beautiful thing. Jim, will you please take Lee's hand? Do you, Jim Gordon, take Lee Thompkins to be your lawful, wedded wife from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish 'til death do you part?
Jim Gordon: I do.
Harvey Bullock: And you, Lee, do you do the same?
Leslie Thompkins: Sure, Harvey. I do.
Harvey Bullock: Then by the power vested in me by absolutely no one, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

Oswald Cobblepot: And now Jim Gordon and Lee Thompkins are man and wife. Thank God you held this city together so this blessed event could take place. It was never gonna work.
Barbara Kean: What?
Oswald Cobblepot: Controlling the gangs was not a backup plan. You saw a chance to convince James Gordon you had changed, but he will never see you as anything but a dangerous woman keeping his child from him.
Barbara Kean: Then I'd best be long gone before he can do anything about it.
Oswald Cobblepot: He will hunt you to the ends of the Earth.
Barbara Kean: Let him.

I Am Bane [5.10][edit]

Nyssa al-Ghul: Rest easy, Eduardo. I made you a promise when I found you in that hole in Pena Dura, and I intend to keep it. To give you a true purpose, and the strength to see it through.
Hugo Strange: However, I'm afraid this process will be agonizing and, unfortunately, quite lengthy. Apologies in advance.
Nyssa al-Ghul: You're going to be reborn, and then you'll be the bane of the unjust. The bane of the corrupt. The bane of anyone who opposes us.

Bane: If the world is full of monsters, then the only way to defeat them is to become one yourself.

[Barbara has a contraction.]
Oswald Cobblepot: Congratulations! Go to the clinic, go have your baby...
Barbara Kean: What, so you two can hightail it off this rock without me? I don't think so.
Oswald Cobblepot: I assure you, we will not launch without you. Ed and I will finish making preparations, and be ready to launch the moment you get back with that little bundle of joy! Or, unless I should drive you to the clinic in light of your delicate condition...
Barbara Kean: I can do it! I'm not that delicate! Remember that, if you even think about double-crossing me.
[She gets in her car.]
Edward Nygma: Very kind of you to offer to drive her.
Oswald Cobblepot: I knew she would never accept my help.
[Barbara drives away, Ed and Oswald both jauntily wave goodbye.]
Edward Nygma: Should I start the engine?
Oswald Cobblepot: One less passenger to worry about.
Edward Nygma: No, two, actually.
Oswald Cobblepot: [laughs] You are so right!

Edward Nygma: Lee.
Leslie Thompkins: Ed.
Edward Nygma: Don't worry, I'm not here for you... but, for the record, you stabbed me first.

Edward Nygma: I should have known you would try to screw us over.
Barbara Kean: You only noticed because you tried to screw me over first!
Edward Nygma: Second, technically.

Oswald Cobblepot: [draws a gun] Hand over the part, now.
Leslie Thompkins: [stepping in front of Barbara] Don't point that at the baby!
Oswald Cobblepot: ...What? [quickly lowers the gun] I did not! I was merely trying to make a general threatening gesture with a firearm...
Edward Nygma: But you did, though, you pointed the gun at the baby...
Oswald Cobblepot: All right, fine, I'M SORRY! Now give us what we want!
Barbara Kean: [in labor] Oh, you think I'm stupid enough to have the part on me? It's hidden away somewhere safe! And if you think you can torture me into telling you where, there is literally nothing more painful than what I am going through right now!

Nyssa al-Ghul: You asked me what I wanted from you. I want you to suffer, Bruce Wayne, and then I want you to die.

Edward Nygma: Some try to hide, some try to cheat, but time will let us always meet. What am I?
Oswald Cobblepot: A pregnant lady with a gun?
Edward Nygma: Death. But close enough.

[Nygma reveals the submarine part.]
Oswald Cobblepot: How long have you had that?
Edward Nygma: Long enough to know she'd never let it out of her sight.
Oswald Cobblepot: [starts to laugh, then] And you stuck around long enough to risk both of our lives to save Barbara's?! [realizes] Or was it to protect Lee?
Edward Nygma: Do you want me to answer that, or do you want to sail away from here?
Oswald Cobblepot: Bon voyage.

Jim Gordon: Son, if you're gonna stick a gun in my face, you should at least know that you're doing it wrong.

They Did What? [5.11][edit]

Nyssa al-Ghul: I'm sure you recognize this knife.
Barbara Kean: You touch my baby, and I will turn you into a pile of ash, just like your father.
Nyssa al-Ghul: Bit cruel, don't you think, to let this little one to get too attached when you're not going to be around much longer? Soon, you and Bruce Wayne will see Gotham and Jim Gordon's precious green zone destroyed. Then, I'll allow you to die. My father made his name destroying empires. Now, It's my turn.

Jim Gordon: Oswald. Come in.
Oswald Cobblepot: Still have those eyes in the back of your head, Jim.
Jim Gordon: No, you just have a remarkably recognizable odor. Part dandy, part snake. After all these years, it hasn't changed. Drink?
Oswald Cobblepot: No thank you. It dulls the senses.
Jim Gordon: That's what I was going for. Surprised you're still here. Would have thought you'd be long gone by now. That storm you warned me about for so long? It's finally here.
Oswald Cobblepot: We've shared some turbulent times, you and I.
Jim Gordon: That we have.
Oswald Cobblepot: When you spared my life on the pier that day and banished me from Gotham, it was the most lost I've ever been. Because I was away from the city, you see. It's part of me. You know what I'm talking about, because it's part of you, too. Sure, I could escape - with money, I might add - but then what? Stand on the shores of the mainland and watch the army burn it to the ground? Then watch tasteless industrialists and vapid politicians rebuild it? No. My life is etched on the walls of every alley and dirty warehouse here. My blood lives in its broken concrete. I'm staying to fight for my legacy!

Bane: You see, just a little ounce of pressure - that's all that separates the living from the dead.

Alfred Pennyworth: I spent all those years trying to protect you, and here you are - a soldier. A soldier for good.
Bruce Wayne: You've spent your life protecting me. Now it's time for me to do the same. It's time for me to protect Gotham, even if there's nothing left to defend.

Oswald Cobblepot: We saved this city from certain damnation, but will we receive any thanks for our loyalty, for our selfless bravery? Of course not!
Edward Nygma: I don't want their thanks or their respect. You know what I felt, standing shoulder to shoulder with those people out there? Nothing. I feel absolutely nothing for those drab, boring people. That was me, once. Minimum wage at a thankless job at the GCPD. "Yes, sir." "No, sir." "Thank you so much, sir." Picking up scraps from my master's floor. Shy, awkward, pathetic Ed. Common criminals. Never again! I've shown this city who I truly am once before, and I'll do it again! They will bow to the Riddler, and they won't get up until I permit them to!
Oswald Cobblepot: You're right. Our accomplishments erased. Our brilliant minds underrated. If they had let me run this city the way I wanted to, it would not be in ruins now. I had the men, the money, the guns...
Edward Nygma: Gordon took them. Why? Because he still sees you as Fish Mooney's umbrella boy, and he always will. I only came back to help him save the city so I could take it myself!
Oswald Cobblepot: We would be strong together. No one could stop us.
Edward Nygma: Perhaps.
Oswald Cobblepot: Let's make a pact, here and now. We will take what we want from who we want, and we will suffer no fools.
Edward Nygma: Shall we shake on that?
Oswald Cobblepot: Please, we're brothers. A hug.
Edward Nygma: A hug it is.
[they embrace, and draw knives on each other, but cannot bring themselves to strike]
Oswald Cobblepot: Life begins anew.
Edward Nygma: Shall we get to work?

The Beginning... [5.12][edit]

Bruce Wayne: Alfred... I'm writing to let you know I'm okay and that you won't hear from me for some time. But I will return when I'm able to protect the people I love. When Gotham needs me... I will return.

[Cobblepot has Gordon at gunpoint]
Oswald Cobblepot: Remember when we stood here, Jim, all those years ago? Don Falcone wanted you to shoot me, you refused? Don't you wish now that you had done it?
Jim Gordon: Everyone will know you did this.
Oswald Cobblepot: Let them! We both know that this has been a long time coming. Our story is over, old friend.
Jim Gordon: You want to kill me, fine. But there's no need to attack the Wayne Tower.
Oswald Cobblepot: [pause] What are you talking about?
Jim Gordon: Breaking Nygma out of Arkham, attacking the gangs... what do you think, you can attack Wayne Tower and no one's going to notice?
Oswald Cobblepot: I don't know what you're talking about. You and I stood shoulder to shoulder on those barricades, ready to die for this city. Six months later, you lock me up like an animal! This begins and ends with you and me!

Selina Kyle: So this is Bruce's new Gotham. I like the old one.

Jeremiah Valeska: Oh, Ecco, my sweet Ecco... There will never be another one like you.
Ecco: [overjoyed] Really?
[Jeremiah shoots her. She coughs up blood, still grinning happily, then drops dead.]
Jeremiah Valeska: But then, I suppose there are other fish in the sea.

[Jeremiah has Gordon's daughter Barbara suspended by a rope at Ace Chemicals]
Jeremiah Valeska: [As Gordon approaches, gun drawn] Come along, Commissioner! We're waiting. The party's raging, but it's well past the Princess's bedtime. It's funny, being back here. I can still feel my flesh sizzle as it melted away. It still burns, even now- oooh! [he suddenly lets the rope slide a little, causing Barbara to drop closer to one of the chemical vats]
Jim Gordon: [To Barbara] I'm here! Everything's gonna be fine.
Jeremiah Valeska: You think so? Personally, I'd say things are about as far away from "fine" as they could possibly be, Barbara Lee. What do I know? I did just spend the last ten years in the funny-farm [giggles].
Jim Gordon: What do you want, Jeremiah?
Jeremiah Valeska: [pretends to look around] ...Is there a "Jeremiah" here?
Jim Gordon: So what do I call you?
Jeremiah Valeska: Umm, I don't know. Call me...Jack! Mm, no, no, that's not right. Joseph! John, J... I don't know. I just... I feel something new, crawling from the primordial ooze that was me. Something... beautiful. [grins]
Jim Gordon: How long have you been pretending to be brain-dead?
Jeremiah Valeska: How long have you been pretending? That's a joke, I know you're not pretending. That's far enough, James. Ah-ta-ta. [he lets Barbara slide a bit further]
Jim Gordon: But you still haven't told me. Why? Why keep pretending?
Jeremiah Valeska: ... I was waiting for him to come home. We're bound together, he and I. It's the one thing I knew for certain, the one thing... I knew was true. And then, he just...abandoned us. Do you know how it feels to have the one, the only thing you love, ripped away from you? [pause] Feels like this.
[He lets go of the rope, causing Barbara to fall.]
Jim Gordon: NO!
[He grabs the rope and catches her, but Jeremiah draws a knife and stabs him in the shoulder, causing him to scream in pain]
Jeremiah Valeska: [cackling] Disappointing as tonight was, I will say it is fun carving up "Fillet au Commissioner!"
[as he raises the knife again, a projectile suddenly knocks it out of his hand]
Jeremiah Valeska: [draws a gun] Who's there? Whattaya want? Show yourself! Show yourself!
[He suddenly sees a dark figure approaching]
Jeremiah Valeska:...You.

Selina Kyle: You're there, aren't you? Do you have any idea what you did just leaving? You were all I had. And I know you wanted to protect me. But I didn't want to be protected. I wanted you. Say something. Say something.
Batman: There was no other way, Selina. I had to go.
Selina Kyle: So what happens now?
Batman: I don't know. But I'll never leave Gotham again. Return the diamond.
[She turns around; he has vanished]
Selina Kyle: Like hell.

Oswald Cobblepot: I did not spend 10 years in Blackgate Prison to give control of my city to a man dressed like a bat!
Edward Nygma: Yes!
[They free themselves from their handcuffs and jump out the back of the paddy wagon.]
Oswald Cobblepot: We have to find out who he is and show him that this is our city!
Edward Nygma: Agreed!
[They stop when they look up and see Batman leaping across rooftops, instantly terrified.]
Oswald Cobblepot: ...Tomorrow.
Edward Nygma: Tomorrow.

[The series's last lines]
Harvey Bullock: [after seeing Batman for the first time] Holy Mother... who is he?
Jim Gordon: [smiling] A friend.
