Please Feel Free to continue ;) I've incorporated the discussed style. Feel free to suggest/make improvements. I hope what i have done is reasnobly easy to work out and follow. Hi All. I'm looking forward to working with other CAD fans to make this resource large and well-structured.
I think it should be a good idea to have all comics linked back to the original comic(s).

I agree it would make it better. I would like to point out the formatting work I did on Sluggy Freelance and The Order of the Stick in order to make the information presentable and verifiable. Thanks ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 14:10, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then, i believe we should sort quotes by year of comic, each year being included in the contents. Each quote should have a link back to its original comic. (Possibly in the form Comic: Comic Name or Original Comic: Comic Name). All of the formatting should be standard. I think stick to proper grammar. Don't capatalise unnecessary things, unless you deem the entire word worthy of capatalisation. Tim often puts emphasis on certain words. In the comic it appearrs a s a bold-italic, perhaps we should folow the same convetion? Redefined89 08:57, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Did you see the formatting I chose for The Order of the Stick? I used 2nd level headers for groups of 10 strips, and each quote contained a link to the archives with a number. I used TV-like formatting, because it is well adapted to dialogues in a visual context. I intend, at some point, to turn Dinosaur Comics to this formatting too... Following is an example ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 09:07, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chef Brian: I shall live in these commodious cakes of the pan!
Ok, I'm happy with formatting the quotes that way. But to be honest I wold prefer the name of the comic to be included and i would prefer chronological grouping. Is there any particular benefit in the "groups of 10" method? Redefined89 09:12, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you intend...could you format an example (preferably, the same quote above, so we'd be able to compare)? I used group-of-10 in OOTS because the strips are not well-dated, and there aren't "official" arcs. I used chapters in Sluggy Freelance because that seemed natural there. I might suggest level-2 headers for years and level-3 headers for months in CAD...I definitely would not go with a header-per-strip since this is header inflation and most strips have one good quotation if that. ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 09:21, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No, i agree with the TV-like formatting that you suggested. I think it looks clean and professional. All i was suggesting was the way they are grouped. In fact i strongly agree with level-2 headers for years and level-3 headers for months. I also agree that each strip does not need its own header.

Formatting practice[edit]

Nice work so far! I have several comments:

  • You're using level-3 headers for years and level-4 headers for months: that's probably too deep. But it's not a big deal, this can be easily fixed later in one go :)
  • You're using a format which I think is less good: the strip's link is at the bottom of the quote rather than at the beginning, and it's not indented. This can also be fixed later, and so is not a big deal.
  • There are quite a few unnecessary context comments. Remember that wikiquote is not a fan site: context lines should only be kept when they are necessary to the quotation.

TV formatting is an uphill battle with wikiformatting, so it takes some experience getting the formatting right. Thanks for your work. ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 12:47, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

PS. The TOC is a bit long now. I will attempt to make a custom TOC later when the page stablises a bit more (auto-TOC is easier when the page changes a lot). ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 12:48, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I Will get around to adressing all of these things and finshing the last bit of december 2002. I'm actually away for 3 days as of tommorow so I will have to adress these things after then.

Status report[edit]

All quotations but 1 are sorted, all quotations follow following format:

:''[url-to-strip Month Day, Year "Strip Title"]''
:'''Character1''': Lalalla
:'''Character2''': Lolololo

Sections are by year, subsections are by month. Inside each month, quotations are separated using a half-width rule:

In the case there are two quotations from the same strip, the second time the quotation header should again have the same text, but without a link:

:''[url-to-strip Month Day, Year "Strip Title"]''
:'''Character1''': Lalalla
:'''Character2''': Lolololo
<hr width="50%"/>
:''Month Day, Year "Strip Title"''
:'''Character1''': More pithiness
:'''Character2''': Heheh

Comments on the new format will be welcomed. Thanks ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 09:22, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Looks fantastic! Well Done on getting so much done whilst i was away! I will sort through 2003 sometime and filter ourselves some nice quotes. Redefined89 09:36, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issue[edit]

I've flagged this article for possible copyright violation, because it appears to contain most of the content of each of the comics it lists, and there are a considerable number of issues quoted, placing this well beyond any reasonable definition of "fair use". I ask involved editors to trim this article down to a much smaller subset. Thank you for your assistance. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 09:46, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Since most of the comics are only four panels, for the quote to make sense, often the majority of the comic does need to be quotes. However, I do think the section on the animated series should be trimmed down immensly, as it seems to just be a transcript of the entire episode. 203.206.104.144 02:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's a real problem with comics, I agree. But the fact that it's hard to quote only part of a strip doesn't give Wikiquote the right to quote large numbers of mostly-complete strips. How many strips have been published of this comic? What percentage of this count is being quoted? This information might help us determine if we're likely to get into copyright trouble. Thanks for any infomation you might have. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 03:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the article, I really don't think a large portion of the CAD archive have been quoted. None of the serious comics appear, and there are very little comics from about early 2005 onwards. Also, I would say only about a third of the quotes included in there are the entire comics, a large amount are simply a line or two. These are just rough estimates though. 131.181.251.66 02:28, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can you give me a number? How many strips have been published? That would give us a percentage of ones quoted. Unless this percentage is very small, having 1/3 of the quotes cited in their entirety would probably be bad. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:28, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There have been about 17 comics published every month since October, 2002. That means there have been about 952 comics published so far, as well as seven episodes of the animated series. 58 of the comics have been quoted in this article, as well as one episode of the animated series. 203.206.104.144 02:59, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
