Redesign

[edit]

I just overhauled the page, using species:MediaWiki:Recentchangestext as a guideline. I kept all the links; this was just a visual overhaul, not a content one. The only thing I changed was to break Votes and Maintenance into separate sections. I also thru some noinclude tags around the interwikis, in case someone wants to transclude this onto a page in their userspace, and added a unique ID ("rchangestext-extralinks") to the "edit this page | talk" links so that they can disable it for themselves in their monobook if they so choose.

For those that are curious: before and after.

Personally, I think it looks much better, though I'll admit that it is smaller text than before; this is partly due to the fact that there is so much stuff crammed into the template. I personally think it could do with some pruning, but that's just me. EVula // talk // // 04:11, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. It looks much better than before, and it doesn't take as much space. Thank you, EVula. – RyanCross (talk) 06:59, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I like the alignment and compactness, but I don't care for color bars. Perhaps Stubs—No-intro—Cleanup could be moved from Useful to Maintenance.~ Ningauble 12:44, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I like the look of it - I don't have a feeling one way or the other on the color bars, but I do agree that Stubs, No intro, and Cleanup should probably be categorized under Maintenance. Good job! ~ UDScott 19:33, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've moved those three links into Maintenance.
Since it appears that the redesign is a bit of a hit, I'm going to spin out some of the styles into actual classes; that will allow users to override the background colors on a per-person basis (and will write up instructions on how to turn them off). Yay for customizing. :) EVula // talk // // 22:51, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Does anybody agree that we should add a Special:Contributions/newbies link so we can have a link on Special:RecentChanges that shows the contributions done by new editors? – RyanCross (talk) 04:33, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree, and as a Cabal of One, I've added it to the table. :) I added it under Maintenance, as those are generally all things that need patrolling by someone anyway. EVula // talk // // 16:45, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yep, that's perfectly fine were you have placed the link. Thank you, EVula. :) – RyanCross (talk) 06:28, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
