Categories
[edit]Thank you for your many contributions, but I question many of the very specific categories you have added along with those pages. In general, new categories that do not have more than a single page in them are really not needed. And we try to keep the categories less specific than many you have created. I haven't had a chance to review all of the new ones you made, but I suspect that many of them are not needed. ~ UDScott (talk) 21:46, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- @UDScott: It appears that the owner of this page has not contributed here since the end of 2023. However, between December 11 and December 18 they created 48 enwq-categories, most if not all, with only one item in them.
- Do you believe that these categories are unnecessary? If the answer is yes, do you have any suggestion what to do about it? are there other such categories created by other enwq-contributors? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:53, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

- Hi Tesleemah,
- I did not see any contributions from you this year, so thought you have given up on us, so it is nice to see you here. I was sharing UDScott's concern about the unnecessary categories that were left behind.
- To Explain: I am one of the few wikiquotians who pays a lot of attention to Categories. I have contributed over 17,000 edits in the category namespace to various wikimedia projects since I joined wikipedia in 2007. Having a good category system is crucial for maintaining an orderly wikii in my opinion. Anyway, back to the topic: The almost 50 categories which you have created last year.
- I believe we should remove all categories with only one item, and I was wondering what would be the most effective way of doing this. Since UDScott, who is an administrator here, has not opined, I assume they are very busy at the moment, and was hoping to help them by emptying the content of those categories so that they can easily can deleted.

- Great! Here is one example: Category:Nigerian real estate businesspeople. When I click the View history of this page I can see who created the page and who added more edits after the page creation. In this case I see that user:MathXplore added two parent categories. I hope MathXplore will have time to join this discussion since I see that they edit many Categories in enwq. - Hello, I don't think there is a need to rush the deletion of the categories, but if the community thinks they are not needed, then I think they can be deleted by WQ:VFD. MathXplore (talk) 13:19, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

- I believe there is no use in categories with one item. However, I also think that the category itself will not cause harm and it may be OK to wait for the author to populate it. MathXplore (talk) 15:10, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I am adding the new categories as I find them relevant and specific to the topic, also most of them have more than one entity.
