Please be careful with the term "vandalism"
[edit]Thank you for removing the quote in Benoît Mandelbrot that was attributed to "some math homework I have", which is obviously not a reliable source. ☺ However, I would caution you on using the word "vandalism" for such an edit, as you did in your edit summary. "Vandalism" has a very specific, negative connotation in the Wikimedia Foundation projects, namely, "any addition, deletion, or change to content, made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of the encyclopedia". It is better to assume good faith and consider such an edit a misguided but honest attempt to provide a source line than to attribute it to intentional harm, unless there is specific evidence that user was performing malicious edits. In the latter case, it's good to mention that evidence. If it's too unwiedly for an edit summary, you can post it on the user or IP address's talk page, so that other editors are informed of the problem. Thank you for your assistance in this. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 12:00, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
