Block
[edit]Hi, just wanted to ask for your rationale in indefinitely blocking User:~2026-77860-7 for vandalism. I admit that this user was a bit of a nuisance but seemed more like one with a misunderstanding on how the WQ site works (especially compared to WP). There were no warnings given regarding what you perceived to be vandalism before the indefinite block was applied. I would have expected perhaps a bit of dialogue first (or even a shorter block first to make the point). In the end, I'm not completely against the block, as they might not have gotten the point - I just might have proceeded a bit more slowly. ~ UDScott (talk) 15:56, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- This user had previously been blocked for similar disruptive behavior and continued making the same types of edits after the block expired, without showing improvement. Given the repeated nature of the issue and the lack of adherence to site standards, I determined that an indefinite block was appropriate to prevent further disruption.
- That said, the block is not intended to be punitive. If the user submits an unblock request and demonstrates an understanding of the concerns and a willingness to follow the guidelines, I would be open to reviewing and reconsidering the block. Saroj (talk) 16:05, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- Got it - sorry I didn't realize there was already a history with this user. I had just seen this most recent activity. Thanks. ~ UDScott (talk) 17:50, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

VFDcloser displaying buttons even if a VFD debate is closed with a different archive top template
[edit]Hi. Can you modify VFDcloser to not display buttons after using a different closure template, such as {{Archive top}}? I recently closed a somewhat controversial VFD discussion about a category, in which I provided a comment about the rationale, instead of just starting with The result was:. Thanks. - Hi Codename Noreste, I have updated the script to check for the Category:VfD archive entries category to skip archived pages. Also, archived discussions should not be on Wikiquote:Votes for deletion as the category is transcluded along with the discussion. Saroj (talk) 08:53, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah... I did not have enough time to archive that discussion. My apologies. Codename Noreste (talk • contribs) 10:27, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election
[edit]Greetings,
The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.
This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.
The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.

[edit]Hi Saroj. Just wanted to ask your opinion, as someone working in this area: it seems to me that we have some categories that could be collected under a larger category (Tik Tokers, Youtubers, and Twitch streamers - and maybe there are other similar ones that could be created) - but I'm not sure what is the best fit for that category. Possibilities include Internet personalities (but TikTok doesn't really fit) or maybe social media personalities (but I'm not sure about YouTube or Twitch as truly being social media)? Just wondered if a) you agree we should gather these into one category, and b) if so, your opinion on what that category should be. Thanks. ~ UDScott (talk) 15:28, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, I think it makes sense to group them together under a broader category. "Social media influencers" could work well for TikTokers and YouTubers. For Twitch streamers, "Internet personalities" might be a better fit since it feels broader. Also, based on Commons and Wikipedia usage, "Social media influencers" generally falls under the wider category of "Internet personalities." Saroj (talk) 15:56, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Also, YouTubers and Twitch streamers were already included in the "Internet personalities" category. I have now added TikTokers as well, which I think is also appropriate. Saroj (talk) 16:08, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Great! I like your thinking - you did a better job than I was able to in trying to find the right fit (I just knew there were some commonalities among these different groups). Thanks. ~ UDScott (talk) 17:53, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
