Two Worlds. One hero.

  • Once, mankind accepted a simple truth: that they were not alone in this universe. Some worlds man believed home to their Gods. Others they knew to fear. From around the cold and darkness came the Frost Giants, threatening to plunge the mortal world into a new ice age. But humanity would not face this threat alone. Our armies drove the Frost Giants back into the heart of their own world. The cost was great. In the end, their king fell, and the source of their power was taken from them. With the last great war ended, we withdrew from the other worlds and returned home at the Realm Eternal, Asgard. And here we remain as the beacon of hope, shining out across the stars. And though we have fallen into man's myths and legends, it was Asgard and its warriors that brought peace to the universe.

[Incensed about Thor and the Warriors Three's mission to Jotunheim, Odin brings them back to Asgard]
Thor: Why did you bring us back?
Odin: Do you realize what you've done? What you've started?
Thor: I was protecting my home.
Odin: You cannot even protect your friends! How can you hope to protect a kingdom? [speaking to Heimdall] Get him to a healing room! Now!
Thor: There won't be a kingdom to protect if you're afraid to act. The Jotuns must learn to fear me, just as they once feared you.
Odin: That's pride and vanity talking, not leadership. You've forgotten everything I taught you about a warrior's patience.
Thor: While you wait and be patient, The Nine Realms laugh at us. The old ways are done. You'd stand giving speeches while Asgard falls.
Odin: You are a vain, greedy, cruel boy!
Thor: And you are an old man and a fool!
Odin: Yes. I was a fool to think you were ready.
Loki: Father...
Odin: [to Loki] HEY! [to Thor] Thor Odinson, you have betrayed the express command of your king. Through your arrogance and stupidity, you have opened these peaceful realms and innocent lives to the horror and desolation of war! You are unworthy of these realms! You're unworthy of your TITLE! YOU'RE UNWORTHY!.. of the loved ones you have betrayed. I now take from you your power! In the name of my father and his father before, I, Odin Allfather, CAST YOU OUT! [banishes Thor to Earth] Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor. [throws Mjolnir to Earth]

Odin: STOP! (Loki sets down the Casket of Ancient Winters, but doesn't turn around)
Loki:... Am I cursed?
Odin: No.
Loki: Then what am I?
Odin:... You're my son. (Loki turns around to reveal that touching the Casket has turned his skin blue, exactly like the Frost Giants)
Loki: (as his appearance returns to normal)... What more than that? (approaches Odin) The Casket wasn't the only thing you took from Jotunheim that day, was it?
Odin: ...No. In the aftermath of the battle, I went into the temple... and I found a baby. Small, for a Giant's offspring. Abandoned, suffering, left to die... Laufey's son.
Loki: (stunned)...Laufey's son?
Odin:... Yes.
Loki: (stares up at Odin)... Why? You were knee-deep in Jotun blood- why would you take me?
Odin: You were an innocent child.
Loki: No, you took me for a purpose. What was it? (Odin doesn't answer) TELL ME!
Odin: ...I thought we could unite our kingdoms, one day- bring about an alliance, bring about a permanent peace- through you. (Loki looks hurt and angry) But those plans no longer matter.
Loki: So, I am no more than another stolen relic- locked up here, until you might have use of me!
Odin: Why do you twist my words?
Loki: You could've told me who I was from the beginning- why didn't you?!
Odin: You're my son. I wanted only to protect you from the truth.
Loki: Why, because I- I am the monster parents tell their children about at night?!
Odin: No-
Loki: (furious) You know, it all makes sense now- why you favored Thor all these years! (Odin sinks to the floor, weakening) Because no matter how much you claimed to LOVE me, you could never have a Frost Giant sitting on the Throne of Asgard!

[Odin reaches for Loki as he collapses and goes into Odinsleep. Loki looks shocked and frightened as he touches Odin's hand]

Loki: GUARDS! Guards, please, help!

Clint Barton/ Hawkeye: (watching Thor beat up a guard as he aims an arrow at him) Better call it, Coulson- 'cause I'm starting to root for this guy.

[Thor and Jane are on the roof sitting next to a fire. Thor sees Jane suddenly go quiet]
Thor: What's wrong?
Jane Foster: S.H.I.E.L.D. Whatever they are, they're gonna do everything in their power to make sure this research never sees the light of day.
Thor: No, Jane. Listen to me. You must not give up. You must finish what you've started.
Foster: Why?
Thor: Because you're right. Here, look. [opens her notebook] Your ancestors called it magic and you call it science. Well, I come from a place where they're one and the same thing. [Thor is connecting the circles in her notebook]
Foster: What is that?
Thor: My father explained it to me like this, that your world is one of the Nine Realms of the Cosmos, linked to each other by the branches of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. Now you see it everyday without realizing. The images glimpsed through... What did you call it? This Hooble Telescope.
Foster: Hubble.
Thor: Hubble Telescope.
Foster: Tell me more.
Thor: So, the Nine Realms. [points to circles] Now, there is Midgard, which is Earth. This is Alfheim. Vanaheim. Jotunheim. And Asgard. And that's where I come from.

[A S.H.I.E.L.D. patrol notices a massive robotic figure near town]
Agent Jasper Sitwell: [staring at the Destroyer] Is that one of Stark's?
Agent Phil Coulson: I don't know. The guy never tells me anything.

[Thor approaches the Destroyer]
Thor: Brother, whatever I have done to wrong you, whatever I have done to lead you to do this, I am truly sorry. But these people are innocent. Taking their lives will gain you nothing. So take mine and end this. [The Destroyer deactivates for a moment but then lashes at Thor, throwing him back and severely injuring him]
Jane Foster: No. [runs for Thor]
Thor: It's over.
Foster: No. It's not over.
Thor: I mean, you're safe.
Foster: We're safe.
Thor: It's over. [Thor dies]
Foster: No…no… [begins to cry and the Destroyer walks away. Thor's sacrifice proves him worthy again, and Mjolnir returns to revive him in an impressive display of electricity; Foster is stunned] Oh. My. God.

Jane Foster: (sees Thor wearing his armor)... So is this what you look like all the time?
Thor: More or less.
Jane Foster: (nods)... It's a good look.

Laufey: (preparing to kill Odin as he lies in Odinsleep) It's said... you can still hear and see what transpires around you. I hope it's true... so that you may know, your death came at the hand of Laufey. (as Laufey raises an ice dagger to stab Odin, he is suddenly wounded by an energy blast fired by Loki, who wields Odin's staff)
Loki: And your death came by the son of Odin. (fires another blast at Laufey, killing him)

[Thor arrives at the Bifrost Bridge portal to see that Loki has rigged it to destroy Jotunheim]

Loki: You can't stop it. The Bifrost will build, until it rips Jotunheim apart!

[Thor attempts to shatter the portal controls with Mjolner, but Loki blasts him away with Odin's staff. On Jotunheim, the Frost Giants flee in terror as the Bifrost energy strikes the surface]

Thor: Why have you done this?!
Loki: To prove to Father that I am the worthy son! When he wakes, I will have saved his life, I will have destroyed that race of monsters, and I will be true heir to the throne!
Thor: You can't kill an entire race!
Loki: Why not? (smirks, approaches Thor) And what is this newfound love for the Frost Giants? You could've killed them all with your bare hands.
Thor: I'm changed.
Loki: So am I. (strikes Thor in the face with Odin's staff) Now fight me. (hits him even harder, knocking him backwards) I never wanted the Throne! I only ever wanted to be your equal.
Thor: (stands up as Loki circles him) I will not fight you, brother!
Loki: I'm not your brother. I never was.
Thor: Loki, this is madness!
Loki: Is it madness? Is it? (enraged by Thor's lack of reaction) Is it?! Come on- what happened to you on Earth that turned you so soft?! Don't tell me it was that woman? (Thor stares at him impassively) Oh- it was. Well maybe, when we're finished here, I'll pay her a visit myself! (finally enrages Thor enough to make him fight)

[Loki sees Thor try to destroy the Bifrost Bridge]
Loki: What are you doing? If you destroy the Bridge, you'll never see her again! [gets up and tries to prevent Thor from destroying the Bridge]
Thor: Forgive me, Jane.
[Loki tries to stab him with Gungnir but he manages to destroy the Bifrost Bridge and save Jotunheim. The ensuing explosion sends them both flying in the air only to be caught by Odin before they fall over the Bridge]
Loki: I could have done it, Father! I could have done it! For you! For all of us!
Odin: No, Loki.
Thor: Loki, no! [Loki lets go and falls into space] No!
Odin: No. (he and Thor weep as Loki vanishes)
Jane Foster: [sees anomaly disappear on telescope] It's gone.

[Thor approaches Heimdall who still remains Gatekeeper even with the Bifrost destroyed]
Thor: So Earth is lost to us...
Heimdall: No. There is always hope.
Thor: Can you see her?
Heimdall: Yes.
Thor: How is she?
Heimdall: [sees Jane fiddling at lab] She searches for you.

[Dr. Selvig wanders around an underground base]
Nick Fury: [greeting him] Dr. Selvig.
Dr. Erik Selvig: So, you're the man behind all this? It's quite a labyrinth. I was thinking that you had taken me down here to kill me.
Fury: I've been hearing about the New Mexico situation. Your work has impressed a lot of people who are much smarter than I am.
Selvig: I had a lot to work with: the Foster theory, a gateway to another dimension... it's unprecedented...isn't it?
Fury: Legend tells us one thing; history, another. But, every now and then, we find something that belongs to both. [opens a suitcase, which contains a small cube]
Selvig: What is it?
Fury: Power, Doctor. If we figure out how to tap it, maybe unlimited power.
Loki: [appears, invisible, in a mirror and whispers to Selvig] Well, I guess that's worth a look.
Selvig: Well, I guess that's worth a look. [smiles]
