New Year's resolution

[edit]

Happy New Year! One of my New Year's resolutions is to finish Wikiquote:Bartlett's 1919 Index - but I can't do it alone. There are 234 red links for which articles need to be created, and 275 blue links for which articles need to be checked. Although I've been trying to get one done each day, lately I have not had time to do even that! Please consider making a commitment to help me keep my resolution by creating or checking one entry on this page per week. Help public domain quotes find their home in 2008! Cheers! Thank you for the Welcome ;) Danilo P 23:51, 2 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

What's with the welcomebot?

[edit]

What is up with the welcomebot and how do you know if it malfuntions? Wikipedia page 18:03, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

How exactly would it malfunction? You can see the source code yourself. If it dies, I'll just reboot next time I check if it's working. I also suggest that you link to your userpage/username here and then your Wikipedia page, i.e. Blood Lines of Darknesswikipedia. Cbrown1023 talk 21:25, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello

[edit]

Hello, and thank you for welcoming me with your bot. Like my sig? TAR-fan 21:18, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

No problem. Your sig looks fine, but I suggest you auto-subst it, i.e. {{subst:TARfan Sig}} so you don't cause database troubles when you update it. Cbrown1023 talk 21:25, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
It is! TAR-fan 21:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't seem to be autosubst'ed, check the page source, I see {{TARfan Sig}} 21:53, 10 May 2008 (UTC). Cbrown1023 talk 22:49, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Fixed! TAR-fan
That didn't really work, just add TAR-fan to your preferences in the "nickname" spot and make sure that "Raw signatures (without automatic link)" is checked. Cbrown1023 talk 00:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Could you "adopt" me? Is there such a a program on WQ? TAR-fan
We don't have such a program at Wikiquote. However, you can always ask questions on the Village pump or to members of the Welcoming Committee/administrators. Cbrown1023 talk 00:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

WelcomeBot uses {{PAGENAME}}

[edit]

Hi! I was just welcomed by your friendly bot. Thanks! :)
However I noticed WelcomeBot talked to me directly ("Hi Church of emacs") however in edit mode it is displayed as "Hi {{PAGENAME}}." (which is not as friendly, imho :-/). A simple change should fix this:

{{PAGENAME}} → {{<includeonly>subst:</includeonly>PAGENAME}}

This way PAGENAME is converted to the relevant username when WelcomeBot saves the page. (You should test if this works though, as I am not 100% sure). --Church of emacs 17:41, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think that was so that the new users can see the wiki-syntax. But you can edit the welcome message yourself, see Template:Welcome! .:-) Cbrown1023 talk 21:52, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
{{<includeonly>subst</includeonly>:PAGENAME}} should work, I tested it (1/2). Template:Welcome is protected from editing. Could you perhaps change the template? :) --Church of emacs 19:22, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, didn't notice that it was sysop protected! :-) Added to the page, thanks. Cbrown1023 talk 23:28, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Greetings
