[edit]

This page is for suggestions on what to include at the top of the Recent changes page.

I want to add a link to Help:Starting a new page in the "Help" row. Any thoughts? ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 10:45, 18 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Looks a good idea. How about including it under "useful"? --Aphaia 21:09, 18 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
It also works under "Help", I think. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:33, 18 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Actually, why do we have all this stuff in Mediawiki:Recentchangestext, anyway? Does someone reviewing recent changes really need any of these links? Or are we treating MW:RC as a Wikiquote portal? ~ Jeff Q (talk) 22:35, 18 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well, it is a portal for me at least: that is the page from which I launch most of my WQ activity. Possibly, I am strange. If we wanted to make a minimal RCT, it would like like the following, possibly. ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 03:44, 19 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Main Page - Community portal - Help

Useful: Deletion - Quote of the day - New pages - Vandalism

Projects: Meta - Wikipedia - Wiktionary - Wikibooks - Wikinews - Wikisource - Commons - Species

I'm talking about the purpose of MW:RC, which looks to me like it should say what the page is supposed to display, and possibly include some links one might need for activity directly related to recent change patrolling. It seems unreasonably personal to turn a standard wiki header into a website portal just because it's a favorite sysop page. (Why not do this to VfD, since we spend so much time there, too?) If we want a sysop portal, I'd suggest something like my User:Jeffq/Admin shortcuts. On the other hand, if this is common practice across projects, I'm not going to press the issue. It just seems weird to me. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:13, 19 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
I was actually agreeing with you... :)
My point was just that if we want a page with only links useful for RC patrols, then the above should suffice. ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 04:42, 19 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sorry; I realized what you were doing there, but I didn't quite get the project links for RC stuff. But I have to point out that I don't do RC patrols nearly as often as you and Aphaia do, so the best I can do is bring up the point (in my trademark annoying fashion ☺). I concede that you all know better what frequent patrollers need to link to. I'll shut up now. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 06:12, 19 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Did you hover over the links? They point to other projects' RC pages, not main pages. I've never used them, myself, but I assume that other RC patrollers check for equivalent vandalism or spamming in other projects (for example, to determine length of bans or to report on cross-project vandalism). ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 12:09, 19 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
