Welcome[edit]

Hello, Monochrome Monitor, and welcome to the English Wikiquote, a free compendium of quotations written collaboratively by people just like you!

To ask for advice or assistance feel free to drop by the Village Pump or ask on my talk page. Happy editing! And again, welcome!

Thanks for your recent contributions, but quotes should have citations to published or otherwise recorded sources. I just added a source and a variant to one you recently added, but there are more you have added which will need sources. ~ Kalki·· 23:52, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

When I moved some recently added quotes to the talk page, I was not moving quotes about Bankhead there, as sections for quotes about people are a standard section for many pages — I was simply moving unsourced quotes there, of which a few were about her, and most were attributed to here without clear citations from published works, which is something which has been against policy here for many years.

In the very little work which I have had time to do here recently, I had done just a few standard sourcing citations on one of the recent quotes you had added to the page, and might do more eventually, because I agree that some of the quotes are notable and should be presented, with citations, but unless they have these, they should remain on the talk page. I might source some of these within the next week if no one else does, but I again don’t have much time to spend here today, and will probably be leaving again in a few minutes. ~ Kalki·· 22:04, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The current arrangement is also standard, where for pages for individuals, there are general quotes from various sources, in chronological order, so much as possible, followed by sections of quotes from specific sources, also in chronological order, which are often used where there are more than 2 or 3 of these. ~ Kalki·· 22:07, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Alright then. Perhaps I was mistaken in thinking the standard formatting was "sourced, attributed", like in Bette Davis. Funny how I used her page as the control. Monochrome Monitor (talk) 22:20, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Casual removals of sourced quotes is not a contributive function[edit]

I have restored some quotes you removed from the Marlon Brando page and removed a quote which does not match the version provided in the rather dubious source you cite. Though it is quite credible that Sinatra said something in such terms, and there might be numerous sources to be found, I don’t have time to seek them right now, and the version you provided does not match the citation you provided. You seem interested in providing quotations here, and are welcome to do so, but removing sourced quotes simply because they do not suit your tastes is frowned upon even more than adding quotes without proper and sufficient sources. I have not been as vigilant here lately as I once was, but normal procedure is to provide a notice to those who engage in such behavior:

Please stop removing sourced content from Wikiquote. It is considered vandalism. If you want to experiment, please use the sandbox.
Wikiquote exists for the collecting of notable quotations of famous people and famous works. For a quick overview of what Wikiquote is, read Wikiquote:Wikiquote, and also What Wikiquote is not for a list of common activities that Wikiquote does not support.
When people are not interested in responsibly contributing to the development of the project incidents of their deliberate vandalism can result in IP addresses or usernames being blocked from editing.
Thank you. ~ Kalki·· 22:52, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I do think the thing about Streetcar is outrageous though. Saying he changed theater is just absurd. Monochrome Monitor (talk) 23:00, 31 October 2015 (UTC) He conquered film, but his greatest citations for Streetcar were "most promising young actor". I mean, it's revisionism. Just because the great actors like Lunt, Barrymore, Olivier, etc, were never known for their film work doesn't mean the new generations can only speculate about their talents. I shouldn't have deleted the other quotes, but that one is ridiculous. Monochrome Monitor (talk) 23:05, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Eleonora Duse[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Eleonora Duse, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but it may not satisfy Wikiquote's criteria for inclusion, for the reasons given in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikiquote is not" and Wikiquote's deletion policy).

You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Votes for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ~ UDScott (talk) 20:53, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
