Citing Wikipedia articles in transwikis

[edit]

I see that you have been transferring many quotes from Wikipedia articles here. There is a process called transwiki to do such material transfer to avoid violating the w:GFDL under which editors' contributions are properly credited. One provision is that there is a link to the originating article or an edit history that shows who contributed to the article that has been moved between projects.

Recent developments at Wikiquote have suggested that, in order to comply with GFDL, any transfers like this should include a specific link to the originating article either in the edit summary or on the target article's discussion page (e.g., "transferred quotes from w:Cesare Pugni"). Simply saying "from the Wikipedia article" allows the link trace to the originating article to be broken if either project moves around its articles for renaming or merging.

Please add these specific links when you do quote transfers. Thank you. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 20:51, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
