Sourcing quotes

[edit]

Please note that the bare links to quotation websites, like the ones you provided for quotes in College football, are not acceptable sources. Quote websites are notoriously unreliable, more of an electronic rumor mill than serious source. Wikimedia projects like Wikiquote require reliable sources like established print publications, commercial audiovisual productions, and websites with professional editorial review. Second, a source should be as close as possible to the original. Quote websites rarely ever even bother to identify the original source, like a book, speech, newspaper article, etc., or any date that might help Wikquotians verify quotes. We also discourage bare links, instead recommending a sourcing format (similar to Wikipedia's preferred referencing styles) that explicitly states specific information about the source, like work title, date, publisher, and ISBN or other ID number if possible. (See Wikiquote:Templates for some examples of source formatting.) Please add this information to your quotes, or they will have to be moved to the "Unsourced" section. Thank you for your cooperation. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 01:30, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
