Political hitjobs and POV-pushing
[edit]Hi Joreberg. You are adding quotes that are fine in and of themselves, but with sources that are often biased and almost invariably insulting of Trump/Pence, apparently used merely for their journalistic titles which are political attacks and often not even directly connected to the quotations themselves as in this instance or here – surely you can find more neutral sources? Or would that go against your POV-pushing goal here? I note that your descriptions also tend to be POV-pushing and sometimes with no support in the cited sources: for example here you say that the protester who was shoved by the police was "handled brutally" when this is not established and is merely an opinion, one which you are attempting to pass off as Wikiquote's view of what happened. This is classic POV-pushing. I appreciate that you want to make Trump look as bad as possible; my concern is if you keep this up Wikiquote will be the one looking bad. Please read Wikiquote:Neutral point of view. ~ DanielTom (talk) 19:52, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Joreberg
It's getting pretty lonely at DT without you. Hope everything is OK? Ottawahitech (talk) 03:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the great link
[edit]I would not have seen this: https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-calls-fox-news-unwatchable-criticism-newsmax-2020-11?r=US&IR=T if it wasn't for your quote earlier today on DT. I am getting a crash course on American politics and elections, and now about which stations to watch. When I started this journey a short few weeks ago, I thought CNN & MSNBC was pro democrats, Fox & CNBC pro Republicans. I have since learned that it is much more complicated and that all stations have good and bad anchors (and a few reporters)
I believe I first saw Bob Woodward and Jonathan Swan of Axios interview Trump on Fox. Jonathan Swan was almost begging Trump, explaining to him that he was hoping to portray him in a good light -- to no avail. I was thinking back to this interview with Trump when I was watching Maria Bartiromo employing the same techniques this morning, again to no avial. Trump seems to plow right over anyone who is trying to steer him into more productive behavior. Chris Wallace is another excellent Fox interviewer that Trump managed to turn off.
Even the great Bob Woodward ended up criticizing Trump, something he said he had never done before, something self-respecting reporters shy away from. Great reporters report the news not make the news, something that seems impossible when dealing with Trump.
Then there was the failed Sixty Minutes program when Trump walked off in a huff...
Anyway it looks like I am out of luck, since I don't believe I'll be able to watch Newsmax where Trump is heading to (until he leaves them in a huff). If it wasn't for COVID I would have been thoroughly entertained by all these Trump maneuvers, but as it stands it is plain SADǃ

Impeachment hearings
[edit]Hi Joreberg,
I cannot find any videos of the explosive evidence unfolding during the Second impeachment of Donald Trump. I think it will illustrate the situation better than any quotes. o you know of any? Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 01:32, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

(potential) Bias
[edit]I’ve noticed you have mainly added quotes about far-right (mainly russian) politicians, do support their beliefs, or are just interested in their quotes? – Ilovemydoodle (Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus) (talk / e-mail) 13:04, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- The selected Russian politicians are not necessarily far-right, seen from a Russian perspective. Putin, Lavrov, Peskov and so on are representatives of the ruling government in Russia, just like the TV hosts of the government-controlled TV stations. Likewise, I have added quotes from Trump, who was US president. In their own cultures, all of these should be regarded as mainstream politicians and influencers with support from a large part of the population.
- I find it interesting and important to follow and inform about what mainstream, ruling politicians say about the world. I do not necessarily share their beliefs.
- You do have a point. From a liberal perspective, one might regard Putin, Lavrov, Peskov, Trump and so on as far-right politicians. But in Wikipedia, Wikiquote and so on, our task is not about judging people on a left-right dimension, but rather to present reality and how important people relate to reality. I expect that some will find the quotes informative and practical, while others might perhaps find them alarming, like the page I will be making now, with the Russian Duma member Gurulyov revealing that in case of another world war, Russia will be bombing London before Warsaw, Paris or Berlin. A new article at ENWQ
[edit]Hi Joreberg,
Have you seen this?. I doubt it will last long, but I am wondering about the video (Skating on Sea Ice) showing him licking a pole near a frozen body of salt water, which means, I think(?), a very low temperature. How come his tongue does not stick to the pole? Ottawahitech (talk) 16:24, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- The freezing point of salt water is close to -2 degrees Centigrade. If the temperature of the ice is lower, the ice will gradually become thicker, while when the temperature is higher, the ice will gradually become thinner. So while the presence of ice says something about temperature, it is not a very precise indicator of temperature at one specific moment in time.
- Also, the water temperature and the air temperature are usually different. At one point in the video, there was water on top of the ice, implying that the air temperature was or had recently been higher than -2 C.
- In the video I saw him licking a pole that seemed to be made of wood. That is not a problem. Wood is a good heat insulator, so the heat from your breath and the heat from the blood circulation in your tongue will keep the temperature of the licked point above 0 C, even at very low temperatures in the air and the wood. The same holds for licking a metal object at temperature e.g. at -2 C.
- Licking a piece of metal at -15 C is a very different story. I tried that in my childhood, and I didn't do it again. I don't have statistics on this, but my guess is that many Norwegians have tried the same. Once.
- It's fun that you added these quotes to WikiQuote, thank you :-) There is currently no active moderator on the Norwegian WikiQuote, so the quotes will likely stay there :-) I hadn't heard of that person before, and his quotes are maybe not extremely influential, but they will appeal to his fans. From the Wikipedia page about him, it seems that the quotes you selected were quite characteristic. May he rest in peace.
- Viken county was formed by combining a few other counties quite recently, so I can very well imagine that you can find maps that have not been updated properly. "Viken" means "The bay", and is basically a region close to the Oslo Fjord. Joreberg (talk) 18:04, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
- Wow, you are knowledgeable! Just a little correction: it was not me who added the article it was User:2601:5c7:4100:3600:78f2:802:133e:648. I just added some links. Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 19:11, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
:BTW where exactly is Viken county? I think there conflicting maps on
