Request for bureaucratship
[edit]I am already an administrator (sysop), but have begun requesting "Bureaucrat" status for myself, so that more sysops can be created within the project, without having to go elsewhere for the recieving of sysop status. ~ Kalki 20:20, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support: Kalki is the most active sysop on this project and it is helpful that each project has its own bureaucrat. --Aphaia 17:36, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- More support. I didn't realize this project had any other sysops. He's running the show; might as well acknowledge it. --RPickman 18:45, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support. Clearly he is a busy bee around here. Are there any bureaucrats on this project? I see a list of Admin at the bottom of this page. Rmhermen 15:33, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support. Kalki has been, to me, by far the most useful human resource on Wikiquote (and we've got some really good folks here, too!). I've always been able to turn to him for help with tricky questions or issues, and he's been the most active admin on all the situations I've been involved in. — Jeff Q (talk) 23:14, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Became bureaucrat 31 March 2005.
Request for adminship
[edit]Sams (Iddo999)
[edit]Hello everyone, I'd like to be an admin here. I've been working mostly on the Noam Chomsky page so far, comments are welcomed of course... Thanks:) Sams 18:22, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for all the comments. Just adding a note here that I'm still interested... Sams 14:43, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Neutral: I don't know Sams personally and am afraid his activities and interests are "narrow and deep". I have seldom seen his maintenance activity or participant to discussion. But he seems to be on a good faith, therefore I am neutral on him. --Aphaia 10:04, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Support: Sams is currently active on both VP and VFD. He have a will to fight vandalism. Though he are still learning how the system works or policies are built, it doesn't mean he is too young to work as sysop on the project, I suppose. All of us are learning on this ever-growing project. And I think it is good for Wikquote sysop team to introduce a new blood. --Aphaia 18:49, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Support. Sams' general activity on the wiki has expanded since the March application for adminship, and some of my previous concerns that this activity perhaps exhibited too narrow a focus of interests has diminished. I believe most of us were then reluctant to make any definite assessments, based on the limited activity we had to go on, at that time. ~ Kalki 12:09, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Support: Sams has been increasing participation in VfD and fighting vandalism, and he was instrumental in getting our nascent IRC channel going. I think he'll be a useful addition to the sysop team. — Jeff Q (talk) 13:53, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Support. This should not be a big deal, as Jimbo has said. Everything I have seen about this (still quite new) user has been positive. jni 06:21, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Sams is now a sysop. ~ Kalki 04:12, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Sams, by request, was renamed to Iddo999 ~ Kalki 11:40, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
Nominations for adminship
[edit]I am nominating Jeff Q as an administrator (sysop) here. He has proven himself both a skillful and helpful user, with much to contribute. I have asked him if he is interested, and he has confirmed that he is. ~ Kalki 20:20, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Kalki has already mentioned that I accepted his nomination (via talk pages), but I see you'd like me to reply here, so here's my explicit acceptance. Thank you for your consideration, whatever you decide. — Jeff Q (talk) 23:17, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support. --Aphaia 17:40, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, I strongly support making Jeff Q an administrator. His knowledge is impressive. He's been a huge help in teaching me wiki basics, and has done so with commendable patience. --RPickman 16:52, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Became an admin (sysop) 31 March 2005
Aphaia is already an admin on the Japanese Wikiquote since August 2004, and has periodically created many interlang links with the Wikiquote projects in other languages, which is a very important way to help expand all the projects. I am thus nominating Aphaia for adminship here. ~ Kalki 13:35, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind introduction and notices, Kalki, I accept hereby your nomination gratefully. As Kalki refered, on Japanese Wikiquote I am active mainly, but I care for English Wikipedia, specially for promoting multilingualism of the entire Wikiquote project. it is therefore my great preasure to cotribute to this project being more involved. I will appliciate your consideration, whatever you will decide. --Aphaia 14:34, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Ah I forgot to add I had been a temp sysop on Ja.wq (and parmanent since last fall). Now I am a sysop on meta and Wikimania wiki, and an editor on the Foundation wiki. --Aphaia 17:40, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support. Aphaia's multilingual background can provide a uniquely useful perspective for the admin crew. — Jeff Q (talk) 07:36, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Became an admin (sysop) 31 March 2005
Rmhermen has been an administrator at the English Wikipedia since 5 July 2004, and has become very active here recently, performing many checks and cleanups of the articles. I am thus nominating him for adminship here. ~ Kalki 13:35, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I gratefully accept this nomination. Mostly I have been doing cleanup but I do own an old public domain copy of Bartlett's. I have also been trying to invigorate the category scheme. I suspect Kalki has nominated me because I nominated so many blank pages for deletion. Rmhermen 16:10, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support: according to the French Wikipedia (and other projects), if you visit frequently VfD, then you are in danger to nominate as a sysop candidate ... *g. Anyway the clean-up is one of main tasks of administrators, if I understand correctly. --Aphaia 17:44, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support: Knack for cleanup and proofreading are perfect for this particular project. --RPickman 18:49, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Support: Rmhermen's cleanup and maintenance efforts alone are an important aid to the growth of Wikiquote.— Jeff Q (talk) 23:44, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Became an admin (sysop) 31 March 2005
RPickman, while relatively new to the Wikimedia projects, has been an active and responsible contributor here since 31 December 2004, and has shown interest in considerably expanding the Movie quote articles. I am thus nominating him for adminship here. ~ Kalki 13:35, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I'm flattered by the nomination, but think I should decline. I'm still learning some pretty basic stuff (see most of Jeffq(talk) for partial details) and am still embarrassingly prone to blunders. I'm afraid at this point I'd potentially do more harm than good as an admin. I'd also be nearly useless in terms of giving pointers to newbies (aside from "contact an admin who knows what he's doing"). In short, I just don't think I'm up to the job - but again, thanks. ~ RPickman
- Since he is declining for now, this nomination will remain dormant until he feels more comfortable with things; but eventually, whenever he feels ready anytime in the months ahead, I believe he will make a good admin. That he is intent on helping the project grow, and has a proven will to act responsibly are definitely two of the things that matter most. ~ Kalki 01:02, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I nominate jni for a sysop candidate. Jni is fairly active on English Wikiquote with over 200 edits as for today. Jni has been active since April 8, very recent, so not a Wikiquote oldbies, but experienced on English Wikipedia as a sysop, and even we consider Jni's activities only on this wiki, Jni's edits prove this editor is skillful with a serious concern to the project, both on article edits, maintenance and on project related discussions like block policy. And Jni's attention to vandalism on this wiki is really respectable.
--Aphaia 09:12, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I'm glad to accept. Thanks Aphaia! Since I'm still relatively new user here, I would like to ask others to check also my contributions to other wikis, if they want to do a "background check". I have been dealing with vandals in English Wikipedia almost daily for last six months, and no (legitimate) user has complained so far. In Wikiquote, I intend to continue adding new material, mostly about people or films, and also keep us in synch with Wikipedia and the (still very small) Finnish Wikiquote. jni 10:12, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Support. Jni has been doing everything a non-sysop can do to help with recent vandalisms and other infrastructure issues. Wikiquote would greatly benefit from his sysop experience from other wikis. — Jeff Q (talk) 10:23, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Support. He is already doing a lot of good behind the scences work around here. Rmhermen 14:21, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Support. Jni's work is impressive, and I recognize the immediate need for new sysops, with the growing activity (and vandalism) that we are experiencing. ~ Kalki 16:12, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Support. Jni cleaned up after me by adding my newly created page (Richard Halliburton) to List of people by name. Wikiquote needs such people to help get the ball really rolling. -- Tetraminoe 06:53, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Jni is now a sysop. ~ Kalki 01:28, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
As I had hinted earlier (in a VP discussion, I believe), I would like to nominate MosheZadka for sysop. He has been editing here not quite three months, but he's made over 1300 edits, worked on a growing variety of articles, added quite a few himself, participated in some ugly anti-vandalism efforts, and been a regular VfD contributor. Furthermore, he and I have had some significant disagreements on some issues, which I perversely enjoy because it keeps me on my toes. I think he would make a useful and energetic addition to the sysop team. — Jeff Q (talk) 5 July 2005 04:28 (UTC)
- I hereby accept your nomination. ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 5 July 2005 04:41 (UTC)
- Support, of course, as I nominated him. (Sorry 'bout any confusion by my omission.) — Jeff Q (talk) 5 July 2005 07:26 (UTC)
- Support Though his and my preferences are different, he is now a integrited part of our community, very industrious. And I appreciate his efforts to organize TV shows quotes. His concerns to build the community, for example, organizing QoTD vote or his latest proposal of Featured Article (see WQ:VP) are very suggestive and helpful. --Aphaia 5 July 2005 04:33 (UTC)
- Support - many of his preferences seem to differ from mine as well, but this is a good thing. Diversity is definitely welcome in collecting the wit, wisdom, and weirdness of the world that is exhibited in quotations. ~ Kalki 5 July 2005 04:39 (UTC)
- Support - he does more administrative work than anyone else. Sams 5 July 2005 05:13 (UTC)
- Support. Agree with other's opinions above. jni 17:45, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
MosheZadka is now a sysop. ~ Kalki 06:02, 12 July 2005 (UTC)
I am nominating UDScott to be an admin. He has done much excellent work here over the past few months and has shown great interest and involvement in developing the project's film and TV pages, among others. I have asked if he was interested and he responded that he would be. Further comments and voting on the matter is invited. ~ Kalki 15:50, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- I accept this nomination and look forward to contributing even more to Wikiquote. Thanks! UDScott 16:09, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Support has contributed wonderful pages, works great with others ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 16:36, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Support Good nomination. Such a tireless editor will be a good asset of Wikiquote. --Aphaia 17:03, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Support, with reservations. UDScott is undeniably a conscientious editor, and has contributed excellent material to Wikiquote. My concern is that such an editor has no need of admin capabilities unless they participate in maintenance activity that is enhanced by sysop rights (e.g., vandal reversion, VfD participation), which UDScott has not done in any substantial way to date. However, two points reduce the import of my concern. First is the Wikipedia principle that adminship is "no big deal"; i.e., is mainly based on solid, sustained contributions (by which UDScott definitely qualifies), and is not directly predicated on maintenance work. The latter is traditionally expected even on WP, but it's become a near-requirement here only because we're so short on editors willing to do maintenance. Second, I'm hardly in a position to raise objections to lack of maintenance activity, as I've become practically useless on that point myself. (If I don't recover from my current spate of uselessness soon, I might even request de-adminship.) Ultimately, I support UDScott because I think he (?) will continue to do good work here, and is certainly doing much more of it than I am now. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 01:42, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- Comment: Good point. Also I am much happier if I see UDScott more involved into maintenance work like voting on WQ:VFD. There are now some controversial arguments which welcome voters as many as possible. --Aphaia 21:31, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
- Comment: I know you weren't necessarily looking for a dialogue here, but I wanted to say that the point is taken. I had previously been spending most of my time adding pages and tweaking my favorites. My forays into the other "sysop" activities you mention have been few and far between mainly because I wasn't quite sure if it was my place. I've obviously since learned differently, and I've been more watchful of vandals lately -- although truthfully, again watching pages of interest to me more than others. I will join in such activities more now. Truth be told, I'm happy plugging away as I have been, since there is still so much more material that I would like to add, but if you choose to have me join the ranks, I will certainly contribute more in these other areas. I would consider it my duty to the rest of the community.UDScott 21:29, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
