I request bot flag to my bot

  • Operator: User:Goldenburg111
  • Purpose: Welcomes new users (more to come later)
  • Script used: Python wiki
  • Already has the bot flag on: Trying it out for the first time...
  • Note: A minor one, please help with scripts, since I am not familiar with these scripts. Thanks!

Thank you. --~~Goldenburg111 01:38, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

thank you Glashier , I will create the account shortly. --~~Goldenburg111 13:19, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@PiRSquared17: yes, from Betacommand at IRC, he stated the he added the welcome script into my bot scripts. So once changed to bot status, I hope to see the bot working.
@User:Ningauble: I am trying to get a python programmar at Wikipedia to create one... I'll notify you at the last day of this vote. --~~Goldenburg111 19:26, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see that the purpose of the bot has changed from "To add {{Unsigned}}..." to "Welcomes new users..." This request may be premature until such time as you are prepared to demonstrate a sample run of the specific script for which you are requesting permission. ~ Ningauble (talk) 01:51, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do we really want a bot to welcome people? ~ DanielTom (talk) 21:51, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • A bit wary of welcomebot scripts, which are quite a contentious issue on Wikipedia, and would much prefer a personalized message like "if you have any questions, please ask on my talkpage", but here are some questions if this proposal passes:
      1. Most pressing concern is, do you have an email address? Per bot policy, operators must be contactable.
      2. Will this script also welcome IPs? I prefer not to since they change hands very quickly; one day it will be a constructive editor, the next probably a vandal, and I don't like the idea of adding welcome messages to someone who might not even receive it.
      3. Will it readd the welcome script to talkpages that have already been deleted due to spam, vandalism, etc? Or if the user has already been blocked for other reasons?
      4. Will this script welcome contributors regardless of the amount of edits they make or whether they have been constructive or not?

I request bot flag to my bot

  • Operator: Ladsgroup (talk)
  • Purpose: Removing interwiki links when they migrated to Wikidata
  • Script used: Based on Pywikibot
  • Already has the bot flag on: global bot, several other wikis, Wikidata
  • Note: In April 8th Wikiquate starts getting interwiki links from Wikidata (like Wikipedia, Wikisource, and Wikivoyage) so interlinks won't be necessary. My bot did the task of connecting pages of Wikipedia, Wikisource, and Wikivoyage before (and It had the responsibility of removing iw links from that Wikis). My bot already did this task very successfully and It has more than 12M edits in Wikidata which more than 10% of them are about connecting pages and items.

Thank you. --Ladsgroup (talk) 13:44, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ladsgroup: So the bot while actually start running on April 8th? --~~Goldenburg111 17:55, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
yes Ladsgroup (talk) 08:48, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can {{done}} this request, just wait until an official bureaucrat here gives your bot the rights. --Goldenburg111 20:49, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I don't recall anyone actually asking the community whether we want data from this external wiki showing up in our pages. I guess this is something that was decided globally. ~ Ningauble (talk) 21:30, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
User:Ningauble: yes, this is a global. Wikidata links will be accepted on wikiquote on April 8, 2014. I am pretty sure that this is not a bad idea to allow this bot to run. It also doesn't hurt here too. --Goldenburg111 21:51, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Having previously had occasion to fix incorrect or obsolete interwiki links, I do not relish the prospect of going to a separate wiki, with an unfamiliar community using a completely different structure and vocabulary, in order to address these issues. I will probably just give up on any attempt to monitor and curate this aspect of Wikiquote pages. If an interwiki link is wrong then it is up to the global people to notice it and fix it. ~ Ningauble (talk) 22:09, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. It will be our job to fix things like this and that would be amazing because we that already on Wikipedia and fixed lots of interwiki conflict in a very more complicated sets of Wikis (Wikipedia languages) and it won't be very to do same here Ladsgroup (talk) 17:00, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
