Hi Writtenright. Welcome to English Wikiquote.

Enjoy! Cbrown1023 talk 01:30, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What fault, good sir?[edit]

Why?

I am curious to know why you reverted the quote I had posted on the "Environmentalism" page. Writtenright 03:17, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Writtenright[reply]

I'm still wondering

Aphaia-san:

I am still wondering why you reverted my addition to the "Environmentalism" page. I assume that there is a reason.Writtenright 18:13, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Writtenright[reply]

Fain would I ken thine innermost design

Fain would I ken thine innermost design/ For having done thy bold deletion new;/ And, having lost fore'er a text of mine,/ I only seek to ken thy point of view./Writtenright 18:29, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Writtenright[reply]

The writer, abject, plaineth for good cause

Thou mayst, as is thy wont, "revert", "delete"/ Those lines which thou thyself may deem not meet;/ But I do only beg for reason true,/ And that thou wouldst explain thy point of view./ Writtenright 06:27, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Writtenright[reply]

What fault, good sir?

I have my point of view, as thou hast thine,/ Regarding what be base and what be fine./ What fault, good sir, did lie within my text?/ I bid thee but explain, for I am vexed./ Writtenright 03:04, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Writtenright[reply]

Pray sir, fret not into a tizzy
Aphaia's, with divers wikis, busy
Nor might she kenn your fine rhymed line
As English b'not her favored wine
Some patience must we ask you please
Her native tongue is Japanese
So, in her stead, might I suggest
To cease this chat; be not a pest
Do not your reputation worsen
She gave her cause at "famous person"
Tho I had not agreed with that
I 'fessed reluctance to look at
The general bind of round'bout quote
Of bumper stickers others wrote
The wisest course to make your case
Is posting in the proper place
The talk page of the subject hence
Is where to 'scribe your evidence
And argue for the chosen quip
Then let the controversy rip
Or, failing that, a silent crowd
Would indicate the quote allow'd
In any case, to aid your task
Feel free, if any questions, ask

Wikiquote is not a forum of poetry[edit]

To look at it a different way, perhaps, consider that talk pages are intended to help users work out issues. Penning a few clever verses to call attention to a problem is amusing and did serve its purpose, but continued use of rhyming iambic meter and archaisms fails to serve any real purpose other than to (A) show us your wit, which you've certainly convinced me is considerable; and (B) annoy people who are trying to conduct Wikiquote business using modern English prose, the lingua franca of en:WQ. I intentionally linked the poetic "pest" with w:Wikipedia:Troll to warn you (perhaps too subtly) that carrying on lengthy communciations that annoy Wikiquotians who are trying to get work done can easily be considered "trolling", and is a blocking offense. I think this particular "beau jest" has run its course.
It doesn't help that your latest offering has a tone of condescension to it. Aphaia is probably more wiki-experienced than you and I combined. She also is one of our advocates for avoiding too much bias against notable but non-English works, so suggesting that she is missing "subtle games" because she's from "Nihon's fabled plains", while implying that the road to this "brave new world" is through England and America, and failing to demonstrate your own awareness of en:Wikiquote's brave new world (from your perspective), isn't very wise.
I might also mention that, although Aphaia has generally welcomed small tweaks to her posts for spelling or grammar, even I (whom she generally trusts) confine these to changes that are strictly necessary to make the meaning clear. (I'm sure you know that changing users' posts is normally highly discouraged, and is another blocking offense.) Making a bunch of changes to the leading text of the talk page of someone who you've already managed to annoy is quite rash.
In summary, you've managed to hit quite a few sore spots of at least two longtime Wikiquote editors in less than 20 edits in 9 days. Frankly, if I were you, I'd concentrate on regular article work and following policies and practices closely in your edits for a while. ☺ (Of course, if your "Ships cannot stay" quote is meant as a comment on your experience thus far and a kind of farewell, this may not be an issue for you. But I would hope than an experienced Wikipedian could understand that it is important to work with people, not to taunt them, especially when one enters a new project, as they all have unique communities.) ~ Jeff Q (talk) 08:49, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
