Juni Cortez[edit]

  • [narrating; after mentioning to the park girl that water parks close during the winter] Times are tough, but a guy's gotta do what he's gotta do. From saving cat's in trees... [cat meows] ..to finding lost toys... [he finds a lost toy] ...to helping people—hold on. [answers phone] Yeah? The OSS is looking for me? Look, I'm no longer an agent. I can't help you. Whatever it is, it's your problem. [annoyed] Leave me alone! [continues narrating] I've been burned by the agency; the OSS. So I left, no going back. I handle my own assignments now. Smaller in scale. I was saving up for something big. I was standing in line to buy my copy of the biggest virtual reality game in history. It goes online at midnight. Pretty exciting, I suppose.

Carmen Cortez[edit]

  • You'll have to go through me first... Game-Boy!
  • Juni! The Toymaker is the one who put grandpa in the wheel chair... 30 years ago.
  • She's the reason why this level is unwinnable. She's the deceiver.

  • [to his three other personalities] I don't mind talking to myself, but when you guys start to cut me outta the conversation. That's when it gets a little... strange.
  • Am I insane? [his Dictator personality] Completely.
  • Game... Over.
  • [posing as President Devlin after being freed from the game] I'm coming back. To settle the score. For imprisoning me! For using me!

  • Grandfather: [in a wheelchair] Don't touch; this is Corinthian leather.
  • Francis: Not that l'm rooting for anyone in particular, but that was a really cool move.

Man: Mr. Cortez. Your children called. Some sort of emergency.
Gregorio Cortez: [flies off]
Felix Gumm: Well, I'm their uncle.
[follows Gregorio]

Juni: Arnold, you should know, when we reach the end of the game...
Arnold: No. Don't tell me. I want it to be a surprise.
Juni: I'm sure it will be.

Juni: Wait! What's worse? Lava or Tinker Toys?!
Francis: Definitely Tinker Toys!

Devlin: Hello, Juni.
Juni: Mr. President?
Devlin: Oh, you can call me Devlin.
Juni: Weren't you already running the country when you were head of the OSS?
Devlin: Well, I was running the country, but since the OSS is a secret organization, no one knew it. I wanted the world to know that I was in charge, so I became President of the United States. It all depends upon your preference. Reality or perception. Perception works for me.
Juni: Well, I'm into reality, and the reality is nothing you can say will make me rejoin the OSS. That is why you called, isn't it?
Devlin: The OSS needs you to return.
Juni: I'm retired.
Devlin: Well, who's living perception now? The fact is, there is no retirement. Once an agent, always an agent. Now it's time for you to be a big boy and reinstate.
Juni: With all due respect, sir... [shakes his head] No.
Devlin: Well, then hold onto your seat, because here's the reality; Your sister's missing.

Agent Damage Report: [shows Juni the beta tester boys in their real life form] Cortez, are these the boys that were in the game with you? We tracked them through their e-mail addresses.
Juni: Yeah, that's them. They wouldn't know anything about-- [doesn't recognize the boys in their non-game form] Hey, wait a second. What happened to Francis the Brain, Arnold the Strong and Mr. Cool?
Francis: Well, in the real world, I'm not that smart.
Arnold: I'm not strong.
Rez: I'm not cool.
Juni: [exhales sharply] Reality check.
Francis: So, who are you out here in the real world?
Francesca Giggles: Special Agent Cortez, we need you.
Rez: [amazed] Whoa.
Juni: [boys stare at him in wonder] I'm just Juni Cortez.

Carmen: Lava Mountain.
Juni: Why is it that every video game has lava in it?
Francis: Technically, that's not true. There's no lava in Halo. [Carmen kicks a rock into the lava] And in Metroid, it's molten magma.
Carmen: Can't touch the lava, or it's Game Over.
Rez: But I have 6 lives left.
Carmen: Doesn't matter. You fall in, you lose.
Francis: The game's getting tougher, guys.
Juni: This is impossible.
Carmen: What do you think, Grandpa?
Valentin: Difficult.
Carmen: Let's go another way. Follow me, boys.
Juni: This doesn't make any sense.

Francis: You're The Guy.
Juni: I'm the Who?
Francis: The Guy. The guy from the poster. [turns around and points to the suit in the billboard] That guy.
Juni: [looks at the poster and is confused] No, wait a minute; I'm only looking for my sister. She's somewhere on Level 4. Then I'm heading out through Level 5.
Rez: So you can win the game?
Juni: I guess that's one way of putting it.
Francis: You see, according to the tech manual, if we find The Guy... [turns around and points to the poster] The Guy... he'll lead us through the unwinnable level.
Rez: Hey, just because he made out of the RoboCon in one piece doesn't mean he's The Guy.
Francis: He's the first I've ever seen to make it out with the power suit.
Rez: Man, give me a break. This wimp's a phony.
Francis: There's only one way to find out.
Rez: [turns around to see a racetrack behind him] Mega Race. The fastest, most dangerous race in the game world.

Rez: [after coming out of the lava thinking he'd be out of the game] I thought I was a goner. [spits lava out of his mouth]
Arnold: I saw all my points flashing away before my eyes. All I could hear was my father saying, "You blew it, Arnold! No untold riches for you!"

Toymaker: Thank you for freeing me, Valentin, but it's too late. Nothing can stop me, not even you.
Valentin: That's true. Only you can do that. You double-crossed us. The agency, your fellow agents and me. Your mistake cost me my legs! Well a mistake like that could only someone further into the dark, and it has. Look at you now.
Toymaker: But I gave you back your legs when you were in the game. I did that for you.
Valentin: Let me tell you all of the things I've missed in my life because of the accident you caused. I can't walk on the beach with my wife. I missed my daughter's birth and wedding. Shall I continue?
Juni: Grandpa. Don't.
Valentin: Now, let me tell you all the good things that came of it. Humility. Spirituality. Understanding. You've been living in fear of me all these years, but I've only been searching for you so I could tell you that I forgive you.
Toymaker: [slowly takes off his hat.] I've only dreamed I would hear you say something like that.
Valentin: Now the question is, "Can you forgive yourself?" It's never too late, Sebastian. Take your time. Take your time to decide. We have about... 10 seconds.
Sebastian: [his hand is on the on/off switch] Game... [flips the switch to the off position] ... Over.
Gregorio: [sees robot collapse] Juni, get out of there!
[Juni runs away as the robot collapses. Juni is sad, thinking Valentin died until he sees him emerge from the head]
Juni: [happily] Grandpa!
[Gregorio sees Sebastian emerge with Valentin, and salutes at him.]
Donnagon Giggles: So, wait a minute. Who won? [Francesca taps him]
Valentin: It's not whether you win or lose.
Sebastian: It's how you play the game.

[last lines]
Sebastian: [after he and everyone else say "To family."] And...break!
